Chapter 181: Chapter 123: Preparing for Battle
On the roof of the Undead Fortress’s main building.
Li Ziyu looked up at the sky. A great sun hung high, bringing Sunshine Everywhere under the sparse clouds. For Humans, it was a truly fine day, but for the Undead, it was not good news. He turned his head and gazed into the distance. A huge object was already visible—a Mobile Fortress that resembled an armored war vehicle.
’Looks like they won’t be easy to deal with...’
The Mobile Fortresses of different Races varied in appearance and size. Zhang Peng’s Gopher Mobile Fortress, for example, resembled a train. But without a doubt, the higher the Level, the larger the Mobile Fortress. The Jackal Wolfman Mobile Fortress wasn’t as large as the Undead Mobile Fortress, but the oppressive feeling it gave off meant its owner was definitely no ordinary newcomer.
’A powerful enemy!’
This was the first time since arriving in the Otherworld that a Transmigrator had given him the feeling of facing a powerful enemy. The City Lords he had met so far were the Goblin City Lord Yu Gangbo, the Gopher City Lord Zhang Peng, and the Treasure Hunting Catman City Lord Liu Xingxing. None of those three had felt powerful to him.
Watching the armored fortress advance, drawing ever closer, Li Ziyu felt no fear. Instead, a smile spread across his face. He felt something awakening within him; his blood pumped faster, a thrilling excitement mixed with the tension. He spoke slowly, "By my City Lord’s Order! Everyone to your positions! The Minotaurs are to take shelter in the main building! All units, prepare for battle!"
Standing beside him, Liu Xingxing’s expression turned grim. He knew this was serious, and all trace of jest vanished. He gave a formal salute and hurried down the stairs. He, too, had to prepare. Battle was upon them, and no one could escape it. Those who feared to fight would be abandoned.
This wasn’t something Li Ziyu had said, but something Zhang Peng had told him. Zhang Peng, who always kept up with all sorts of information, probably had a much deeper understanding of the Otherworld than Li Ziyu. He had read too many battle reports and seen too many analyses from top players. Without exception, they all said the same thing: when facing another Transmigrator City Lord, once war broke out, you had to fight with the intent to kill or be killed.
Transmigrators were far more ruthless than the Natives!
Natives were limited by their territory. When fighting Natives, you could just run if you couldn’t win. As long as you fled their territory, the Natives most likely wouldn’t give chase. After all, they were also afraid of provoking hostility from Natives in other territories.
But Transmigrators were different. They possessed Mobile Fortresses and could move their territories at will, so being tailed and hunted down was a perfectly normal occurrence. Moreover, the Mobile Fortress was the foundation of a City Lord’s power; as long as it remained, there was always a chance for a comeback. Everyone was a Transmigrator. Who didn’t understand the principle of cutting the weeds and digging up the roots? Once you had the upper hand, you would naturally hunt your enemy to the ends of the earth.
As Liu Xingxing ran out of the main building, he happened upon the Minotaurs of the Tabu Tribe arriving in droves. The children and the elderly were at the front, followed by the women carrying food. At the very back were the young, able-bodied Minotaurs, carrying Totem Poles and radiating killing intent.
Gazing at the Minotaurs, Liu Xingxing was a bit stunned. He had never expected the usually simple and honest Minotaurs to be able to erupt with such a frightening and formidable aura.
Since following Li Ziyu, the Tabu Tribe had been changing bit by bit. Both Mumu and Tas Tuling had been working hard to raise their people’s combat awareness, training them constantly. This was especially true recently, with the addition of a group of "Ancestors," which allowed the Minotaurs, born Warriors, to grow rapidly.
’We are no longer the Minotaurs we once were. We are not afraid to fight!’
’The Undead Fortress is our home. We have put down roots here, living and working in peace. We have met our Ancestors here. If there is an enemy, we will fight!’
Mumu walked past Liu Xingxing and nodded at him. Behind him, Tas Tuling patted Liu Xingxing on the shoulder before heading into the main building. Only after all the Minotaurs had passed did Liu Xingxing snap out of it and run faster toward his own Treasure-Hunting Catman Mobile Fortress.
It wasn’t long after he had been standing on the roof that an Undead came to report, "All the Minotaurs have entered the main building."
Li Ziyu nodded and issued his second command, "Raise the fortress! Activate the Light Armor Shields! Point the ram toward the enemy! All Undead, to your positions! Prepare to engage at any moment!"
As the command was given, the Bone Plate Platform, which had been resting on the ground, slowly began to rise, revealing wheels beneath it. Massive shields rose up one after another, serving as a temporary city wall. A long, thick, hexagonal ram extended from a gap between the Light Armor Shields, pointing straight ahead in the direction of the approaching Jackal Wolfman Fortress.
The Skeleton Longbowmen in the Watchtowers scanned the surroundings, ready to send word the moment an enemy entered their alert range. Skeleton Undead swarmed out of the main building, crowding the Bone Plate Platform. Many of them were without Weapons, as time had been too short for Li Ziyu to create more Bone Sabers and Bone Shields.
The various works of Skeleton Architecture seemed to come alive, twisting and writhing. They were Undead that had not detached from the buildings.
In an instant, the entire Undead Fortress transformed into a war machine, revealing its formidable might.
The Minotaurs witnessed everything firsthand. Strangely, instead of thinking about how to avoid the battle as they would have before, they felt their blood boil with excitement. The young, able-bodied ones gripped their Totem Poles tightly, snorting streams of hot air from their nostrils. They wanted to let out a roar to vent their energy, but feeling it wasn’t the right time, they held back.
The blood of the Beastman Race had never been a peaceful one. Perhaps, deep down, every member of the Beastman Race yearned for the battlefield. This had nothing to do with whether or not they loved peace.
