Chapter 420: Death From the Sky
Thousands of Scorpion Soldiers answered with furious roars.
Their voices merged into one overwhelming wave. The battlefield trembled beneath their battle cries.
The despair that had begun spreading through their ranks was forcefully suppressed.
Weapons were raised once again.
Greater Dune Scorpions let out deafening screeches as they surged forward. The Scorpion Soldiers charged once more with renewed determination.
Listening to the words, the General nodded. He squinted his eyes, staring at the battle like an eagle.
Nothing escaped his sharp gaze.
Every movement on the battlefield was reflected in his eyes.
He watched as the three Commanders sent elite Scorpion Soldiers to deal with the undead Scorpion Men.
The orders spread rapidly through the battlefield.
Elite squads immediately broke away from the main formation.
Without hesitation, they redirected their mounts toward the terrifying undead Scorpion Men.
He nodded lightly with a pleased expression.
A commander, their role was not only to lead the battle but they must also direct the flow of the battlefield.
Only then could an army maintain its fighting spirit.
As for the elite Scorpion squad, they rode their mounts, charging toward the undead Scorpion Men, their eyes blazing with killing intent.
They believed they were more than enough to suppress the few elite undead.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Swiss! Swiss!
Suddenly, from the sky, a flash of red bolts appeared in every corner of the battlefield. They only appeared for a second before they were gone.
They descended so quickly that almost no one managed to follow their movements. Many only saw faint crimson streaks tearing through the air.
Nothing more.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
From the backs of the Greater Dune Scorpions, the heads of the elite Scorpion Soldiers fell from their bodies.
Blood splattered across the Greater Dune Scorpions’ carapaces.
Headless corpses slowly slid from their mounts before crashing onto the crimson sand.
The Greater Dune Scorpions screeched in confusion as their masters suddenly disappeared.
What!
Anyone who saw the scene was scared out of their wits. The battlefield momentarily became silent.
These were elite Scorpion Soldiers. A single one of them could fight ten ordinary Scorpion Soldiers.Yet, they were killed so easily without even managing to retaliate.
Once again, the red flashes appeared on the battlefield again. This time they descended from different directions.
Like blood colored lightning.
Like invisible executioners.
"Defend!" one of the Commanders screamed. His voice echoed throughout the battlefield.
Many raised their shields while some took defensive stances. Others instinctively huddled closer together.
Tension and fear gripped every member of the elite squads.
Cold sweat dripped down many foreheads.
Every eye searched the sky desperately.
Before anyone could breathe, the red flashes appeared and vanished almost immediately.
Swiss! Swiss!
Thud! Thud!
Armor split apart together with their owners.
Heavy breastplates offered almost no protection.
The terrifying attacks sliced cleanly through metal.
Weapons were rendered useless, shattering into fragments.
Even the Greater Dune Scorpions were not spared. Their thick necks were severed in one clean strike.
Massive bodies collapsed onto the battlefield with deafening crashes.
"How is this possible?"
"How could this be?"
"This... is impossible."
The three Commanders widened their eyes in disbelief.
For the first time since the battle began, shock completely overwhelmed them. They could not understand how their enemies could bypass the defenses of their elite squads.
Even the General’s expression gradually became solemn.
But their nightmare had only just begun.
Swiss! Swiss! Swiss!
Bodies fell to the ground in quick succession, their corpses split into two. Blood painted the crimson sand.
Severed limbs scattered across the battlefield. Till death, many did not even know what truly killed them.
Some only saw a flash of crimson before darkness swallowed them forever.
Others instinctively raised their shields, only to discover their weapons and bodies had already been cut apart.
This should have been a glorious battle. The Scorpion Clan had marched from their city with unmatched confidence.
Every soldier believed this battle would become another glorious Chapter in their clan’s history.
But why was everything turning against them?
From the sky, the angel of death descended, harvesting the souls of sinners. Every appearance was accompanied by death.
Every disappearance left behind another corpse.
No warning.
No mercy.
Scorpion Men thought they were fearless.
They thought they were courageous.
They believed nothing could shake their resolve.
They had always believed they were the hunters.
Never the hunted.
But now...
They realized they were wrong.
Too wrong.
Against the killing machine from the sky, the Scorpion Soldiers were trembling, their hearts pounding heavily against their chests.
Their breathing became ragged.
Cold sweat dripped beneath their armor.
Many no longer looked toward the enemy before them.
Instead, their eyes constantly darted toward the sky.
Waiting.
Fearing.
Praying they would not become the next victim.
Their armor and weapons did not provide them with any sense of security.
Their thick scales suddenly felt fragile.
Their heavy shields seemed completely useless.
Even with their Commanders and General behind them, their fear did not lessen but increased.
If even their elite soldiers could not stop the invisible killers...
Then what chance did ordinary soldiers have?
Yet...
Swiss! Swiss!
Scorpion Men continued falling dead every second.
Heads rolled.
Bodies collapsed.
Blood continued flowing without end.
"Run!"
No one knew who shouted, "Run," but everyone near the killing zone began to race for their dear lives.
Several soldiers abandoned their formation completely. Others desperately urged their Greater Dune Scorpions to move faster.
Right now, their pride meant nothing.
Even their strength, which was the source of their pride, meant nothing.
Against an enemy they could neither see nor stop. How could they stop it?
Thus, their only choice was to run for their dear lives.
Their only thought was survival.
Just as they were escaping, the cold, domineering voice of the General echoed across the battlefield.
"Anyone that dares to run will be killed on the spot." His voice exploded like thunder.
It carried overwhelming authority.
Hmm?
Every Scorpion Man that was trying to escape halted in his tracks. Their expressions contorted with fear and dread.
Many Scorpion Soldiers swallowed hard. Even though they were scared of the angel of death from the sky, they feared their General more.
They had witnessed his ruthlessness countless times.
Anyone who abandoned the battlefield would be executed without hesitation.
Fear and trepidation gripped the Scorpion Soldiers’ hearts.
They looked around nervously.
Forward meant death.
Backward also meant death.
For the first time in their lives, they truly understood despair. Their hands tightened around their weapons.
Some gritted their teeth.
Others silently cursed the unseen Necromancer.
"Archers!" the General commanded.
His sharp gaze never left the sky.
Hundreds of archers stepped forward, pulling their bows to the limit with arrows nocked on the bowstrings.
The bowstrings stretched until they creaked.
Every arrow pointed toward the sky.
"Let us see where you hide..." one of the Commanders sneered.
