Chapter 176: Chapter 121: Have You Eaten? (2)

Walking up to the Catwoman Sisters, one of the Minotaurs suddenly chuckled. He looked at Mengmeng and said good-naturedly, "You again? Come on over. Don’t make me come and get you."

Remembering the humiliating experience of being caught before, Mengmeng immediately bared her two small fangs at the Minotaur. "I’m warning you, don’t try anything funny!" she said with adorable ferocity. "I’m your City Lord’s guest now, here for a fair trade. You’re not allowed to grab me, or I’ll have the City Lord beat you up!"

Seeing Mengmeng’s hair stand on end and her ears perk up, the Minotaur laughed even harder. He meant the Little Cat Girl no harm; he just thought it was fun to catch her. But since she had mentioned the City Lord, he had to be cautious. It didn’t matter to him which City Lord she was talking about.

He beckoned to the Little Cat Girl. "Alright, I won’t grab you. Come back with me."

Mengmeng blinked, and her bristling hair settled back down. She hadn’t expected the Minotaur to be so reasonable. She tugged on her sister’s arm, signaling for her to follow him. These Minotaurs all worked with the Undead, and they were the ones who had led them to the Undead on previous occasions.

When it came to dealing with the Undead, Meng Ni trusted her younger sister more. Despite being older, she was still terrified in the face of the Undead.

The Minotaur, true to his word, led the two sisters back to the Bone Plate Platform without any trouble.

"You big stu— Uncle Minotaur, what happened here? The ground is so much smoother," Mengmeng couldn’t help but ask as she looked at the renovated Bone Plate Platform.

The Minotaur looked down and scratched his head, explaining, "The Lord City Lord did it all. I’m not too clear on the details myself. You’d better ask him when you see him."

It was early in the morning, and Zhang Peng and Liu Xingxing had just gotten up. They were halfway through washing up when a Minotaur came to inform them that the Catwomen had arrived again. The two just gave an instruction to have the Catwomen wait, then unhurriedly finished getting ready before coming over to see the Catwoman Sisters.

Liu Xingxing was full of energy, his face lit up with a brilliant, sunny smile. He was the very picture of a cheerful young man, showing no sign of his sorry state from being chased by Jackal Wolfmen the day before. Zhang Peng, on the other hand, still had heavy dark circles under his eyes. His head hung low, and he looked half-dead, as if he might drop dead at any moment.

Walking up to the Catwoman Sisters, Zhang Peng gave a boneless wave and yawned, "You’re here bright and early. Have you eaten?"

It was a casual question out of habit. Although he had been in the Otherworld for some time, he couldn’t shake the greeting customs from his past life. The Catwoman Sisters were taken aback. The Races in the Wasteland didn’t have the custom of asking whether someone had eaten; they usually got straight to business.

’He didn’t say that last time. Was it because our timing was bad then?’

Meng Ni glanced at her younger sister and saw that she hadn’t seemed to process it either, so she replied in a quiet voice, "Not yet."

"Huh?" Zhang Peng lifted his drooping head and gave Meng Ni an odd look. ’She actually answered? I was just being polite.’ He waved his hand dismissively. "If you haven’t eaten, then go back and eat. Just give me the intel first."

Liu Xingxing, standing to the side, felt a little awkward. He had a feeling Zhang Peng’s way of talking would embarrass the Catwoman Sisters. He stepped forward, pulled him back a bit, and said with a smile, "Brother Peng, we can spare the food. I haven’t eaten either. Let’s all eat together."

Zhang Peng turned his head and shot Liu Xingxing an annoyed glare, then prodded his forehead. "It’s a good thing the boss didn’t make you a Merchant, or you’d lose everything. Fine. Since you put it that way, let’s all eat. We’re having roasted meat. Any objections?"

He directed his last words at the Catwoman Sisters, but before they could reply, Zhang Peng went ahead and ordered one of his Gophers to prepare roasted meat for four and bring it over.

Zhang Peng wasn’t as thin-skinned as Liu Xingxing. Li Ziyu’s Undead didn’t eat, so he wasn’t too concerned about food. Liu Xingxing had Li Ziyu as a backer, so getting meals was never a problem—he still didn’t hunt for himself, just leeching off the boss. But Zhang Peng was different. As a Merchant, he was well aware that food was hard currency in the Wasteland.

’Treating the Catwoman Sisters to a meal was already generous enough. If they were going to be picky, they could just not eat.’

’There’s meat to eat?’

At the mention of meat, the Cat Girl Sisters swallowed hard. The portion of meat they received was small, and they had to save some as reserves, so they hadn’t eaten much last night. Now that they heard Zhang Peng was treating them to meat, how could they possibly be picky? As long as it was meat, it was fine. Forget roasted—they would even eat it raw.

Soon, a Gopher brought over the roasted meat. Liu Xingxing took it and turned it over, looking slightly disgusted. ’Well, their roasting technique is nowhere near as good as the Undead’s. One side is burnt, the other is half-raw and still bloody. It looks awful.’

"Don’t be picky when you have something to eat. This isn’t a restaurant," Zhang Peng said irritably when he saw Liu Xingxing’s expression.

His Gophers were hardly master chefs. In fact, they rarely came into contact with cooked food. Most of the time, they ate tree roots, grass roots, plant shoots, and also insects. They usually ate them raw, since that stuff was high in protein and easy to get.

They’d grab fat, plump insects and stuff them directly into their mouths, chewing until the juices gushed out. Beetles were a traditional snack for the Gophers; they’d catch one and eat it whenever they felt like it—nice and crunchy.

The fact that they could produce roasted meat at all was impressive enough; demanding it be delicious was asking too much. If you wanted to eat well, it was more reliable to just cook it yourself.

Zhang Peng, for his part, was too lazy to do it himself. As long as it was edible, it was fine.

Zhang Peng wasn’t picky himself. He used a small knife to cut his portion into pieces and ate it bit by bit. As for the Catwoman Sisters, they could eat raw meat, so salted and seasoned roasted meat was absolutely no problem for them. They ate with great relish. The only one who had trouble stomaching it was Liu Xingxing.
