Chapter 6: Chapter 6
Oswin did not answer Adam’s question directly. Instead, he turned it back on him with a question of his own.
"Brother Adam, aren’t you curious as to why such a massive Spirit Vein, packed full of Spirit Stones, would suddenly surface right inside the South-Subduing King’s jurisdiction?"
"You have to remember, this is the Dharma-Ending Age we’re living in. The world simply shouldn’t be capable of birthing a Spirit Vein of such an enormous scale anymore."
"A few days ago, the dynasty Preceptor glimpsed a trace of heavenly secrets and declared that the Sixth Heaven and Earth Upheaval was drawing near. But after this whole incident with the South-Subduing King, I’d dare say with full certainty that the Sixth Heaven and Earth Upheaval has already descended upon us."
"It just hasn’t shown its face in any glaringly obvious way yet."
"Within a few short months, all manner of heaven and earth anomalies, Spirit Springs, and Spirit Lakes will be appearing all over Silver Willow."
"And if the Heaven and Earth Upheaval pushes into a deeper stage after that, even legendary Immortal Palace Ruins might begin showing up in the mortal realm."
"The Silver Willow Imperial Family grows weaker with every passing day. To rein in a Silver Willow as turbulent as this one is becoming, they simply don’t have the strength to back the will. Right now, only the South-Subduing King has stirred up rebellious intentions."
"But once the Heaven and Earth Upheaval evolves to a certain point, the power of the other Kings will swell massively too. How could any of them possibly tolerate the Silver Willow Imperial Family after that?"
This...
Hearing Oswin’s analysis laid out in full, Adam couldn’t help but fall silent.
When he had first walked in and caught wind of the shocking news about the South-Subduing King’s rebellion, he had been so startled that he hadn’t really stopped to think things through.
Now, turning Oswin’s words over in his head again, he realized that the sudden appearance of this Spirit Vein really was far too bizarre.
Could it really be true, that the Sixth Heaven and Earth Upheaval had already arrived, exactly as Oswin had warned a few days back?
Adam’s heart sank. Today’s events were truly unexpected.
He had thought, originally, that there was still a fair stretch of time before the Sixth Heaven and Earth Upheaval would occur. He hadn’t expected the signs of it to already be surfacing right now.
Adam understood clearly that the sudden emergence of a Spirit Vein within the South-Subduing King’s territory was an obvious omen.
This was still only the initial stage of things, and yet the opportunities being born from it were already pushing Silver Willow toward the faint beginnings of internal strife.
Once the great upheaval of heaven and earth reached a certain depth, all sorts of rare heavenly treasures would start appearing.
By that time, the various major factions would no doubt break out into massive brawls, scrambling tooth and nail over every single one of those fortuitous opportunities.
The whole of Silver Willow would instantly turn into a living purgatory, without even a sliver of peace left in it.
No, I have to properly raise my strength. Otherwise, when this Heaven and Earth Upheaval truly hits, I won’t have any ability to protect myself whatsoever.
His cultivation at the Innate Realm was still a little too weak.
To live through the great chaos that was bearing down on them, he needed to reach at least the Grandmaster Realm.
Of course, the Great Grandmaster Realm would be even better. If he could push himself all the way to becoming a Mortal Supreme, he could walk in and out of a three hundred thousand strong army as freely as if he were strolling through his own back garden.
With the system standing behind him, Adam was confident he would eventually become a Mortal Supreme, or perhaps even a Heaven and Earth Deity, but all of that required time.
Three months. In three months at the most, the South-Subduing King’s three hundred thousand strong army would finish refining that Spirit Vein.
The moment they did, they would surely march their forces straight toward the capital.
The time left for Adam, then, was only three months.
To become a Mortal Supreme within three short months, even with the system’s help, Adam felt it was nothing more than a fool’s dream.
Forget Mortal Supreme, Adam wasn’t even fully confident he could reach the Grandmaster Realm in those three months.
The Innate Realm was different from the Qi Condensation Realm.
Adam had God-Tier Comprehension, so his speed in refining spiritual energy was already extremely fast. However, when it came to cultivation in the Innate Realm, the effect of God-Tier Comprehension wasn’t nearly as pronounced.
The Innate Realm required tempering an Innate Physique and forging an Innate Body. What it strengthened was raw physical power.
In this realm, one had to temper their physical strength step by patient step. Taking shortcuts was very difficult.
...
After learning the news of the South-Subduing King’s impending rebellion, Adam had suffered a heavy blow and was in no mood to keep chatting with Oswin.
Right now, all he wanted was to quickly get back to compiling books, hoping that he might once again understand something useful from them and push his strength forward.
Walking back to his desk, Adam reached out and pulled a book from the mountain-like pile in front of him and began to read.
The contents recorded in the book described the growth history of a generation’s Pill King.
