Chapter 270: Doctor, My Heart Is Hurting
When she saw that he had finally left, she heaved a sigh of relief and pressed the call button.
"No. 002, room 502."
The next moment, James Taylor walked in again.
When Yvonne saw him coming back, she was stunned. Then she said, "You’re fine. Get out. I have other patients."
As soon as she finished speaking, he placed his call number on the table in front of her. No 002, Room 502, was written on the little white slip.
She was shocked.
"I’m patient No.2."
He pulled out a chair and sat down in front of her. His expression was calm and he was no longer as terrified as before.
Was he playing a prank on her?
She realized that he was trying to be funny so she slammed her hand on the table in anger.
"James Taylor, what are you doing? Patient number two is called Cecelia Roberts. It’s obviously a woman. Are you a woman?"
He calmly replied, "Maybe they got the gender wrong."
"What about the name?"
She said angrily.
He replied in a nonchalant manner.
"Anyway, I am patient No. 2. It doesn’t matter what name or gender."
Then he took out a medical appointment card and showed it to her.
"This is my appointment card. Look at the name. It’s the same as what you just said."
She went ballistic and all she wanted to do was throw the card in his face. However, the name on the appointment card was indeed patient number two. She could only seethe in frustration and sat back down.
"Okay, Mrs. Roberts, what’s wrong with you?"
She deliberately emphasized the word "Mrs" to piss him off.
He frowned, especially when he heard how she addressed him, he felt strange.
However, when he focused back on his intended mission, he ignored it and said.
"I don’t feel well everywhere except for my body."
She rolled her eyes.
"Be more specific."
"I think the heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys all have some sort of discomfort."
He answered casually.
It was not funny to her. All the internal organs had issues...
She said, "Okay, sit down. I’ll check."
As she spoke, she put the stethoscope on her ear, and started listening to his heart beat.
She was so close to him that he could smell the fragrance of the cosmetics on her face. The faint fragrance was intoxicating.
He couldn’t help closing his eyes and enjoying the scent, but quickly opened them again.
He learnt his lesson and was not going to repeat the mistake.
Before she could say anything, he started groaning in pain, "Doctor, my heart hurts terribly."
She was listening attentively to his heartbeat. When she heard his cry, she was taken aback. She thought to herself, "I wasn’t doing anything wrong and didn’t use much force."
Before she could speak, he added.
"Doctor, you always reject me. My heart hurts."
As he spoke, he clutched his chest and looked in pain.
She knew he was just trying to be funny. She glared at him.
"Okay, I got it."
She put away the stethoscope.
He got closer to her with a smirk.
"What sort of medication are you going to prescribe me this time, Doc?"
As he spoke, he curiously stretched out his head to take a look.
She quickly blocked the screen of her monitor and said, "Do you know about the Heart Reliever Pill (extra strength)? It treats all kinds of heartaches? Happens to be effective for your problem."
She took the printed prescription slip, threw it in front of him and turned her head.
...
"You can leave."
Seeing that he was standing still, Yvonne said with a frown.
James winked at her and then sat down again.
She was confused by his behavior. She looked at the door and saw that it was still shut. Suddenly, she realized what’s wrong and said in disbelief, "No... you are my next patient????"
Hearing her words, he grinned. "I am patient four, five, six... they are all me."
She shook her head and rolled her eyes when she heard this.
No wonder! She was astonished that she was fully booked on her first day of duty.
So it was because of him!
"James Taylor, how can you do this? Do you know that today is the first day that I officially see patients in this hospital?"
She shouted angrily.
He replied, "I know. I’m here to support you."
"To support me?"
How hilarious. As a doctor, she needed patient-fans to support her... ...
What... did he think it was an official opening ceremony?!
She wasn’t sure to laugh or to be mad with him. She asked, "James Taylor, what do you want?"
She was tired and didn’t want to fight with him anymore.
He raised his eyebrows.
"Nothing. Just that in the future, when I call you, can you please answer the phone."
She was surprised. "Are you threatening me?"
"No."
He said innocently.
She hated him so much. It was obvious that he came to the hospital to be a nuisance because she did not answer his calls.
What if she refused?
She recalled what he said in the car the previous night.
"Then I’ll pay for all your time."
God, what if he did this every day?!
When this thought came to her, she had goosebumps all over her.
She stared at James in front of her, feeling at wits end, she finally asked nicely.
"James, tell me, what can we do? I’ve told you many times that we’re not suitable for each other, so can you..."
She wanted to say if he could stop pestering her in the future, but he interrupted her.
"No!"
So she didn’t complete her original sentence but instead said somewhat helplessly. "In that case, tell me, exactly what do you want?" She was at a point of ’whatever!’.
It had not been easy getting hired by this hospital so she wasn’t about to give it up.
James had been waiting for her to ask this.
"I just want to be friends with you. The kind that doesn’t get rejections." There was obsession in his eyes.
When she heard him, she could only give a wry smile.
No one in their sane mind would believe that’s all he wanted.
"I see." She said.
"I did treat you like a friend but your behavior was just truly difficult for me to accept."
She felt very helpless.
He immediately raised his hand and promised.
"I promise that as long as you don’t deliberately avoid me or ignore my phone calls, I will definitely behave like a normal friend and not pester you."
His expression was unusually serious.
She stared at him and was taken in, but she was still worried.
"Are you serious?"
"Really."
Yvonne thought, "Anyway, if I don’t agree, he will continue to be a nuisance so, why not?"
It wasn’t like as if she really hated him that much. As long as he wasn’t shameless, she was willing to be friends with him.
...
Thinking of this, she made up her mind and said, "Well, promise? Don’t go back on your words and be shameless."
"I will definitely keep to my words."
James promised.
He thought to himself, "Of course I am going to be shameless, that’s ME."
Of course, she didn’t know what he was truly thinking. She believed him and said, "That’s a deal. Now, please cancel all the rest of your appointments."
"Don’t worry about it. I’ll fix it."
Yvonne then nodded and asked.
"How did you manage to fix so many appointments?"
Hearing her question, all he did was smile.
It was easy. He called his assistant the night before and asked him to pay people to call in for appointments and get the queue numbers.
But he wasn’t going to tell her how he did it.
"I won’t tell you."
He blinked his eyes evilly.
Yvonne was speechless. "If you don’t want to say it, then don’t. Since we are done, you can leave now."
He glanced at his watch and said, "It’s almost noon. Let’s have lunch together."
When she heard his proposition, she hesitated.
Seeing this, he said, "Friends can’t have lunch together?"
She frowned and thought to herself, "If I reject him now, he’ll go back to behaving like before."
So, she said, "It’s ok."
The two headed off to a restaurant not far from the hospital.
As soon as Yvonne sat down, she received a WhatsApp message from Stanley.
"Yvonne, let’s go to the cafeteria to have lunch."
She glanced at James, who was sitting opposite her, ordering food from a menu. She sighed and immediately replied, "I’m sorry, Stanley. I have an errand today. Can’t meet you for lunch at the cafeteria. Maybe another day."
After a while, he replied with an "okay".
She felt a little depressed seeing his one worded reply.
She had missed two opportunities to spend time alone with him.
It was all James’ fault. If it wasn’t for him, her relationship with Stanley might have progressed.
She glared at him bitterly.
"What’s wrong?" He frowned when he detected her unfriendly glare.
She immediately lowered her head and picked up her glass of water to pretend that there was nothing peculiar.
"Nothing."
He didn’t think much about it and handed her the menu.
"You can order whatever you like."
She didn’t take the menu that he handed her. Instead, she said, "It’s ok. You can order whatever is good and I’ll just eat a little off it."
"No, that won’t work. It’s the first time I’m buying you lunch. Get something you like."
She, on the other hand, couldn’t really be bothered. It was just a simple lunch, and it’s not as if they didn’t know each other. What was the big deal?
Besides, she didn’t really have an appetite.
Seeing that James was unrelenting, she had no choice but to take the menu. She glanced at the menu and ordered something simple before putting it aside.
Seeing that she had only ordered a main dish without any dessert, he took the initiative to order a portion of dessert.
When the food was served, he noticed that she had eaten very little. He asked, "You ate so little?"
She replied, "I’ve put on weight recently. I need to lose weight."
