Chapter 643: A Good Place
The shrine.
"So this place is actually this quiet at night." Still keeping his hold on Miko’s hand, Kaito walked up the stairs toward the shrine above together with Miko.
Perhaps because it was already nighttime, everything around them was extremely quiet now—nothing but the sound of their two pairs of feet on the steps.
"Of course it’s quiet at night, when there’s hardly anyone around. Didn’t you stay here before? How could you have forgotten so quickly?"
Likewise gripping Kaito’s hand tightly, Miko turned her head to glance at his profile and answered as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
It had to be said, at this moment Miko felt absolutely splendid, because right now it was just her and Kaito, with no one else off to the side.
Still, she knew all too well that chances like this were truly far too few. This fellow Kaito drew bees and butterflies everywhere he went; there were always all sorts of girls beside him.
Take this last trip to Liyue, for instance—right afterward, one more, a Mobius, had been added to the mix.
Granted, Mobius and Kaito had known each other from quite early on, but that didn’t change her conclusion in the slightest.
"Maybe it’s because I’ve run into too many things, so I forgot."
After thinking it over, Kaito offered up this reason.
Since he’d forgotten why exactly he had forgotten that this place was so quiet at night, this was the only sort of answer he could give.
"Tch, ’run into too many things’—I think it’s more like you’ve run into too many girls."
At this, Miko couldn’t help rolling her eyes.
The way she saw it, this fellow Kaito had surely forgotten the whole thing precisely because he spent all day indulging himself among the various girls.

Hearing what Miko said, Kaito couldn’t help thinking this to himself.
But after mulling it over, Kaito still didn’t actually say it out loud.
After all, in Miko’s eyes, he was someone with plenty of girls at his side.
"It’s definitely not because of that." After thinking about it for a moment, Kaito ultimately gave this reply, because that was simply the truth.
And just as he gave this answer, the two of them had already arrived at the very top of the stairs.
At this, Miko instinctively tightened her grip on Kaito’s hand, as if afraid he was about to leave right then and there.
Such a rare chance for the two of them to be alone—she didn’t want Kaito to leave so soon.

Suddenly hitting on an excuse, Miko spoke up: "Kaito, come with me to clean up some things somewhere."
"Clean up some things? It’s this late and you still want to clean things up?"
Clearly somewhat puzzled, Kaito turned his head to look at Miko.
To this, Miko said: "Aiya, just come with me first and we’ll talk about it later."
"Mm, then you lead the way."
Without thinking on it any further, Kaito nodded.
After that, the two of them came before a building that was obviously used to store all sorts of things.
Perhaps because it was nighttime, Kaito didn’t see anything around that needed cleaning up; he could only guess that whatever needed tidying was inside this room, which ought to be a storage room.

As Miko opened the door of this building, the two of them walked in together.

With a click, the lights inside came on, and what met their eyes was indeed a place that was plainly a storage room.
"Come on, let’s go down to the basement." Seeing Kaito glancing all around, Miko tugged him along toward a corner.
"The basement? Why do I get the feeling, Miko, that you’re about to lock me up in the basement to do something to me?"
The moment he heard "basement," Kaito cracked this joke.
"It’d be more like you locking me up in the basement—I can’t even beat you in a fight."
First wearing a look of speechlessness, Miko offhandedly said this.
Then, before long, Miko came to realize that this basement seemed like a fine place to do certain things.
Before this, she’d still been thinking that she’d have to go seek Kaito out just to do some unmentionable things, since the shrine wasn’t really a convenient place to do that sort of thing.
But now, she felt as though she’d discovered a wonderful spot.
