Chapter 239: I Only Admit The Paternity Test
At this moment, Sophie happened to cover her face as she walked over. When she saw Christopher standing there, her heart couldn’t help but did a flip. She thought, "Why is he here?" Her heart was flustered as she quickly walked over, but only dared to hide behind Nathan.
"Dad." She called out timidly.
Nathan looked back at her and said, "Since everyone is here today, I’ll get straight to the point. I’ve already found out what happened three years ago. In Switzerland, Sophie gave birth to a girl, who was Chris’s daughter."
As soon as Nathan finished speaking, both Christopher and Wanda were dumbfounded.
However, Christopher quickly came back to his senses.
It turned out that his father suddenly defended Sophie for this reason.
No wonder Nathan suddenly sent someone to Switzerland.
However, Christopher only found it ridiculous.
And he didn’t expect that Sophie had made up such a lie.
Christopher asked, "Are you sure you have investigated it thoroughly?"
Nathan said, "Yes."
However, Christopher sneered as if he had heard a hilarious joke. Then he looked at Sophie, and his eyes instantly became cold. "Are you sure that child has something to do with me?"
The look in his eyes was so oppressive that it seemed to be able to see through people.
Sophie was so guilty that she didn’t dare to look at Christopher and hurriedly hid behind Nathan.
"Dad, I knew my brother wouldn’t accept Anna."
She bit her lip and looked as if she had been wronged.
Nathan comforted her, then looked at Christopher and said, "It’s not up to you. That child is yours, so you have to admit it."
When Christopher heard this, he found it a little absurd.
"Well, since she claims that her child is mine, then show me the evidence. As long as there is evidence to prove that the child is mine, I will admit it."
"I’ve asked someone to investigate it. What evidence do you need?"
"What about the paternity test? I only admit the paternity test." Christopher insisted.
Hearing the paternity test, Sophie immediately panicked. Without waiting for Nathan to speak, she cried and said, "Dad, Chris is insulting me. We all know what happened back then, and you’ve investigated in Switzerland. The date of my childbirth matched it perfectly. Isn’t that enough?"
Sophie cried bitterly.
Nathan’s heart ached when he saw this. "I have the final say in this matter. Chris, as a man, you have to bravely bear the consequences of your mistakes. Do you remember what I taught you to do when you were a child?"
"I will admit it if I have done something wrong. However, if I have done nothing wrong, I won’t admit it no matter how hard you try to persuade me. Since you insist that the child is mine, why don’t you dare to do a paternity test?"
Christopher looked sharply at Sophie.
Sophie was slightly flustered.
"I... Dad, you know Anna..."
She concealed her panic with sobs.
"Chris! You’ve gone too far!" Nathan said as he pulled a long face.
This time, without waiting for Christopher to speak, Wanda stepped forward and questioned Nathan. "Nathan, why do you trust her so much?"
Nathan frowned. "I only believe in the truth."
"Alright, just wait for the day that you go back on your own words. Chris, let’s go."
As Wanda spoke, she pulled Christopher by the hand and walked out.
When they went outside of the house, Christopher frowned. "Mom, why did you pull me away?"
Only then did Wanda let go of Christopher. "Chris, I know that you didn’t do it. Sophie is the one who wronged you. But have you ever thought that since she dared to make such a lie, she must have been well-prepared for it? Don’t you find it strange that even someone as cautious as your father can’t find any clues about it?"
...
Christopher understood Wanda’s words.
Her father had always been a cautious person. If even he couldn’t find out, it meant that Sophie had planned this for a long time.
He said, "I’ll send someone to investigate in Switzerland."
Wanda nodded. "However, the most important thing now is to find the child first and then do a paternity test. Have you noticed that your father doesn’t want you to have a paternity test as much as Sophie does?"
Wanda raised her question.
Christopher could see that point, which was also what puzzled him.
After all, his father was sure to know that no amount of evidence could match the authority of the paternity test.
In that case, there could only be one possibility, which there must be something that they did not know about.
"Also, don’t let Janice know about this. She’s pregnant now, so she can’t stand any blows."
Christopher paused for a moment and then subconsciously glanced at Janice, who had been waiting for him in the car.
He was afraid that she would have a miscarriage, so he particularly let her wait in the car. At that moment, he was glad that she didn’t hear their conversation.
However, when he thought of Janice’s attitude from before, he said, "Mom, I believe Janice won’t believe this."
Wanda nodded. "That’s good, but you still have to give her a warning in advance. Sophie is capable of doing anything. Don’t let her hurt Janice."
Hearing his mother’s words, Christopher nodded.
Janice waited in the car for a long time, but she just didn’t see Christopher and Wanda come out. When she was about to get off to check, she saw the two of them come out from the inside, so she quickly opened the door.
"Mom, Christopher."
When Wanda saw Janice, she stepped forward and said, "Silly child, you even followed me here. I told you I would be fine."
When Janice saw Wanda walk out unharmed, she felt that she overthought too much. After all, Wanda definitely knew Nathan and Sophie better than she did.
"Well, you two go back now. I want to walk alone," said Wanda.
Janice didn’t say anything more. She just told Wanda to go back earlier. And then she got in the car and left with Christopher.
In the car.
Christopher glanced at Janice in the driver’s seat and hesitated for a moment before speaking.
"Janice, I have something to tell you."
His sudden seriousness caused Janice to briefly pause and then said, "Go ahead."
Only then did Christopher pause and speak out. "No matter what Sophie tells you, you must not believe her."
Janice was stunned when she heard this. Then, she thought of something. She wondered if he already knew about the child.
Seeing that there was no response, Christopher looked over in confusion.
Then Janice said, "Yes, I definitely won’t believe her."
Hearing her words, Christopher heaved a sigh of relief.
In the Bateman family’s old mansion.
After Christopher and Wanda left, Sophie lied that she was not feeling well and went back to her room.
Remembering that Christopher had mentioned that he wanted to do a paternity test, she quickly called Joey.
"Hello, Joey, listen to me. Now, take Anna back to the countryside to hide for a while. I will send you the address later. That is my mother’s hometown."
Joey, who was on the other side of the phone, was stunned. "Sophie, Anna can’t go so far away. You know her health condition. She has to go to the hospital once the attack breaks out. Besides, there is no such medical service in the countryside."
Sophie said impatiently, " Just do as I say. Don’t talk too much."
"But Sophie..."
"Fine, it’s not a big deal. I’ll hire a doctor to go with you."
...
Hearing her say that, Joey agreed.
"Oh, by the way, I did what you asked me to do before. But Sophie, you’ve put so much cash into this... Is it OK?"
Sophie now had no mood in caring about such a thing. She merely replied, "Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing."
Joey didn’t say anything else. After hanging up, he began to pack up his things.
Anna was playing with a ball in her room. Seeing that he was packing up, she tiptoed over.
"Uncle, are you taking me to find Mom?" She was only three years old and couldn’t speak very clearly. But from her expression, Joey knew that she was excited.
Every time she mentioned her mother, she smiled so sweetly.
Joey frowned; he didn’t know how to answer her.
He knew that this time, he wouldn’t take her to see her mother, but instead would take her to an unfamiliar place for an undetermined amount of time.
She hated unfamiliar places the most. When she had returned from Switzerland, she had adapted to the new place for a very long time.
He put down what he was doing, saying, "Anna, I will take you to an interesting place. In a few days, Mom will come and play with you."
"That’s great. Mom will play with me." Anna smiled and clapped her hands happily.
Joey was relieved to see her so happy.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
He froze for a moment, then cautiously got up and walked towards the door. He looked out through the peephole, and when he saw Rob standing outside the door, he felt surprised.
"How did he find this place?" Joey thought.
"Uncle." Anna suddenly called out.
He hurriedly made a gesture to her to keep quiet, then returned quietly and carried Anna to her bedroom.
Outside the door, Rob knocked on the door for a while, but no one responded. Just as he was about to leave, the door opposite opened.
"Who are you looking for?"
Rob paused for a moment, then he turned around and said, "I’m here to find a friend."
"Friend? He seems to have gone out. You can come back tomorrow. This is primarily a residence for elderly people. They’re all taking afternoon naps right now. If you keep knocking, you’ll wake them up."
Rob was a little embarrassed. "I’m sorry. I’ll come tomorrow."
Then he took a glance at the door and left.
It was not until Rob left that Joey came out of the bedroom. He walked to the balcony and saw the leaving figure, then he let out a sigh of relief.
<It seems that they already know that. We really couldn’t stay here any longer.>
At this thought, he had no patience to pack up his things carefully. He grabbed some clothes in a haste and promptly left with Anna.
In the villa, as soon as Janice and Christopher arrived home, Christopher’s phone rang. He saw that it was from Rob, so he stepped aside to answer the phone.
"Mr. Bateman, I’ve found Joey’s residence. However, he doesn’t seem to be here today. I’ll go and take a look tomorrow."
Christopher nodded and instructed, "Besides Joey, you have to see if he has a child with him."
Based on his understanding of Joey, he knew that Joey would keep the child with him at all times.
"Yes."
"In addition, send someone to Switzerland. I want to know every bit about Sophie’s three years there."
"Yes."
After hanging up the phone, Christopher worriedly thought, "Sophie would not let us easily find the child."
After thinking about it, he felt that he had to meet Joey personally.
Then he said to Janice, "I have to go out for a while. Stay at home and don’t run around."
