Chapter 175: Chapter 121: Have You Eaten?
Driving the Dark Skeletons back into the shadows, Li Ziyu rubbed his brow. ’That Scout Captain was full of lies. The few truths he told were things I already knew. Since I couldn’t get anything out of him, killing him was a simple decision.’
Mei Ji had told him that Jackal Wolfmen weren’t trustworthy. They would do anything to save their own skin, but it was best not to believe a word they said. For those creatures, deception was practically an instinct.
For instance, the scout claimed there were over two thousand Jackal Wolfmen in the enemy fortress. Li Ziyu didn’t believe that for a second. The answer had come too easily, without a hint of hesitation. Besides, based on intel from his Undead and the extent of the damage to Liu Xingxing’s fortress, he estimated the enemy’s numbers weren’t just two thousand—they were likely five times that.
Li Ziyu didn’t even believe the name of the Lord he was given. Still, the other party was undoubtedly a foreigner; even lies need some basis in reality.
What Li Ziyu hadn’t expected was that the Scout Captain had indeed given him the name of a City Lord—just not the Jackal Wolfman City Lord, but the Kobold City Lord.
Percy Jackson was an ally of the Jackal Wolfman City Lord, Benjamin Mac. But to a Jackal Wolfman, anyone who wasn’t one of their own could be betrayed without a second thought.
"Decompose the corpse."
Li Ziyu ordered the system in his mind.
[Decomposed Jackal Wolfman +1. Obtained: Skeleton x2 units, Jackal Wolfman hide x1, intact wolf fangs x42, intact wolf claws x18, Soul Energy x100 units.]
[Decomposed Earth Wolf +1. Obtained: Skeleton x1 unit, Earth Wolf hide x1, intact wolf fangs x42, intact wolf claws x18, Soul Energy x20 units.]
...
He had to admit, the Soul Energy from the Jackal Wolfmen was quite high—the most of any Race he’d encountered so far. Even the Earth Wolves they brought along yielded 20 units of Soul Energy, which was much better than the Desert Wolves and on par with the Sharp-toothed Earth Dogs ridden by the Goblin Cavalry.
After all that, it was nearly morning. The sun rose, and the Undead returned to their dormancy.
"This life is like a game of Werewolf."
Before going dormant, Li Ziyu stretched languidly and sighed with genuine feeling. In that game, the call was "Night falls, everyone close your eyes." For him, it was "Day breaks, time to sleep." Close enough.
The Jackal Wolfman Fortress.
Benjamin waited all night, but the scouts never returned. It wasn’t until the sky was bright that he was certain the Jackal Wolfmen he’d sent out were dead.
"Fuck!" he cursed, forcefully hurling the cup in his hand. Wine splashed everywhere.
"Whoa, easy there!" The cup smashed right next to Percy, who had come to see Benjamin. Percy dodged the cup and held up his hands toward Benjamin. "What’s gotten into you? Throwing a fit this early in the morning?"
Benjamin cracked his knuckles, breathing heavily with rage. Only when Percy was beside him did he speak, his voice laced with anger. "The scouts are dead. The Undead found them."
"What? Dead?" Percy exclaimed dramatically. "Didn’t we get any intel on the Undead?"
"How could there be any intel? The scouts are dead! They’re dead, and I didn’t get any useful information, you understand?" Benjamin yelled, exasperated.
"Okay, okay, calm down, Benjamin. It’s just one squad of scouts. It’s not like you’re short on them, right? I remember from the game, Undead are supposed to be weaker during the day," Percy said, holding his hands up to his chest to show he wasn’t trying to provoke him, while also offering a reminder.
"What are you getting at?" Benjamin grabbed another cup, poured some wine, and took a sip with a frown. The wine in the Otherworld was terrible, nothing like in his previous life. It was also a rare commodity; very few Tribes had any alcohol.
"Why send scouts? We can go check it out ourselves. If we’re spotted, I’m confident we can get away," Percy explained, seeing that Benjamin hadn’t grasped his meaning.
Benjamin paused mid-drink, seriously considering Percy’s suggestion. His eyes lit up. He felt Percy had a point. If the Undead really were weaker during the day, it might be an opportunity. Even if they weren’t, with the fortress to fall back on, escaping shouldn’t be a problem.
But he would wait a bit longer, until the sun was higher in the sky. That would be safer.
...
The Catwoman Sisters didn’t get much of the meat they had traded for from Zhang Peng yesterday. Even the meat Mengmeng had traded for herself was taken by the Clan Leader and distributed evenly.
The two of them had put in the most effort but received the smallest share. The sisters felt it was deeply unfair, but no matter how unbalanced they felt, they had promised to deliver intel to the Undead, and they had to follow through. The Undead wouldn’t care how wronged they felt.
The two sisters spent the night gathering information about the "robbers" and rushed over after the sun rose.
Not far from the Bone Plate Platform, Meng Ni grabbed Mengmeng and looked ahead, a little unsettled.
"Mengmeng, I feel like something’s not right," Meng Ni said, frowning in the direction of the Bone Plate Platform.
Mengmeng craned her neck to look, confused by her sister’s words. "What’s not right? We’re almost there if we just go a little further."
Meng Ni shook her head. "Something’s off. The platform wasn’t this big the last time we came."
"Hmm, I guess it is bigger than before." Only after Meng Ni’s reminder did Mengmeng belatedly notice. She really hadn’t paid attention; in just one night, the platform had actually grown much larger.
Meng Ni hesitated, wondering if they should continue. The sudden change made her uneasy. But just then, Mengmeng spotted several burly figures. Her eyes lit up, and she raised an arm, waving. "Hey, you big dumb ox, over here, over here!"
Mengmeng’s sudden shout startled Meng Ni. She tugged at her sister, but it was too late. Several Minotaurs who had come out to gather resources that morning heard the call. They all looked over, saw the Catwoman Sisters, exchanged a glance, and began striding toward them.
