Chapter 7: Chapter 7

Pill King Raiden Veil had been born into a declining alchemy family a thousand years ago. He came into the world with a deficiency in blood qi, weak in constitution and forever falling ill.

A great figure of the alchemy world had once asserted that he carried the countenance of premature death and would not live past the age of three.

Yet Raiden Veil was deeply favored by the heavens, and against all odds he grew safely all the way to the age of eighteen.

When he turned eighteen, the Fifth Heaven and Earth Upheaval descended upon the world.

The common people were thrown into misery, the land was scorched for thousands of miles, blood flowed in rivers, and white bones piled up in heaps. Raiden Veil could not bear to watch the human world fall into such a tragic state, and he resolved to save it through the Dao of Alchemy.

However, although Raiden’s comprehension was extraordinary and his talent for alchemy was absolutely peerless, his innate physical frailty had doomed him to never reach true greatness along the path of alchemy.

And indeed, that turned out to be the case.

For the first thirty years of his life, no matter how deeply Raiden immersed himself in alchemy and pharmacology, he knew absolutely nothing about cultivation methods. He could not condense an Innate Flame, and so he was fundamentally unable to refine pills.

Perhaps the heavens themselves could not bear to watch, or perhaps the Heavenly Dao simply chose to favor him, bestowing upon him a fortuitous encounter that turned Raiden’s life upside down. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

During a trip out to gather herbs, Raiden stumbled by chance into an uncharted secret realm.

No one ever knew what Raiden Veil truly experienced within that place.

All they knew was that a full hundred years later, when Raiden finally stepped out of the secret realm, not only had his blood qi become vigorous and full, he had also obtained miraculous, almost god-like alchemy skills.

Growing flesh upon white bones, raising the dead, with skills like these in his hands, it no longer mattered whether one was a mortal commoner or a Mortal Supreme standing at the very pinnacle of the human world.

No matter how heavily wounded you were, so long as a single breath remained inside you, with just one pill, Raiden Veil could pull you back from the brink of death.

Later on, relying upon this unfathomable alchemy skill, he helped the first Emperor of Silver Willow, Solaris, establish the dynasty and bring an end to the Fifth Heaven and Earth Upheaval.

Unfortunately, because he tried to defy the heavens themselves and rewrite fate in order to extend Emperor Solaris’s life by another five hundred years, he ultimately suffered a heavenly backlash and died young.

In the end, he was unable even to pass down the Pill King’s Precious Mirror to any future generations.

[You have observed Raiden Veil’s life. You were very earnest. God-Tier Comprehension has been activated.]

[Your Comprehension is God-Tier. You have comprehended the Pill King’s Precious Mirror.]

...

Adam closed his eyes and quietly took in the various changes the system had brought.

What unfolded inside his mind was the strange chain of encounters Raiden Veil had once gone through within the nameless secret realm.

After mistakenly wandering into the secret realm, Raiden Veil had been like a headless fly, searching every direction for some way back out. Stumbling along, he eventually came across two elders, one dressed in black and the other in white, both of them with crane-white hair and youthful faces, refining pills together inside a thatched hut.

Raiden had already been deeply obsessed with alchemy by that point, so he could not help but step forward to observe.

Once the pills had been finished, the two elders each handed their freshly refined pill over to Raiden Veil to taste, and asked him to judge which of the two was superior.

After swallowing the pills, Raiden suddenly felt a sharp, piercing pain in his heart, and shortly afterward collapsed into a coma.

When he came to once more, the two elders and the thatched hut they had been working in had long since vanished without a trace. And yet, in Raiden’s hands, a copy of the Pill King’s Precious Mirror had appeared at some unknown point.

On top of that, his comprehension and attainments along the Dao of Alchemy had been pushed to an unfathomable level.

[You immersed yourself within it and have completely comprehended all the profound mysteries of the Pill King’s Precious Mirror.]

The quiet notification sound from the system pulled Adam straight out of his glimpse into Raiden’s encounter.

To actually master alchemy skills as easily as this!

When he awoke from the trance, Adam could sense that he had completely mastered the Pill King’s Precious Mirror, and the joy in his eyes could no longer be hidden away.

In the ancient country of Silver Willow, although martial arts were what everyone revered, a powerful alchemist would always be treated as an honored guest by even the mightiest of cultivators.

This was because the pills refined by powerful alchemists were capable of regrowing limbs and raising the dead.

Who in this world dared claim that they were undefeated?

Who under the heavens dared call themselves invincible?

Even the Mortal Supremes, in the end, would have to face that final moment when their bodies perished and their Dao vanished.

But holding a powerful alchemist’s pill in your hand was no different from carrying a spare life around with you.

In a life-and-death battle, that single pill could often play a pivotal role in turning the tide entirely.

However, ever since the Fifth Heaven and Earth Upheaval had completely dissipated, the spiritual energy of the world had grown thinner and thinner, and many heavenly treasures had gradually faded from the world.
