But Raylo shook his head.

He glanced at Lillian, who stood beside him, her face alight with excitement and anticipation. Then, smiling, he said,

"Grand Mage, my sister, Lillian, was the one who found this amber. So, the wish should be hers to make."

Lillian trembled the moment Raylo finished speaking.

She raised her head and looked at Raylo.

Lillian’s lips trembled, and her eyes instantly reddened.

"Go ahead."

Raylo gave her an encouraging look.

"You’ve earned this."

Lillian took a deep breath, suppressing the roiling emotions inside her.

She walked up to Mage Delin, first offering a respectful mage’s salute. Then, her voice filled with longing and resolve, she said,

"Venerable Mage Delin, I... I want to study magic under you!"

Ever since she learned that the white-bearded old man before her was none other than the legendary "Star" Mage Delin, only one thought had occupied Lillian’s mind.

Becoming a student of a Legendary Mage was a dream come true for any mage.

However, when she finished, Mage Delin slowly shook his head.

"Child, I cannot grant your request."

His voice was gentle.

The excitement and anticipation on Lillian’s face instantly froze.

She looked at Delin in confusion, unable to understand why he had refused her.

’Is my talent not good enough?’

"Why?"

She couldn’t help but ask, her voice tinged with hurt.

Seeing her crestfallen expression, Mage Delin smiled and explained,

"Your magical talent is immense. You possess the Heart of the Fire Element; you are a child of the flame. Given enough time, your future accomplishments may even surpass my own."

Instead of feeling happy at the Grand Mage’s high praise, Lillian only grew more confused.

"Then why..."

"Because your path is different from mine."

Mage Delin interrupted her.

"I specialize in Spiritual and Star magic. Your future, however, lies in the domain of Flame. If I were to take you as my student, not only would I be unable to offer you the best guidance, I would actually hinder your growth."

"You are like a raging, blazing fire, while my path is the starry sky. A fire cannot burn amongst the stars."

Lillian fell silent at Mage Delin’s explanation.

Though she was reluctant to accept it, she knew the Grand Mage was speaking the truth.

Just as she was feeling utterly dejected, Mage Delin’s gaze moved past her. It settled on Avril, who had been standing quietly behind her the entire time.

"However..."

A peculiar glint appeared in Mage Delin’s eyes.

"Your companion, however, is quite suited to my path."

Avril froze. She hadn’t expected the conversation to suddenly turn to her.

"Me?"

She pointed at herself uncertainly. After all, her magical talent was quite average. It was only thanks to the limitless support of her father, Marquis Orlando, that she had barely managed to become an Official Mage before coming of age.

She had only started to feel a real improvement after marrying Raylo and, on his advice, changing her specialization to Spiritual Magic.

"Yes, you."

Mage Delin nodded.

"Your Spiritual Power is both tenacious and pure. Even more remarkably, your soul is like a tranquil lake, without the slightest impurity."

"You possess the greatest talent for learning Spiritual Magic."

Mage Delin looked at Avril as if gazing upon a flawless, uncut gem.

"Child, would you be willing to become my student?"

This sudden, wonderful surprise left Avril reeling.

She instinctively glanced back at Raylo.

Raylo gave her an encouraging smile.

Avril no longer hesitated.

She walked before Mage Delin and respectfully performed the rite of discipleship.

"Good, good."

Mage Delin stroked his white beard, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.

It had been a long time since he had encountered a student who pleased him as much as Avril.

Although Lillian was happy for Avril’s success in becoming his student, she couldn’t shake her own feelings of disappointment.

She looked down, her spirits low.

Seeing her forlorn expression, Mage Delin chuckled and said,

"Little girl, don’t lose heart. While I cannot take you as my student, I have an old friend whose path might be a perfect match for you."

Lillian’s head snapped up, the fire of hope rekindling in her eyes.

"Really?"

"Of course."

Mage Delin nodded.

"That old friend of mine has spent years traveling Beyond the Heavens. He only recently returned to this world and has been vexed with finding an heir to his legacy. He will most certainly be interested in your talent."

"Then... then let’s go find him right away!"

Raylo also spoke up, addressing Mage Delin earnestly.
