Chapter 179: Chapter 122: The Jackals Are Coming (2)

Li Ziyu nodded to the two of them. He glanced at the two Cat Girls watching from a distance, then looked away and asked, "So, what’s going on? Where are the Jackal Wolfmen?"

"You come over and tell him yourself." Zhang Peng turned and beckoned to Mengmeng.

Mengmeng glanced at her sister, then nervously ran up to Li Ziyu. She gave a dutiful bow and recounted how she and her sister had seen the Jackal Wolfmen and a Mobile Fortress on the hillside.

"You’ve done well. What do you want as a reward? Food?" Li Ziyu nodded after hearing her out. The Little Cat Girl’s intelligence was indeed crucial; according to her, the enemy was heading straight for the Undead Fortress.

If the Little Cat Girl hadn’t brought the message and the enemy had just charged in, he himself would have been fine, but the Minotaurs living on the Bone Plate Platform, along with Zhang Peng and Liu Xingxing, would have been in for a world of trouble.

Mengmeng swallowed the word "food" that was on the tip of her tongue. Her eyes darted around as she asked earnestly, "Can it be any reward?"

Li Ziyu looked at the mischievous Little Cat Girl before him. "You can tell me what you want."

’To the Tribe’s Natives, I’m the terrifying Master of the Undead, seemingly all-powerful and capable of anything. But I know my own limits. I’m just an ordinary Transmigrator, and there’s a lot I can’t do. If I make a blind promise and the Little Cat Girl asks for something impossible, how embarrassing would that be? I have to maintain my image.’

The Little Cat Girl pursed her lips, hesitating. Then, she gritted her teeth, her gaze hardening with resolve. She pointed to the Minotaurs who had gathered to watch the spectacle and raised her voice. "I want to be like them!"

"Hmm?" The request took Li Ziyu by surprise. He scrutinized the Little Cat Girl.

"Mengmeng, what are you talking about!" Meng Ni was startled by her sister’s words and quickly ran over to scold her. Bowing to Li Ziyu, she said, "My apologies, Master of the Undead. My sister is still young and insensible. Please forgive her for speaking so rashly."

Li Ziyu raised a hand, cutting Meng Ni off. He shook his head slightly at her, but his gaze remained fixed on the Little Cat Girl. "Why?" he asked, intrigued.

The Little Cat Girl glanced at the Minotaurs. She saw in them something her own Tribe lacked—vitality, a feeling brimming with hope. It was the kind of thing you only found when you could live and work in a safe, peaceful place.

The Dora the Cat Tribe was too small, with too few people. ’Forget safety, even finding food is a struggle. If the Tribe were truly prosperous, would the Clan Leader have snatched my food?’

Having her food taken the previous night had hurt Mengmeng deeply. She didn’t want to leave the Tribe she’d grown up in—those were her roots—but she wanted a good life, too!

’A safe life, where you don’t have to worry about food... Is that really so much to ask?’

There weren’t many Minotaurs, either, and they lived among the Undead. Yet, Mengmeng didn’t sense any fear from them. On the contrary, their faces were full of smiles—something rarely seen in the Dora the Cat Tribe.

When Li Ziyu, the Master of the Undead, had asked what she wanted, the sudden inspiration that flashed through her mind had startled her, too. But in the end, Mengmeng chose to voice it. She had to take a gamble. ’Maybe life here with the Undead will be better!’

"Because it’s safe here! And there’s lots of food!" Mengmeng said earnestly, tilting her head up.

Meng Ni clutched her chest, her worried gaze fixed on the Master of the Undead. ’Ancestors above, my foolish sister, do you have any idea what you’re saying? Do you know who you’re talking to? Have you gone mad?’

Li Ziyu was momentarily stunned. He stroked his chin, giving the Little Cat Girl a strange look before shaking his head. "We’ll talk about your request later. First, I have to deal with the immediate problem."

He turned his head toward Liu Xingxing and shouted, "Xingxing! The map! Calculate how long until they get here."

Liu Xingxing acknowledged the order, opened her system inventory, and pulled out a hand-drawn map. She called the Little Cat Girl over to pinpoint the enemy’s exact location.

Emerge!

Li Ziyu gave the command in his mind. With a deep rumble, one piece of Skeleton Architecture after another erupted from the ground. The Cat Girl Sisters were so stunned by the sight that they forgot to speak, simply staring dumbfounded at their surroundings. The Minotaurs, Zhang Peng, and Liu Xingxing, however, were unfazed. ’It’s like this every night, what’s the big deal?’

At that moment, Zhang Peng sidled up to Li Ziyu to report the information Mengmeng had brought him that morning.

"I know," Li Ziyu nodded.

’So that Scout Captain really wasn’t telling the truth. He hid a lot of important information. Or rather, he basically told me nothing useful at all.’

’Their numbers are considerable, and their combat strength isn’t weak—far stronger than what the Fox Maidens told me. But that’s to be expected. After all, they work for a Transmigrator, so they come with a natural Aura buff.’

’Ooh, they’re so strong, I’m so scared. Let’s start with, say, 100,000 Skeleton Undead. If that’s not enough, I’ll just add more.’

Li Ziyu thought to himself as he walked toward the main building.

...

"That must be where the Undead are."

Benjamin and Percy stood on the roof of their vehicle, gazing at the faint cluster of buildings in the distance. They were too far away; even with binoculars, the structures were just a blur.

Percy asked, puzzled, "How were the scouts even discovered? We’re this close, yet there’s no sign of movement from them at all."

On their way, they had discovered signs of a struggle. The Jackal Wolfman Wanderers guarding the fortress vehicle found bloodstains, confirming that the fight had involved their scouts.

Benjamin had boldly ordered the vehicle to advance past the site of the struggle, yet they hadn’t found the slightest trace of the Undead along the way. Not until now, when the distant buildings finally confirmed their location.
