Chapter 8: Chapter 8
Without heaven and Earth treasures and peerless rarities to work with, no matter how powerful an alchemist’s skills were, it became extremely difficult to refine pills with any real medicinal potency.
Gradually, the path of the alchemist fell into decline. Especially now, in the depths of the Dharma-Ending Age, the status of an alchemist was no different from that of an ordinary pharmacist on the street.
But things were different now. The first signs of the Sixth Heaven and Earth Upheaval had already begun to surface.
In the not-too-distant future, heaven and Earth treasures and peerless rarities would surely emerge once again across Silver Willow.
When that day came, the path of the alchemist would flourish all over again.
Raiden Veil had been the most powerful alchemist Silver Willow had seen across the past thousand years.
Now that Adam had completely mastered the Pill King’s Precious Mirror, he felt a great deal more confident about the road ahead.
Even if the Sixth Heaven and Earth Upheaval truly descended right this very moment, Adam wouldn’t feel the slightest hint of panic. With alchemy skills like these at his disposal, he could refine countless pills to push his strength upward at a rapid pace.
Although the world was still trapped in the Dharma-Ending Age, this kind of alchemy skill was without a doubt a long-awaited rain after drought! It could relieve a great deal of the pressure currently weighing down on Adam.
The Innate Realm itself was divided into three distinct steps.
Body Tempering Marrow Washing Forging an Innate Body
With these alchemy skills now in his grasp, Adam could brew certain medicinal liquids to help himself blow straight past the first and second steps, and then go on to forge an Innate Body at an astonishing pace.
Practicing medicine to save the world, possessing great virtue and righteousness, admired by all generations, a paragon for posterity.
After writing down those words, Adam glanced once at the sky outside and prepared to take his leave.
The day was still early, and he needed to head over to the Myriad Treasures Pavilion to buy a batch of medicinal herbs so he could concoct the Foundation Establishment Liquid and rapidly improve his physical body.
Vermillion Bird Street, Veil Manor.
"Grandfather, grandfather, I’ve successfully refined the Foundation Establishment Liquid!"
Clutching a small porcelain bottle in her hands, a young girl came rushing hurriedly into the main hall, her voice brimming over with pure joy.
The young girl had skin as fair as jade and a stunningly beautiful face. Her waist was slender like a swaying willow branch, and a cascade of black hair tumbled down her back like a waterfall, reaching all the way to her waist. Her eyes, in particular, were clear and full of life.
"Impudent! How can a girl be so impetuous as this? How can you throw away your manners like this in front of so many honored elders!"
"And besides that, stop pouring all your time into the Dao of Alchemy. Alchemy has already fallen into decline. You should spend less of your energy on such unorthodox paths."
Reprimanded sharply by her father, Rael Veil, Maren Veil cast a quick glance around the hall filled with elders, stuck out her tongue in mild defiance, and stepped quietly off to the side.
"Rael, do not speak such nonsense. How can the Dao of Alchemy possibly be called an unorthodox path? Our own ancestor Raiden Veil was the most outstanding Alchemy Grandmaster Silver Willow has seen in the past thousand years."
"By speaking like that, are you not showing grave disrespect to our own ancestor?"
Seated at the very head of the assembled gathering, the Patriarch of the Veil Family, Caden Veil, knit his brows together tightly, a clear look of displeasure spreading across his face.
"Father, your son truly meant no disrespect toward our ancestor with those words."
Seeing the displeasure plain on Caden’s face, Rael hurried to explain himself. "Now is the Dharma-Ending Age, and the path of the alchemist has declined to its absolute lowest point."
"Even if one possesses powerful alchemy skills, without spirit herbs and immortal materials at hand, it is simply impossible to refine truly powerful pills."
"Maren’s cultivation aptitude is more than enough to place her in the top three among the entire younger generation of our Veil Manor. If she had only put her heart fully into cultivation, how could she still be stuck at the Innate Realm by now!"
Rael had been quietly displeased with his precious daughter’s obsession with alchemy for a long time. But since Maren had Caden firmly backing her, there was nothing he could do about it.
"Enough of this. Our Veil family was, after all, once known as the number one alchemy family. It is only that the times forced our hand, and we had no choice but to abandon alchemy for the path of martial arts."
"But the foundation laid down by our ancestors cannot simply be cast aside. Since Maren is devoted to alchemy, then let her study it. If she can rise to the level of a fourth-grade alchemist, it would also be of immense help to our Veil Manor."
Three hundred years ago, for the sake of the family’s survival and development, the ninth-generation Patriarch of the Veil family had decided that the entire clan would abandon alchemy altogether and step onto the path of martial arts.
And yet, Caden still felt a faint trace of unwillingness lingering in his heart. He often quietly fantasized about restoring the Veil Manor to its former glory as the number one alchemy family, and he had pinned all of these hopes squarely upon Maren.
"Come, Maren, bring your Foundation Establishment Liquid over here and let Grandfather take a good look at it."
"Yes, Grandfather."
Her face full of bright smiles, Maren ran straight up to Caden and gently placed the porcelain bottle containing the Foundation Establishment Liquid into his hands.
