Chapter 273: Janice, You Will Be Blissfully Happy
Chris shook his head. "She didn’t exactly say it but I can tell."
He knew that his mother was never a person who was indecisive. Back then, when the marriage broke down and she was deeply hurt, she resolutely decided within a short span of time to walk out of the marriage. She was extremely decisive and didn’t look back. But after ten years, she was now saying that she wanted to reconsider.
At the end of the day, she was still reluctant to give it up.
Janice could tell that he was unhappy, so she said, "Don’t worry about it. Mom isn’t a child, and she has her own considerations."
"You don’t know my father. He is not someone who easily admits his mistakes. Furthermore..."
Then, he stopped before he finished his sentence.
She asked, "Furthermore, what?"
He frowned and continued, "The Bateman Group is a little unstable right now. I’m worried that he is making use of her."
Hearing his concerns, she did not continue.
She didn’t totally understand about the Batemans or Nathan.
Since she didn’t know enough, she was not in the position to judge.
But when she saw his troubled look, she couldn’t help feeling sorry for him.
"Honey, let’s stop thinking about it, okay? Didn’t you say that you are going to share with me some basic knowledge on infant care?"
Hearing this, he remembered his promise. He said, "Okay, I’ll prepare now and come back to share with you in a bit."
She nodded and watched him walk off.
Ever since the call, Janice noticed that Wanda was often sitting alone in a daze.
Sometimes, she would sit there looking blank for an extremely long period of time.
She thought about how Wanda was normally such a cheerful person, but now she always looked distressed.
Her heart ached whenever she saw this, so she decided to make time to chat with Wanda.
This day, she specially took a day off.
"Mom, what are you thinking about?"
Wanda was in a daze, but when she heard Janice’s voice, she returned to her senses and looked over, her expression was a bit strange.
"Nothing. What about you? Aren’t you working today?"
"Oh, there’s not much going on at the publishing house, so I asked to work from home."
"I see." Wanda nodded. "It’s about time that you take time off. It’s almost coming to five months."
Janice nodded. "It’ll be five months in another week. Mom, did you know, this little one has been very active recently. Sometimes he’ll somersault in my belly."
A wide smile beamed on Janice’s face.
Wanda thought that was pretty interesting. After all, she was pregnant with Chris a long time ago and memories were vague.
"Is that so?"
"Well, feel it if you don’t believe me."
As she spoke, she held Wanda’s hand and gently placed it on her abdomen.
Sure enough, it didn’t take long for the baby in her belly to move.
Wanda sensed the movement in Janice’s stomach. Pleasantly surprised, she smiled and said, "Seems like my grandson is pretty healthy."
Janice nodded. "The doctor said it’s very healthy during the check-up."
"That’s great! A healthy baby is a blessing for the parents. Janice, you are so blessed." Wanda held Janice’s hand and said with great comfort in her own heart.
Janice put her head on Wanda’s shoulder and said, "Mom, you will be blessed too."
Wanda was quiet. After a long while, she sighed and said, "I hope so."
Janice knew that she was not able to convince Wanda and that she wasn’t in a position to do so. She could only make Wanda happier as much as she could and not frustrate herself about the decision to reconcile with Nathan. At the end of the day, Wanda has to make her own decisions.
"Honey, you’re back."
Chris was back from the office in the evening.
...
Janice went forward to welcome Chris with her relatively small belly. She originally wanted to pick up his briefcase, but didn’t expect that as soon as she reached out her hand, he hugged her.
"I can pick up the bag myself. I don’t need your help."
As he spoke, he gently rubbed his head against hers.
Easily tickled, she nudged him away.
Chris did not let go and continued to ask, "What did you do at home today?"
Nanny Daisy was busy in the kitchen not too far away from the entrance and she could see them when she turned around.
At this moment, there was a nurse working in the courtyard.
Feeling a little embarrassed, Janice reprimanded, "Let go of me first."
He knew that she was shy. When they were alone at home and were intimate, she didn’t mind it.
He chuckled and let go of her.
Her face blushed slightly. She looked around before saying, "I was with mom the entire day."
Chris paused then recalled that she had mentioned before that she wanted to spend more time with his mother.
He nodded. "You are so sweet. Thank you."
"It’s a pleasure dear, but mom is in a bad mood. I’m wondering if we should take her on a trip. What do you think?"
She sought his opinion.
He nodded. "That will be great, but, Grandpa..."
"Don’t worry. We’ll go somewhere close by. It won’t take too many days. Nanny Daisy will take care of Grandpa and the nurses are around. If you’re worried, we can arrange for a doctor to be here as well."
Hearing her suggestion, he nodded in agreement. "I’ll ask Rob to plan the itinerary."
She thought for a moment before replying, "Let’s go to the seaside. The ocean has a tranquil effect on a person and we are out in nature, not confined in a space. That will be good for mom to relax and let go of her worries."
Chris thought it was a good idea. It just so happened that he also had in mind a place he had wanted to go.
He nodded his head. "Okay, I’ll have Rob make the arrangements."
After making the decision, Janice began to prepare for the next few days.
She specially took a few days off from work to prepare her luggage and the necessities for her trip. She bought Wanda a Bohemia long dress as she was doing her shopping.
It was a sunny day as they headed off for their trip.
Chris was driving and she sat beside him.
Wanda took Rob’s car.
The two cars departed one after the other.
"Honey, where are we going?"
There were two seaside resorts near Tomaville, one on the east and the other on the west.
The highway which they were on could lead to either destination so she was unsure which one they were headed to.
He winked at her mysteriously and said, "You’ll know in a while."
She frowned at his secrecy.
Why be so mysterious? It wasn’t as if she hadn’t been to both sea sides.
As for Wanda, in the car behind Chris’, she too wasn’t sure if the place they were heading to would be of her liking.
Seated in the driver’s seat, Rob shot glances at Wanda, who was in the back seat, from time to time.
She hadn’t said a word since she got into the car.
Rob knew Wanda’s personality. She wasn’t a quiet person.
Thinking of this, he paused and said, "Ms. Allson, would you like some water?"
As he spoke, he stretched out his hand and handed her a bottle of water.
Wanda paused for a moment before reaching out to take it. Just as she was about to unscrew the cap, she discovered that the cap of the bottle had been twisted open.
She hesitated then realized that Rob had unscrewed the cap for her. She felt a sense of warm feeling filled her heart. She took a sip and put it aside.
"Thank you."
...
Rob was not good with words, and at this time, the atmosphere made him feel a little uneasy. After a while, he said, "Ms. Allson, if you feel that the car is moving too fast and you don’t feel comfortable, let me know. I’ll drive slower."
Hearing this, Wanda nodded and said, "I’m fine. Just keep up with Chris and Janice."
"Okay."
Rob nodded and they were silent until they reached their destination.
Janice and Chris’ car came to a stop. When she saw the familiar scenery, she suddenly realized that the place he had chosen was the place they had visited the last time.
"Honey, so this is the place you have chosen."
No wonder the landscape along the way looked so familiar to her.
Chris nodded. "How is it? Are you satisfied?"
She replied, "Yes."
Of course, she was satisfied. This place was full of happy memories of her and Chris together, but unfortunately, he couldn’t remember them.
However, it wasn’t about her this trip, so it didn’t matter whether she was satisfied or not.
Thinking of this, she turned back and walked to Wanda, who had just gotten out of the car, and asked.
"Mom, are you satisfied with this place?"
Wanda glanced at the surroundings when she heard this, and then she nodded with satisfaction. "Not bad."
Upon hearing Wanda’s words, Janice smiled and said, "Then go ahead and let’s play to our heart’s content. Don’t think about anything else."
Wanda smiled and nodded.
After she had checked into the hotel room, she changed into the dress that Janice had bought for her then walked leisurely along the shallow waters to the beach.
It was the season of autumn and the tide was slowly rising.
The sea breeze was cooling and refreshing.
Her chaotic thoughts over the past few days were abated bit by bit.
She closed her eyes in comfort and stretched out her arms, feeling the tranquility of the sea.
She had been troubled by the issue with Nathan for the past few days. Coupled with taking care of her father, she was physically and mentally exhausted.
At this moment, once she had left the stifling place and arrived here, her entire body felt much more relaxed.
Having settled the luggage, Rob had come out of the resort and happened to see Wanda walking away alone, so he followed her.
When he arrived close to her, she was standing in the shallow waters with her eyes closed peacefully. Hence, he stopped far away and did not disturb her.
It was not until a gust of sea breeze blew and stirred up waves that soaked Wanda’s dress that he ran over in a hurry.
"Ms. Allson, the sea water is cold, be careful not to catch a cold."
Then he took off his jacket and put it on her shoulder.
Wanda opened her eyes and saw the concerned look in Rob’s eyes. She froze for a moment, then glanced at the jacket she was wearing and said gratefully.
"Thank you."
Only then did Rob realize that his behavior was inappropriate. Embarrassed, he retreated to the side and stood quietly without saying a word.
Wanda asked when suddenly a thought came to her, "By the way, how’s the jewelry store doing recently? It’s been so long ago since I was there. That was when I first came back from overseas."
Rob replied, "Not bad. Sales has been pretty good recently. The design department has also launched a range of new products."
Wanda smiled when she heard this.
"By the way, there will be a press conference next week. It would be great if we can have the honor of your support at the event."
Rob remembered and said.
Wanda could only smile in resignation.
"What can I do? Forget it. You can handle these things yourself."
Wanda sighed. Although she was a designer, she did not like such publicity events.
Rob stared at her from beside her and seemed to sense something. He asked, "What’s on your mind, Ms. Allson?"
