Chapter 275: A Fluttering Heart

"But I can rest as well as take care of my pregnant self-staying here, just as well." Janice didn’t understand.

Chris knew that she wanted to stay to share the load of taking care of his mother.

But she neglected one thing - she herself also needed someone to take care of her.

Moreover, at the Allson’s, she was the priority. Here, everyone and everything revolves around her.

That would exhaust a lot of energy and resources.

He frowned, walked to her side, and sat down. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder and whispered, "Don’t you want to spend time alone with me? There will only be the two of us. Even if we are intimate, we don’t have to worry about someone being around. Look, there are so many people here. Don’t you think it’s inconvenient?"

As he spoke, he grabbed her soft hand and placed it on his lips then kissed it.

When she came back to her senses, she blushed. She moved her hand away from his lips and glared at him.

"Why are you starting to be flirty again?" She said coquettishly.

Hearing this, Chris chuckled and held her in his arms. "If I were always serious and not fun loving, would your belly be big now?"

She felt quite embarrassed when she heard this.

"Fine, I’ll go back with you. It’ll be so embarrassing if we go on with this discussion like this."

He loved to see her getting self- conscious just like how she is now. His heart was fluttering, and he really wanted to press her down and kiss her hard.

But he knew that she must be tired, so he restrained himself.

"Okay, you have a rest. I’m going to pack up our stuff now. We’ll move back in the afternoon."

As he spoke, he stood up and went to pack up their things.

In the afternoon, they set off to go back to their house.

Wanda stood at the door as she looked at them getting into the car.

"Janice, take care of yourself. When you have time, come with Chris to visit Grandpa."

Wanda said as she held Janice’s hand.

Janice nodded.

"Mom, please take care of yourself too."

"I will. Go on."

Wanda let go of her hand and watched her get into the car. She waved her hand, when the car drove away and slowly out of her sight, she sighed sadly.

"Miss Allson, since you can’t bear to part with them, why did you let them move back?"

Seeing her reluctance to part, Nanny Daisy asked, perplexed.

Wanda didn’t reply but sighed again.

With Nathan’s character, it would not be easy for her to settle the divorce. She was already old and did not want to embarrass herself in front of her son and daughter-in-law because of this.

After thinking through, it was better to let them go back.

However, Wanda did not explicitly say the reason. Instead, she told Nanny Daisy, "From now onwards, pay more attention to both the house and the surroundings. By the way, go hire a security guard."

Nanny Daisy was stunned. "Miss Allson, is something going to happen?"

Wanda comforted her, "Don’t worry. It’s all good, just in case."

Hearing that, Nanny Daisy relaxed.

The day after Janice and Chris moved back to their house, Nanny Daisy’s helper arrived.

The helper appeared to be a responsible person and Janice was quite satisfied, so she retained the person to help around the house.

There were now at least two people taking care of the family.

It was time for her to go back to work.

So, that night, she told Chris that she was going back to the media agency.

He did not object, but made a suggestion.

"Honey, have you ever considered that it’s not the best to go on staying at the media agency like this?"

Janice’s face was filled with confusion. "What do you mean?"

...

Chris analyzed, "Look, your belly is getting bigger each day. It’s inconvenient to go to work every day. Besides, the agency is busy 24/7. Even though you have special privilege because you are pregnant, but your colleagues are miserable. They often go out to do interviews in the bitter cold and harsh weather. You said that when they come back, they look extremely tired whilst you are sitting comfortably in the air-conditioned office. They will have complaints about you."

Hearing his words, she pondered. She had never considered this question before.

"Will... will they?"

She was a little uncertain.

He said, "I think so. People are easily envious. It doesn’t matter if it’s just one or two days, but if it’s like this every day, someone will be upset."

She felt that what he said made sense. Why hadn’t she noticed it before? She really shouldn’t take her privilege for granted.

She said, "How about, if I talk to the chief editor and tell him not to treat me differently? Be just like the rest?"

Hearing this, he hurriedly said, "That won’t work. You are pregnant. If you do the same, even if you can take the workload and pressure, the chief editor wouldn’t dare make that decision. He doesn’t want to have a reputation for being mean."

"Then what should we do?"

She was in a dilemma. "I can’t resign, can I? No, I don’t want to lose this job."

She said in a troubled tone.

Seeing her distressed look, Chris thought to himself, "Looks like she is finally listening."

He took the opportunity to say, "I have an idea, but I don’t know if you’re willing."

"What?" She hurriedly asked.

Chris cleared his throat and said, "I think you can work at home."

"Work from home?"

She was confused.

He nodded. "Look, your job is to write articles for the magazine, isn’t it?"

She nodded.

He continued, "As long as you have a computer, you can write as much as you need, at home."

"Okay, but I still need to have discussions with my colleagues. And the articles are

not written out of thin air. They are based on data, context and also the frameworks." She said.

"That’s easy. You can Zoom or message them for a discussion. As for the data, you can get them via emails. With Zoom and all the online messaging or conference apps, they’ll save you a lot of trouble."

Upon hearing this, she thought it was feasible.

She said, "I’ll talk to the chief editor."

Seeing that she had agreed, he nodded in satisfaction.

The next day, Janice went into the media agency to report back to work and proposed this to the editor.

The chief editor agreed on the spot and arranged for the team to collaborate with her on this work-from-home (WFH) arrangement.

After this, Janice was a little alarmed why she didn’t think of this solution herself. It was so simple. Was she getting retarded?

She felt a little depressed. As soon as she got home, she called Yvonne. "Yvonne, does pregnancy make one stupid?"

On the other side of the phone, Yvonne had just come out of the toilet and was washing her hands at the sink. When she heard this, she turned off the tap and said with a smile, "It’s normal. During pregnancy, the hormones in your body will change and it will affect your sleep, distract your attention, and so on. People call this being foolish during pregnancy."

"Then will I remain stupid thereafter?" Janice was worried.

...

Yvonne replied, "Of course not. It will slowly change once the baby is born." "That’s good." Janice was relieved.

Yvonne heard her sigh and said, "In fact, it’s a bit of psychological. Before you were pregnant, you can focus 100% of your energy on work, but after you are pregnant, you may divert some attention to other things because of the changes in your body and identity, so you don’t have as much energy to think about work."

Hearing this, Janice felt better. "By the way, I haven’t asked you how you’re doing. How’s your new job?"

Janice suddenly remembered about Yvonne’s new work.

Yvonne glanced at the empty seats outside her room and said, "It’s okay. It’s the same everywhere. It doesn’t matter where I work. I’m used to facing different kinds of patients every day. What about you? I haven’t seen you for a few days. Your belly must be bigger now."

Janice’s gaze fell on her bulging abdomen and she gently caressed it. "It’s indeed much bigger. It’s going to pop in a couple of months."

"Time flies. It feels like it was only a few months ago that you told me you got married. In the blink of an eye, your belly is now huge."

"That’s right. Time flies. By the way, have you been on dates? It’s lonely being by oneself all the time."

When she heard Janice’s question, Yvonne frowned. "I want to, but it’s not that easy."

"What’s going on with you and James ..." "Nothing much. Didn’t I tell you the last time?" Yvonne was feeling a bit frustrated.

A little embarrassed, Janice said. "I know, but don’t judge so fast. Perhaps you can give it a try."

"Stop!" Yvonne said, "Haven’t you always disliked James? Why are you suddenly speaking up for him?"

Yvonne felt even more frustrated now.

Janice responded, "I was just afraid that he might hurt you. But I believe in my hubby. He won’t be friends with anyone of a bad character."

"Alright, I know you love him and love all his dogs, but forget it, I’m not interested in James."

As soon as Yvonne finished her sentence, a message appeared on her computer. She hurriedly said, "Sorry, I’m busy now. I’ll call you back when I have time."

After that, she hung up the phone in a hurry.

Finally, someone had booked an appointment with her. Yvonne sat up straight.

To her disappointment, James walked in.

"Why is it you?"

James walked in and did not miss the disappointed look on her face. He said, "I was just passing by. I came to see you."

Yvonne was speechless.

"Am I that interesting?"

She got up and turned to look out of the window.

James frowned and then glanced at the empty clinic before saying, "Why? Is there no one here to see a doctor today?"

He touched a sore spot. Yvonne was embarrassed.

In recent days, her clinic had been very empty.

It was really humiliating.

She sneered and said, "What? Are you here to laugh at me?"

James hurriedly said, "To laugh at you? I wish you won’t get too busy and stressed up. Otherwise, I’ll be worried."

Yvonne didn’t know what to say. He tends to take things easy himself. "There you go again..."

She didn’t want to talk to him anymore and turned her face away.
