Chapter 35: Avatar of Rahk

The Avatar extended one hand, and a black spear rose from the lake before flying into his grip.

Black lightning immediately covered the weapon, and the pressure released from it forced the weaker Soul Soldiers to lower their bodies.

Wuxia pushed his soul force through the army, stabilizing their forms before the Avatar raised the spear and struck its base against the platform.

The array beneath the lake flashed, and hundreds of black lightning bolts fell toward the shore, platform, and every Soul Soldier around them. "Spread out!"

The army separated under Wuxia’s control, their dark bodies stretching and breaking apart to avoid direct strikes before gathering back into shape.

Even then, several weaker soldiers were caught completely and dispersed into loose soul power, while the ground beneath them was blasted open.

The Panther carried Xingluo through the falling lightning, its body repeatedly turning into a thin red-black streak whenever a bolt reached them.

The bear and bull rushed through the centre, allowing parts of their bodies to scatter under the lightning before rebuilding them with soul power as they continued forward.

The two Flood Dragons moved at once, one sweeping its tail through the army while the other released a torrent of dark water across the lake.

Wuxia flattened several wolves into dark shadows beneath the tail, letting the attack pass over them before they rose and continued toward the dragons.

The torrent was harder to avoid, tearing through the bear’s upper body and pushing its remaining form back across the shore.

Wuxia immediately pulled soul power from several weaker soldiers and forced the bear’s missing half to rebuild, though the burden made his own form flicker.

At the same time, the Panther used Shadow Step and appeared on the platform with Xingluo already jumping from its back.

She rushed toward the Avatar and swung her sword at the opening beneath his helmet, but the black spear moved before she reached him.

The shaft struck her blade from the side, and the force threw her across the platform while the spearhead turned toward her chest without stopping.

The bear rose between them as a wall of dark soul power, widening its body to catch the strike instead of trying to block it with flesh.

The spear pierced through its center, scattering most of the bear’s form, but the resistance gave Wuxia enough time to drag Xingluo away with Soul Thread.

The Panther attacked from behind while the bull charged from the front, yet the Avatar only shifted one step and avoided both attacks.

His spear swept across the Panther, but its body split around the blade before reconnecting behind him and striking toward his neck again.

For the first time, the Avatar tilted his head slightly, then caught the Panther by its throat and smashed it into the platform.

Its body scattered across the stone, but the soul power immediately began gathering again as Xingluo attacked from his side.

Her sword struck his shoulder plate and left a shallow mark, but the Avatar turned and drove the back of his hand into her chest.

Xingluo flew from the platform and crashed into the lake, the impact forcing the air from her lungs as one of the dragons rushed toward her.

Its jaws opened above the water, and she barely saw the rows of teeth before the Panther reformed beside her and pulled her away through Shadow Step.

The jaws closed behind them, crushing the water hard enough to throw both of them toward the shore.

Xingluo rolled across the ground and forced herself upright, but the second dragon had already released another torrent toward her position.

The spider spread its body between them, turning its abdomen and legs into several layers of dense soul web instead of taking the attack directly.

The water tore through layer after layer, and Wuxia kept rebuilding the defence while dragging Xingluo away from behind it.

The final layer broke just as she escaped, leaving the spider’s form scattered across the shore and Wuxia’s soul trembling from the cost.

Xingluo had nearly died twice, yet the Avatar had not followed either attack.

He remained on the platform, holding the spear in one hand as he watched the army struggle against the dragons.

Wuxia forced the remaining soldiers forward, using the wolves as shifting restraints around one dragon while the bear and bull attacked the other from opposite sides.

The wolves stretched their bodies into dark ropes around the dragon’s limbs, scattering whenever it struck before connecting again from another direction.

The bear caught its neck with both paws while the bull drove its horns into the scales beneath its body, forcing the dragon down toward the lake.

Xingluo rushed across the bear’s back and stabbed into the gap opened by the bull, but the dragon twisted before the blade could sink deeply.

Its tail struck her side and threw her away, though the Panther caught her before she hit the broken ground.

The Avatar finally stepped down from the platform.

His boot touched the lake, and the array beneath the water rose to support him as he walked toward the battle without sinking.

The spear returned to his shoulder, and black lightning gathered along its edge while both dragons pulled back beside him.

Behind Xingluo, the forest had been torn apart, the shore was filled with craters, and half the lakebed had been exposed by the attacks.

Wuxia’s army still surrounded them, but many soldiers were barely holding their forms, while the Panther stood at the front with its body flickering from repeated regeneration.

Xingluo wiped the blood from her mouth and raised her sword again as the Avatar stopped in the middle of the lake.

The red light beneath his helmet moved across the army before settling on her, and the black lightning around his spear became denser.

Seeing the fight deteriorating, Xingluo tightened her grip around the sword and looked toward Wuxia. "Do you have any idea what we can do, or are we really fucked?"

Wuxia did not answer immediately, his gaze moving between the untouched Avatar, the two injured dragons, and the Soul Soldiers struggling to maintain their forms.

He opened the Authority Panel, searching for anything useful, but his eyes suddenly stopped on the Soul Power count.

[Soul Power: 8,200/10,000]

Wuxia stared at the number for a moment before looking toward the two Flood Dragons.

The Broodmother had given him five hundred Soul Power, while the Panther had given the same amount along with the reward for forming his first Mid-Tier soldier.

These dragons were Level 99 monsters with King Bloodlines, only slightly beneath the main boss.

If he could extract both of them, the gained Soul Power might be enough to raise his Authority Level.

He had no idea what the upgrade would give him, but their current strength was nowhere near enough to defeat the Avatar.

It was a gamble, but continuing the fight normally would only end with Xingluo dying.

Wuxia took one breath before his eyes hardened. "We kill the dragons first."

Xingluo looked toward the two monsters. "How?"

Instead of answering, Wuxia opened every remaining connection inside the soul mark.

The wolves, bulls, bears, apes, and other Soul Soldiers stopped fighting at the same moment, their bodies turning unstable as dark cracks spread through their forms.

Even the dragons paused when the restraints around them suddenly loosened.

The next instant, every expendable Soul Soldier collapsed into streams of dark power and rushed toward the Panther.

Its body began expanding as the sacrificed soul force poured into it, making its red form turn darker with every passing breath.

The blue patterns across its body gathered around its forehead, forming a burning mark as its claws sank into the array beneath the lake.

A roar escaped its throat, and for the first time since the battle began, both Flood Dragons lowered their heads and moved back.

Even the Avatar stopped walking.

The Panther’s body became completely black, while blue soul flames covered its head, spine, and paws.

Wuxia felt the connection pulling heavily against his mind, but he forced every remaining trace of sacrificed power into it.

"Hold him back," he ordered.

The Panther disappeared.

It reappeared directly in front of the Avatar and struck with both claws, its semi-solid body becoming completely dense at the moment of impact.

The Avatar raised his spear to block, but the force pushed him back for the first time.

His boots slid across the glowing array, cutting two deep lines through the water before he stopped several meters away.

Black lightning burst from the spear, yet the Panther scattered its chest around the weapon and reformed against the Avatar’s side.

Its shoulder slammed into the black armor, forcing him another step back before the spear struck across its neck and tore most of its head apart.

The Panther’s body twisted into loose soul power rather than falling, gathering behind the Avatar as the blue mark rebuilt its head.

Wuxia turned away from the exchange and moved toward the injured dragon. "Xingluo, follow me."

She rushed after him without asking more, crossing the broken array while the second dragon roared and moved to protect its companion.

The wounded dragon lowered its head and released a torrent of dark water, but Xingluo jumped aside as Wuxia pulled her several feet with soul force.

The attack tore through the lake behind her, while she landed against the dragon’s neck and drove her sword into the wound opened earlier.

Its scales cracked further under the Platinum-grade blade, but the dragon twisted violently and forced her to release the hilt before its claws reached her.

Xingluo ran across its back as it rolled through the water, avoiding one claw before jumping above its head.

The dragon raised its jaws toward her, but Wuxia had already opened the mark on her forehead.

He snapped his fingers and a large mass of dark soul power poured out beneath Xingluo, spreading above the dragon’s head before taking the shape of the Broodmother.

The dragon’s eyes widened, but the spider had already condensed both front legs into sharp pincers.

They drove into the wound Xingluo had opened, piercing the broken scales and entering the dragon’s skull.

The dragon released a violent roar and shook its head, smashing the spider against the lake several times, but the Broodmother changed its body with each impact.

Its abdomen scattered into dark mist while the legs remained solid, keeping the pincers buried inside the dragon’s head.

The second dragon rushed toward them, opening its jaws to tear the spider away.

Wuxia closed his hand and the Broodmother’s entire form contracted around the pincers before exploding inside the wound.

Dark soul power burst through the dragon’s skull as poison spread through its head and neck.

Half its face collapsed, and one eye burst apart as it began sweeping its body blindly across the lake.

The surviving dragon was forced back by the uncontrolled strikes, while Xingluo landed near the shore and watched the wounded monster struggle.

Its roars became weaker, its movements lost strength, and after several more steps, its massive body finally collapsed.

The impact sent a wave across the lake and shattered another section of the glowing array beneath it.

The other Flood Dragon stared at its fallen twin for one breath before releasing a furious roar that shook the clearing.

It ignored the Panther and the Avatar completely, rushing straight toward Xingluo as dark water gathered around its body.

Xingluo raised her sword, but the dragon twisted before reaching her and swept its tail across the lake.

The strike caught her fully in the side.

Her armor cracked under the impact as her body was thrown across the entire lake, passing through the rising water before crashing into the broken shore.

Stone shattered beneath her back, and blood burst from her mouth as she fell into the crater without moving.
