Chapter 272: Because I’m Smart
"I, I’ll do it."
The lecturer nodded with gratification at Janice’s.
Seeing this, Chris quickly moved closer to her and asked, "Are you sure you want to go on stage for a demonstration?"
She nodded. "I’m sure. Later, if you don’t know what to do, please ask the teacher humbly. Okay?"
He frowned and didn’t say a word.
After the lecturer had finished selecting the parents for the demonstration, he invited the both of them onto the stage.
The teaching props had already been set up on the stage.
Each set of parents stood behind their operating desks.
"As you can see, in front of you, a baby needs all kinds of things on a daily basis. Next, we will practice how to feed milk and change diapers for a baby. Everyone, please get ready. Pay attention to the instructions that I had shared with you just now. You have three minutes. Ready, go."
He pressed the timer button to start the countdown.
The parents began to get busy.
Janice was a little lost when she saw all the apparatus in front of her.
She had clearly written down her notes on what was needed when feeding milk and changing diapers just now.
However, for some reason, when it came to the practical application, she became confused.
She looked at the baby stuff in front of her and did not know which one to use first. Just as she was getting anxious, she saw that Chris had already started to take action.
Not only that, but he also did it in an orderly manner. Whether it was how to use the milk powder to make milk, test the temperature, feed the child with the milk bottle, change diapers, etc., he did it like a pro.
There was no trace of unfamiliarity, as if he had done these many times, and he was extremely skilled.
She stood there, staring at the him in disbelief.
In fact, when the lecturer announced that they were the winning parents, she was still in a daze as the audience applauded and shouted their envy.
"Honey, how did you do that?"
It was not until she was on the way home and in the car that she asked.
She thought that she had been very attentive during class, but even the theory was not easy, let alone the practical work.
Unexpectedly, he was so skilled as if he had done it numerous times previously.
He would never tell her that he had been secretly learning when he had registered the fake class for her a long time ago.
If it weren’t for the fact that Janice had insisted on attending the classes, he would have taken over all the tasks.
However, he wouldn’t let her know about that.
So he said haughtily.
"Because I’m smart."
Unconvinced, she wanted to refute, but she realized that there was nothing she could say. It was true.
If he wasn’t smart, how could he learn so quickly?
When she thought of this, her eyes began to glow with admiration.
"Can you teach me when you get home?"
She blinked as she asked him to help.
He frowned and said, "You want to master it?"
She nodded profusely.
He coughed, turned his head to look out the window then tried to hold back his laughter. "Okay, I’ll teach you when we get back."
Seeing that he had agreed, she became very cheerful. "Thank you, sweetheart."
She kissed him on the cheek.
Chris was a little startled and almost hit the curb. He said sternly, "I’m driving."
...
"I couldn’t help it." Janice chuckled apologetically.
He chuckled too.
When they reached the Allson’s villa, they saw a black Phaeton parked at the door.
At a glance, Janice recognized it was Nathan’s car.
So did Chris. They exchanged a knowing look at each other but didn’t say anything.
As expected, when they walked in, they saw Nathan in the living room.
He sat on the sofa and Wanda sat across from him. They couldn’t hear what he was saying, but they could see he held her hand with excitement.
Wanda’s expression wasn’t so pleasant. She tried to struggle free, but was tightly grasped by him.
Seeing this, Chris was about to walk over, but was stopped by Janice.
"Don’t. Otherwise, they will be embarrassed."
Hearing this, Chris stopped, but he still looked over with concern.
Seeing this, Janice pulled him away.
He was confused. "Why did you drag me away?"
"No matter what, he’s still your father, so wouldn’t it be awkward for us to go over now?" She was a little frustrated with him.
He frowned. He didn’t really care about how Nathan felt.
All he cared about was that his mother could be hurt again.
Janice was naturally aware of this. She said, "We cannot interfere in their personal matters. Let them take care of it themselves."
"Do you know how much hurt and pain my mother has had to endure?"
"Of course I know, but have you ever thought about why Mom hasn’t divorced him yet? Maybe she is reluctant?"
He fell silent.
She continued, "The concept of relationship in the older generation is different from ours. Let’s not interfere. I believe that your mom will let us know if she needs our help."
Upon hearing her words, he relaxed.
He stared at her. "You make a lot of sense nowadays."
"No, as an onlooker, I am more clearheaded."
Chris teased her by rubbing her little nose. "You’re a clever woman."
Just then, Wanda and Nathan were sitting quietly in the living room, for a long time. After a while, she said, "I get you. Why don’t you go back first?"
She got up and was about to leave, but was stopped by Nathan. "Wanda, I hope you can seriously consider my suggestion." She lowered her head and pursed her lips. "Let’s see."
He did not force her but frowned then turned around to walk out.
After he left, Wanda closed her eyes for a second and was about to go upstairs. "Mom."
Chris called out to her.
When he saw Nathan had left, he came in from the garden. Wanda looked at her son and daughter-in-law with discomfort. "Janice, Chris, when did you come back?"
Hearing this, they looked at each other, then Janice said, "Mom, we just came back."
"Is that so?"
Wanda was obviously not convinced.
Seeing this, Janice hurriedly said, "Mom, I’m going up to get changed. Chris can tell you about the class today. It’s very interesting."
With that, she winked at Chris.
He quickly followed up and said, "Yes, it was an interesting class."
Wanda paused momentarily before nodding and saying, "Okay."
Janice went upstairs.
As soon as she disappeared from his sight, Chris asked, "Mom, what is he doing here?"
...
Wanda naturally knew that Chris was referring to his father.
Wanda was much more relaxed since Janice wasn’t around. She walked towards the sofa to rest her legs and said, "What else can it be? Of course, he’s here to admit his mistakes and ask for reconciliation."
She sneered sarcastically.
It was exactly what Chris had expected. He walked over with a frown and sat down beside her.
"Have you forgiven him?"
Wanda paused for a second before she continued, "Forgiveness? If the hurt he had caused me can be healed with just a few words, this world would be void of hatred and war."
Hearing his mother’s words, he frowned. "So how did you reply him?"
She was silent for a moment, then she said, "I didn’t reply him. I only said that I will seriously think about it."
Hearing her reply, his heart sank. "So you are saying you would consider getting back together."
"Of course not."
Wanda said, "I will not reconcile with him just because he sweet talked me. He has caused us immense hurt over the years. Does he really think that he can get forgiveness with a few insincere apologies? Even if I am willing, you would never forgive him."
Wanda’s words stabbed straight into his heart.
Although he had always wished for a complete family and that his mother would not be alone by herself in a foreign country, but he understood his father’s temperament very well. He did not believe that such a conceited father would bow and admit his mistake.
Even if he did compromise, it would most likely be driven by some kind of personal benefit.
He didn’t want his mother to get hurt again.
As such, he said, "You’re right. I won’t forgive him, even if he’s my father. People have to pay a price for the mistakes they make. Otherwise, there will be no order in the world. As for whether you want to forgive him or even get back together, it’s up to you. Don’t worry about what I think."
After that, he stood up and said, "I’m going upstairs to see Janice. Take your time to think about it."
With that, he went upstairs.
Wanda sat there with her eyes closed, a little annoyed. This was a problem that made one feel conflicted.
When Chris went upstairs to the bedroom, Janice was flipping through the notes of the previous class. She was seated cross-legged on the sofa. Her long hair was tied into a ponytail, and her maternity dress was changed into a set of SpongeBob SquarePants pajamas. She looked like a primary school student who was doing her homework very seriously.
He chuckled as he walked over.
"Do you really need to be so serious?"
"Of course. Revision is important to fully master the knowledge. I have read my notes in detail." As she flipped through a page she asked, "Oh, right, how’s your talk with your mother?"
"Nothing much?" He shrugged. His head was low and he looked unhappy.
When she saw this, she pushed her notebook aside and asked, "Did mom feel conflicted in her heart?"
He didn’t say a word but just nodded.
She thought that was expected.
She knew her mother-in-law would want to get back together with Nathan.
If she didn’t care about him, she wouldn’t still take to heart what had happened in the past. After all, it had been so many years. She would have let it go if it didn’t bother her.
She asked, "Has a decision been made?"
