Chapter 238: Wanda, Stop Messing Around

Wanda sneered as she walked forward. She called out, "Nathan."

Nathan and Sophie were stunned at the same time when they heard this voice, and they almost looked over coincidentally. Both of them were dumbfounded when they saw Wanda standing nearby.

Especially, Nathan had tried to invite her back last time but to no avail. However, he never expected her to come back on her own.

"Wanda..."

Nathan stood up in disbelief.

Wanda stepped forward, her gaze sweeping across his face with ridicule before and then fell on Sophie’s face finally.

"What? Are you surprised to see me?"

Sophie’s face looked extremely ugly.

Last time, when Nathan picked up Wanda, Sophie deliberately followed them. As expected, Wanda did not come back after seeing her.

At that time, she was extremely happy, but she didn’t expect that Wanda would suddenly come back by herself.

However, in response to Wanda’s deliberate question, she hurriedly composed herself and said, "Of course not. Auntie, welcome home."

"Really? Do you really welcome me?"

Wanda stared at Sophie with her sharp gaze.

Sophie felt uncomfortable all over. She said, "Of course."

She averted her gaze, not daring to meet Wanda’s eyes.

Nathan noticed that there was something wrong with the atmosphere between the two of them, so he quickly interrupted and said, "Wanda, you haven’t come back for a long time. Go back to your room first and see if there’s anything you want to buy. I’ll go to my room to change as well."

Nathan reached out to grab Wanda’s hand, but Wanda dodged his grasp.

"No need. Who said I was coming back to live here?"

Nathan froze for a moment and said, "What? You aren’t going to come back?"

Wanda sneered. "Do you really wish me to come back that badly?"

Nathan nodded without hesitation.

Wanda couldn’t help but laugh and said, "It’s not impossible for me to come back, but are you willing to drive her out first?"

Nathan did not expect her to make such a request, so he glanced at Sophie subconsciously.

"Sophie, go back to your room first."

Sophie was stunned, and then she nodded. As she was about to turn around, Wanda grabbed her arm.

"You want to leave? I still have a score to settle with you."

Wanda narrowed her eyes grimly.

Wanda’s expression, however, made Sophie feel uncomfortable all over.

She knew how cruel Wanda was and knew that her sudden return would not be that simple. Thinking of this, she hurriedly pretended to look like she was in pain and said, "Auntie, that hurts. You’re hurting me."

"Is that so? Does it hurt?" Wanda said as she glanced at her arm sarcastically, " How come your arm is still as fragile as it was ten years ago?"

As Wanda spoke, she reached out and poked Sophie’s elbow as if she were doing a check-up. Then, she clicked her tongue.

"Don’t you already know how to plot against others? Why are you still so soft?"

"Auntie..."

Sophie bit her lip with a look of grievance.

Nathan couldn’t bear to watch any longer, so he stopped Wanda as he said, "Wanda, stop messing around."

"I’m messing around?"

Wanda was furious now. She turned to look at Nathan with eyes full of anger.

"Nathan, you said that to me ten years ago. I didn’t expect that after so many years, you still only have this one sentence to say to me. You’ve lived in vain in the past ten years, and you haven’t even learned any decent words to say."

As she spoke, she tightened her grip.

"Wanda!"

Their gazes confronted each other.

After a short while, Wanda finally shook off Sophie.

After being thrown off, Sophie stumbled.

Nathan stretched out his hand to hold her.

...

Sophie immediately crossed her arms and stood there with tears in her eyes. She looked very pitiful and made the others want to be protective of her.

Looking at this familiar scene, Wanda couldn’t help but find it ridiculous. It had already been ten years, but her acting skills were still the same.

"Sophie, it’s time for you to sign up for a training class to improve your poor acting skills." Wanda mocked.

Nathan became a little annoyed. He said, "Wanda, what exactly do you want to say? I’m very happy that you’ve come back, but every word you say never leaves the past behind. What exactly do you want?"

His words amused Wanda.

"Nathan, aren’t you the most nostalgic person? What’s wrong? Don’t you want to hear me talk about it?"

However, Nathan’s face was cold, and he didn’t speak.

Wanda only felt it was laughable. She had always known that he had double-standard when it came to being nostalgic.

She said, "All right. Since you don’t want to talk about the past, let’s talk about the recent events. I heard that you slapped Chris?"

Wanda unintentionally rotated her wrists as she spoke.

Nathan didn’t notice it and just took a step forward.

When it came to that matter, he knew that it was wrong of him to have done that.

After all, he was a little impulsive that day. After that, he felt bad in his heart, but he was still Christopher’s father, and he had his own dignity.

"I was a little impulsive that day, but it was also Chris’s fault."

"Is that so?"

"Slap!" As Wanda spoke, she turned around and gave Sophie a slap across her face.

Sophie was completely stunned, for she did not expect Wanda to do this all of a sudden. She stood there in a daze while covering her face.

Nathan froze as well. By the time he realized what had happened, Wanda had already withdrawn her hand and pretended that nothing had happened.

"What are you doing?"

Nathan was astonished.

Wanda patted the non-existent dust off her hands. "Being impulsive."

"How could you..."

"What? Only you are allowed to hit my son, but I can’t slap your daughter on impulse?" Wanda scoffed.

Nathan was furious, but he didn’t know what to say.

That slap was really hard. Sophie’s face was burning with pain, and she could not wait to rush over and tear Wanda apart. However, she had no choice but to take Nathan into consideration, so she could only cover her face and pretend to be pitiable.

"What? You look so hurt. Do you want to know why I slap you?"

Wanda admired Sophie for her endurance. Her palm had already hurt from that slap, but she was still able to endure the pain.

Sophie covered her face and remained silent, her eyes red. Wanda knew Sophie could bear it, so she cut the crap. "This slap is for my son."

As she said this, Wanda slapped Sophie on the other side of her face while Sophie was not paying attention.

"This slap is for my daughter-in-law, Janice. If you want to replace her, it will only happen in your dreams!"

"Enough!"

With a gloomy face, Nathan stepped forward, pulled Wanda’s arm, and threw her aside.

"Sophie, are you okay?"

He stepped forward to check the bruised mark on Sophie’s face.

Sophie, on the other hand, shook her head in a pitiable manner.

Nathan’s eyes were filled with heartache. He comforted Sophie before turning to look at Wanda. He said angrily, "You’ve gone too far!"

Wanda didn’t care about it at all. She just reached out to tidy up her sleeves that he had tugged and sarcastically said, "What’s wrong? Can’t you take it? Ten years ago, didn’t you say that I burned her with boiling water? I’m a vicious woman who just slapped her twice. And you can’t take it anymore?"

"You... For so many years, how come you still don’t repent?" Nathan’s face turned green with anger.

Wanda sneered as she said, "Repenting? Nathan, given what you’ve said, I want to do it for real."

As she spoke, her gaze fell on the boiling kettle on the coffee table.

...

Wanda practically didn’t hesitate before walking forward swiftly, and then she picked the kettle up before rushing towards Sophie.

Sophie’s face turned deathly pale when she saw this, and she hurriedly hid behind Nathan.

"Wanda, what the hell are you doing?"

Nathan was also shocked. He stepped forward and snatched the kettle from Wanda’s hand.

When her hands were empty, she became even angrier.

"Ten years ago, didn’t you say I burned her with boiling water? In my opinion, I’ve been the scapegoat for ten years, so I have to live up to the reputation. Otherwise, I wouldn’t deserve to be described as a vicious woman." Wanda gritted her teeth as she enunciated each word.

Nathan put the kettle aside, turned around, and said earnestly, "Wanda, it’s been so long since that matter. Why can’t you get over it?"

"No!" Wanda said, "Nathan, I thought you didn’t love me, so I left. But my son is your blood. How could you tolerate others hurting him? Is her daughter a human being while my son is not?"

Wanda’s eyes turned red.

Nathan rarely saw her like this. At that time, he felt very uncomfortable, so he closed his eyes.

"Wanda, I’ve never thought that way before. Sophie and Chris are equally important to me."

However, Wanda found it funny. She said, "Nathan, I think you’ve been so blind. In that case, you can keep Sophie to take care of you in your later years. And your son will have nothing to do with you in the future."

Wanda said as she turned around and left. However, then she seemed to have thought of something. She looked back and added, "By the way, my son and I will not give up a penny of our shares in the company. Just wait for a subpoena from the court."

Wanda coldly snorted and turned to leave.

Nathan was stunned for a moment, and then he hurriedly chased after her.

"Wanda... Listen to me..."

Wanda ignored him and headed straight to the door.

She thought, "It is time to end the marriage that has lasted for ten years."

When Christopher walked in, he saw Nathan and Wanda tugging at each other. His face looked ugly, and he quickly stepped forward. "Let go of my mother."

He went forward and forcefully pulled Nathan’s hand away, protecting Wanda behind him.

When Nathan saw Christopher’s action, his eyes flashed with hurt.

"Chris, do you think I’ll hurt your mom?"

Christopher shielded Wanda behind him and snorted. "Haven’t you hurt her enough?"

Looking at his vigilant son and wife in front of him, Nathan felt a sharp blow to his heart. He didn’t think he would be so lousy in the minds of his wife and son.

"Well, you can think whatever you want, but don’t mention the incident about Sophie ever again. I’m old, and I just want you all to be alright."

He sighed.

Christopher sneered. "As long as Sophie doesn’t get the punishment she deserves, we won’t be fine. No matter what reason you have to protect her, I won’t give up this time."

After saying that, Christopher pulled Wanda and was about to leave.

"Stop!" Nathan suddenly ordered.

Christopher stopped in his tracks.

"Are you really planning to look into this matter?" Nathan asked.

Christopher did not speak, and the firm expression on his face already explained everything.

Seeing this, Nathan nodded and stepped forward. He said, "As you’ve let the mother and the daughter down all these years, do you still want to send Sophie to jail again?"

"What mother and daughter?"

Christopher and Wanda almost spoke at the same time, with puzzled looks on their faces.
