Chapter 421: Defend! Defend! Defend!

Looking at the tens of hundreds of archers raising their bows to the sky, the Commanders were filled with confidence as they also raised their heads.

Their expressions gradually relaxed.

As long as the hidden enemies revealed themselves, they believed everything would return to normal.

They wanted to see what was killing their men from the sky.

They wanted to know what kind of terrifying creature possessed such frightening speed.

Against tens of hundreds of arrows, the Commanders did not believe whatever was hiding in the sky would survive.

No matter how fast the enemy was, it could never dodge such a dense rain of arrows.

So they thought.

"What is that?" a Soldier shouted, pointing his scythe in a particular direction.

Hmm?

Most of the Scorpion Soldiers’ attention was on the archers, but the sudden shout caught their attention.

Instinctively, countless heads turned in the direction the soldier was pointing. Turning their heads, the scene that appeared before them sent a cold shiver down their spines.

"T-This..."

The General’s lips trembled, his grip on his massive saber tightening. His eyes widened ever so slightly. For someone as composed as him, such a reaction was almost unimaginable.

As for the Commanders, they widened their eyes in disbelief. Beyond the raging battlefield, they saw more undead Scorpion Men rushing into the battlefield.

The crimson dunes seemed alive.

Undead Scorpion Men continuously emerged one after another.

Previously, their enemy had only released less than ten undead Scorpion Men and that had already given them a serious headache.

Those few undead Scorpion Men had completely disrupted the flow of the battle.

None of their common soldiers could stop the onslaught of less than ten undead Scorpion Men, and now, close to a thousand undead Scorpion Men had appeared all at once.

For a brief moment the battlefield fell strangely quiet. Many Scorpion Soldiers simply stared blankly at the approaching undead army.

Some unconsciously took a step backward.

Others felt their legs trembling.

"Defend!"

"Defend!"

"Defend!"

Each Commander screamed, urging their men to enter a defensive formation. Their voices carried urgency that had never existed before.

Even though they were furious and enraged, they did not let their emotions control them. Their years of battlefield experience immediately took over.

Against the undead Scorpion Men, they knew ordinary Scorpion Soldiers stood no chance. Only by forming a solid defensive line could they hope to withstand the incoming assault.

"Heavy shields to the front!"

"Spearmen, second line!"

Orders echoed continuously throughout the battlefield.

Quickly, the battlefield turned into even deeper chaos, the Scorpion Army moving frantically to form a defensive line against the incoming new threat.

Captains shouted until their voices became hoarse. Soldiers abandoned their previous targets and hurried toward the forming defensive lines.

Ahhh! Ahhh! Ahhh!

But in doing so, many unfortunate Scorpion Soldiers were exposed. The undead servants and beasts immediately seized those opportunities.

They pounced upon them, tearing them into pieces.

"N-No..."

"H-help..."

Some struggled frantically, swinging their weapons, trying to stop the swarm of undead beasts, but it was futile.

Every undead they pushed away was immediately replaced by another.

A Scorpion Soldier chopped apart an undead Jackal Beastman. Before he could pull back his weapon, three undead soldiers had already surrounded him.

Another soldier desperately raised his shield.

The shield lasted only a heartbeat before it shattered beneath countless attacks.

His miserable scream echoed briefly before disappearing.

The battlefield was gradually transforming into a massive slaughterhouse. The more the Scorpion Army tried to reorganize.

Claws ripped through throats.

Sharp bites tore through their stingers.

Blood splattered onto the ground, soaking the crimson sand.

It flowed between broken weapons and shattered armor, forming small crimson streams beneath the endless battlefield.

Their horrifying screams permeated the air, sending shivers down the spines of many of the Scorpion Soldiers.

Everywhere they looked, another familiar face disappeared.

Another comrade collapsed.

Another squad vanished beneath the endless tide of undead.

The battle had taken a twist beyond anything they had ever imagined. What they had expected to be a glorious conquest had become a nightmare.

Looking into the distance, they saw the undead Scorpion Men were still rushing into the battle.

They continued emerging from beyond the dunes.

Their numbers seemed endless.

Wave after wave advanced without slowing.

Fear and panic gripped their hearts.

Many wished to escape, but the fear of being labeled deserters grounded them to their spots.

While their hearts pounded heavily against their ribs, they swung their weapons with all their might.

Every swing had their lives depending on it. Every block determined whether they would survive another heartbeat.

A slower swing meant a quicker death.

They simply hacked wildly at every undead that came close. Unfortunately, against the newly unleashed demons, their struggle was futile.

The powerful undead Scorpion Men tore through their defensive lines with so much ease that it stunned the three Commanders.

Their shields barely slowed them.

Their weapons barely stopped them.

Against enemies that did not feel pain.

That knew no fear.

Death was a thing of the past.

They were the embodiment of death.

Their only mission was to spread it.

To make the Scorpion Soldiers embrace death as soon as possible.

How could the Scorpion Soldiers’ defensive lines stand any chance?

They blasted through their carefully arranged shield formations with their massive bodies.

Heavy shields splintered apart.

Spears snapped into pieces.

Entire rows of soldiers were knocked backward.

Kill one, two would replace its position.

Destroy one undead, another immediately stepped over its corpse.

The pressure never lessened.

Injure them, they would keep coming.

Broken arms did not stop them.

Missing legs only forced them to crawl forward.

Deep wounds merely exposed more rotten flesh.

Still...

They continued advancing.

There was no stopping.

No waiting.

No rest.

Fight.

Fight.

Kill.

Kill.

These were the only things they understood.

Every command from the four undead Gravemind Devourers drove them forward with terrifying precision.

Under such a frightening force, no living army could stop them.

Ahhh! Ahhh! Ahhh!

Screams.

Ear piercing screams echoed across the battlefield.

Everywhere one looked, Scorpion Soldiers were falling at an alarming speed.

Greater Dune Scorpions collapsed beneath countless attacks.

Captains disappeared beneath endless claws and blades.

Blood mixed with sand until the battlefield itself seemed to bleed.

The Commanders were shouting commands every second, urging their mounts to move to save as many soldiers as possible.

Their voices gradually became hoarse. They personally cut down undead wherever they appeared.

Their weapons rose and fell relentlessly. Every strike shattered several undead at once.

Yet...

It was never enough.

Every time they saved one group, another group would fall.

Every time they stabilized one section of the battlefield, another collapsed moments later.

The undead were simply too many.

It was a never ending cycle.
