Chapter 34: Waking Up
Xingluo stirred slightly before opening her eyes, but the first thing she saw was a huge hairy spider standing beside her.
For one moment, her mind went blank, then a horrified scream escaped her throat as she hurriedly scurried backward.
Before she could crawl any farther, Shen Wuxia floated in front of her and blocked her sight. "Calm down. It is already dead."
Xingluo froze for a second, then forced herself to look properly and saw that the spider’s body was made from dark soul power.
It was the same spider they had killed earlier, but now it stood quietly as a Soul Soldier without any sign of attacking her.
Seeing this, Xingluo’s face twisted at once. "Damn it. Did you want to kill me?"
Wuxia sighed. "Sadly, no."
Xingluo stared at him. "Sadly?"
He gave a faint laugh and shook his head. "Joking. You were poisoned."
Hearing that, Xingluo’s anger weakened slightly, and confusion appeared on her face. "How?"
"When we burned those spiders, the poison in their bodies mixed with the smoke," Wuxia said. "You inhaled too much and fainted after the fight."
Xingluo looked toward the burnt clearing and remembered the thick smell from before, then her gaze slowly returned to the spider.
Wuxia followed her gaze and continued, "The spider was using its talent on you, a bit unpleasant, but useful."
Xingluo took a deep breath and forced herself not to look at the hairy legs again. "Then what about you?"
Wuxia only stared at her.
After a moment, Xingluo answered herself. "Right, you are already dead what worse could happen?"
Wuxia’s mouth twitched slightly. "Many things, but poisonous smoke is not one of them."
Xingluo coughed once and looked away, then slowly pushed herself up while checking her body, her head still felt heavy, but the nausea had faded, and most of the weakness in her limbs was already gone.
Seeing that she could stand properly, Wuxia turned toward the deeper fog beyond the clearing. "It is time for the final hunt."
Xingluo picked up her sword and stretched her stiff shoulders. "How long was I unconscious?"
"Not too long," Wuxia replied. "A few hours."
Xingluo opened the map and looked at the blurred path ahead, then narrowed her eyes slightly. "We should be close now."
Wuxia nodded. "The lake should be ahead. Get on the Panther."
The Panther lowered its body beside her and Xingluo climbed onto its back after giving the spider one last stiff glance.
Wuxia understood her look and stored the spider into the mark on her forehead without saying anything.
Only after that did Xingluo relax a little, holding onto the Panther as it stepped back into the fog.
They travelled through the forest again, but this time the fog kept growing thicker with every few minutes.
The glowing plants gradually became fewer, and the trees around them turned darker and more twisted, no beasts rushed out to attack them anymore, which only made the silence feel heavier.
After moving for a while, the forest ahead suddenly began to thin, and the ground changed from damp soil to smooth dark stone and a few steps later, the last line of trees finally faded behind them.
Xingluo raised her head from the Panther’s back and saw a vast clearing stretching ahead, at the center of it lay a massive lake, silent and dark beneath the black moon.
Xingluo and Shen Wuxia looked at the lake properly, and only then did they notice how clear the water was.
Deep below the surface, dark lines covered the lakebed, crossing each other in a huge array that spread all the way toward the center.
At the middle of the lake stood a small stone platform, and on that platform was a massive throne.
A figure in black armor sat on it silently, its head lowered, both hands resting on the arms of the throne.
The armor looked heavy and old, but there was no rust on it, only dark marks running across the surface like dried blood.
Xingluo’s grip tightened around the Panther, while Shen Wuxia stared at the figure without blinking.
Even before it moved, the pressure around the lake had already changed, the Panther gave a low growl as its body lowered slightly beneath Xingluo.
Just then, the calm sky above the lake suddenly twisted and a black lightning fell from the darkness and struck the platform with a deafening crack.
The whole clearing trembled, and waves rose across the lake as the array beneath the water began to glow.
Xingluo’s face changed, and even Shen Wuxia’s expression darkened, the figure on the throne still had not moved, but the black lightning continued crawling across its armor.
Then a cold voice rang inside their minds.
[The Avatar of Rahk has awakened.]
The moment the words ended, the figure slowly raised its head and two red eyes lit up beneath the helmet and locked directly onto Xingluo.
The armored figure placed one hand on the side of the throne and slowly stood up, the moment its foot stepped onto the platform, the lake trembled again.
Water split on both sides of the platform, and two massive snakes rose from beneath the surface.
Their black-scaled bodies coiled upward, water pouring down from them as their eyes opened beside the armored figure.
Xingluo forced herself to scan the two massive snakes, and the panel appeared in front of them a moment later.
[Twin Demon Dragons]
[Race: Flood Dragons]
[Level: 99]
[Bloodline: King]
The moment they saw the panel, both Xingluo and Shen Wuxia froze, two Level 99 King Bloodline monsters were already enough to crush most teams that entered this dungeon.
But before either of them could fully react, another panel appeared above the armored figure.
[Avatar of Rahk]
[Level: 99]
[Bloodline: Emperor — Sealed]
This time, even Wuxia’s thoughts stopped for a second, his gaze locked onto the word Emperor and only one thought rushed through his mind.
No. No, no, no... Should I really not have brought her outside? Damn it.
Even when he had still been alive and at Level 93, killing a Lord Bloodline second-transition beast had already pushed him close to the edge.
And this thing in front of them was Level 99 with emperor Bloodline, even if it was sealed, it could crush totally crush most newbie second transition beasts and people.
For the first time since entering the dungeon, Shen Wuxia’s calm expression almost cracked.
The snakes coiled beside the platform, the lake kept trembling beneath the glowing array, and the armored figure simply stood there without rushing.
Just as Wuxia’s thoughts began turning darker, Xingluo’s voice came from beside him. "Let’s take it to the end."
Wuxia turned toward her, Xingluo’s face was pale, and her fingers were gripping the sword so tightly that her knuckles had turned white, she was clearly afraid.
There was no hiding it but even with that fear, she was still sitting on the Panther’s back, staring straight at the boss without lowering her sword.
Seeing that, Wuxia felt a faint shame rise inside him, he had been the one pushing her forward from the beginning, yet at this moment, she was the first to speak.
After a breath, his expression steadied again. "Yeah," he said quietly. "We will."
The mark on Xingluo’s forehead began to glow as dark streams rushed out one after another.
The Panther lowered its body beneath her, while the spider, bear, bull, wolves, and the rest of the Soul Soldiers formed around them.
In front of the lake, facing two flood dragons and the Avatar of Rahk, Shen Wuxia finally brought out his army.
