Chapter 422: Cutting Through the Rain of Arrows.
The General wore a grim expression. He clenched his fist, gnashing his teeth continuously. The muscles beneath his crimson scales bulged.
The veins on his arms pulsed violently.
His eyes remained fixed on the chaotic battlefield without blinking. He wanted to rush and join the battle and unleash his rage, but something was stopping him.
His instinct.
For countless years, that instinct had saved him from death numerous times.
It had never betrayed him.
Since the battle began, he never detected the Necromancer behind the undead.
That alone made him wary.
A Necromancer commanding such a massive undead army should have appeared somewhere on the battlefield.
Yet...
No matter how he searched.
No matter how he spread his senses.
He found nothing.
With so much chaos going on, how could the Necromancer behind it not appear?
This made him a lot more cautious.
He refused to believe the enemy was simply hiding.
Another thing that terrified him deeply was the creature that hunted from the sky.
Their speed was frightening.
Since their archers prepared to hunt them, they had vanished as if they had never existed in the first place.
It was as though they had melted into the moonlight sky.
This further proved the Necromancer was monitoring the war, and yet he could not discover him.
That realization sent a chill through his heart.
Hmm?
Suddenly, he caught a change in the battle situation.
"What is going on?" he muttered, his face filled with confusion.
His sharp eyes swept across the battlefield once again. The battlefield had split into three areas.
Each area was surrounded by a dense population of the undead army while the Scorpion Soldiers were pinned to the center, struggling frantically.
The undead had unknowingly formed three massive encirclements. Each battalion was isolated from the others.
"How could this be?" His expression turned ugly.
The more he observed, the colder his heart became.
How could he not see what the enemy was trying to do?
If this continued, it was only a matter of time before all their men were ground into mincemeat.
The realization struck him like lightning.
While the General found out the dangerous situation, the three Commanders had already detected the situation.
Many times, they tried to break the encampment, but each time, hundreds of their men died within minutes.
If they broke out of their encampment, most of their men would be slaughtered by the terrifying undead army.
The little fighting chance they had was because of their presence, holding the fort.
For the first time in many years, the three Commanders found themselves trapped by an enemy’s strategy.
Understanding the predicament of his Commanders, the General did not hesitate to dispatch his men.
He could no longer watch the battle from the sideline. The battle had already reached a critical point.
A loud screech echoed across the battlefield as the General’s elite squad stepped forward.
Their Greater Dune Scorpions let out deep, soul piercing cries that momentarily drowned out the surrounding battle.
They were the General’s personal guards.
The strongest elites within the entire Scorpion Army. Their weapons gleamed beneath the three moons.
Each was brimming with an overwhelming killing aura.
Their mounts were more savage looking and brutal than those of the ordinary soldiers. Their thick crimson carapaces gleamed beneath the three bloody moons.
Their oversized pincers continuously clashed together, producing chilling metallic sounds.
Each beast exuded an overwhelming aura.
Watching the General’s elite squad coming forward, the three Commanders couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
Hope finally returned to their eyes.
If anyone could stabilize the collapsing battlefield...
It was this elite legion.
Even though they were killing enemies at an alarming speed, the recovery rate of the undead army was just shocking.
This was not a battle where they could individually change the course of the battle. They desperately needed another powerful force to shift the battlefield once again.
"Kill them all," the General commanded.
Howl!
All the General’s elite legion howled loudly, their weapons raised, urging their mounts to speed up. Their terrifying battle cries echoed throughout the battlefield.
Many Scorpion Soldiers instinctively looked toward them with admiration.
They had been itching to join the battle, but without the command from their General, they couldn’t join the battle.
Every one of them had been patiently waiting.
Now...
They had finally received permission.
And now, they had that chance to send the undead back to the underworld where they belonged.
Their blood boiled with anticipation.
Their eyes burned with savage confidence.
Just as the General’s elite legion was charging forward, a whistling sound cut through the air from the sky.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Ahhhh! Ahhhh!
A crimson trail appeared above the archers’ legion and bodies fell one after another.
Heads spun into the air.
Body split into two.
Blood sprayed across nearby archers.
The orderly archer formation instantly descended into panic.
What!
The General was stunned for a second but recovered quickly.
"Fire! Fire!"
The archers reacted quickly and released a dense volley of arrows into the sky.
Thousands of arrows darkened the heavens.
The moonlight disappeared beneath the overwhelming rain of arrows.
Although the General did not know where the target was coming from, the volley of arrows would serve as a deterrent.
That was his plan.
But what happened shattered his worldview.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The red flashes cut through the dense arrows at impossible speed, arriving before the stunned archers.
They weaved effortlessly between countless arrows.
Cutting through the arrows as if they were nothing but fragile cotton. Their speed completely defied common sense.
Swiss! Swiss!
Heads fell from their necks and blood gushed out like broken pipes.
Bows were cut into two.
Armor split apart as though made of paper.
Ahhhh! Ahhh!
Grievous screams echoed among the archers.
Hell was let loose.
Panic erupted instantly.
Swiss! Swiss!
Bodies fell one after another without stopping.
The crimson flashes appeared and disappeared, leaving trails of blood in their wake.
No one could stop them.
No one could even follow their movements.
Every appearance claimed several more lives.
"Fire!"
"Fire!"
The General screamed at the top of his lungs.
Veins protruded across his face. His eyes had already become bloodshot. He thought the situation could not become any worse, but he was wrong.
Too wrong.
"Scatter! Scatter!" he shouted.
Staying together would only make them easier targets. The dense formation had become the greatest weakness of the archers.
When the archers heard this, it was as if they had received an imperial pardon.
They fled at top speed.
Some abandoned their bows.
Others even threw away their quivers to lighten their bodies.
"D-Don’t... Ahhhh!"
"I surrend... Ahhh!"
"Ahhh!"
"I’m not..."
Before their desperate pleas could finish, the crimson flashes had already passed them.
Heads rolled.
Bodies collapsed.
Fresh blood soaked the crimson sand.
Even while scattering in every direction, the angels of death hunted them down at alarming speed.
Death was everywhere.
No matter where they ran, the crimson flashes always found them.
The General watched with gritted teeth as his archers were hunted down. Every death was another dagger piercing his pride.
Every scream deepened the hatred burning inside his heart. With his strength, he could only faintly see the shadows of the creatures.
That alone stunned him.
For the first time in many years, he felt powerless. Shaking his head, he averted his gaze and focused on the main battle.
’I promise you all. I’ll avenge you,’ he vowed in his heart.
His eyes locked onto his elite legion, his heart surging with confidence.
As long as they entered the battlefield, everything could still be salvaged. But then, at the end of the battlefield, a terrifying undead appeared.
