Chapter 240: Is He Joey?

Janice was stunned. She was wondering if she should tell him about the child, but seeing how anxious he was, she decided to wait until he came back.

She nodded. "Go ahead."

Only then did he leave.

Not long after he left, Janice received a call from Lucy.

"Janice, do you have time to come out?"

Janice paused for a moment before asking, "What’s wrong?"

"I need your help."

Janice said, "Alright, send me the address."

Not long after, she arrived at the address that Lucy had sent her.

"Lucy."

"Hey, Janice. Come and take a look. See if this person is Sophie Valen."

Janice frowned at the photo. "It does look similar, but I’m not sure. Where does it come from?"

"It is from the police station, but the specific situation is not disclosed. They only asked our TV station to help register the missing person notice. I think the person looks a bit like Sophie, so I want to ask you."

Janice looked at the photo. Although the photo was old and extremely indistinct. It was possible to see some similarities from the person’s outline.

She paused for a moment before saying, "Why don’t I take this photo back and ask others?"

Lucy nodded.

"By the way, how’s your job in the magazine office? When are you going back to the news department? I don’t understand. Why did the chief arrange for you to work there?" Lucy said with pity.

However, Janice smiled. She knew that the reason was her pregnancy.

However, she had never mentioned this to Lucy.

Thus, she paused for a moment before saying, "I’m doing well in the magazine, and my colleagues are friendly. As for the news department, I might not be able to go back in the near future."

"Why?"

Janice smiled. "I’m going to be a mother."

"What? You... are pregnant?" Lucy asked in surprise.

Janice nodded.

How long have you been pregnant? Congratulations."

"More than three months."

"Don’t forget to invite me to the party when the baby is born."

"Definitely."

The two chatted for a while longer before parting.

When Janice returned, Christopher didn’t come back.

She went straight to the study to find some books to read, but she accidentally messed up the books on the shelf when she was looking for books.

She sighed and could only sort out the books one by one. However, something suddenly fell out of the book and onto the floor.

She briefly paused and bent down to pick it up. It was a photo.

She suddenly remembered that she had seen Christopher putting a photo inside the book before. "It should be this one," thought Janice.

She looked over curiously, and her eyes were immediately attracted by Christopher, who was wearing an academic uniform.

"He is so handsome in his academic uniform, even more handsome than usual casual clothes."

Janice couldn’t help but reveal an infatuated smile when she saw that face.

Her gaze fell on another person. "Why does this person look so familiar?"

She thought for a moment, and suddenly thought of something.

<It is him.

The uncle of the little girl I’ve met?

Is he Joey Charlie?>

Janice remembered that she saw Sophie standing next to him, and she suddenly understood.

"If he is Joey, then wouldn’t that child be... "

Thinking of this, she hurriedly took out her mobile phone to call Christopher.

...

However, somehow, the phone wasn’t answered.

She paused for a moment and then called Rob, but Rob didn’t answer either.

<Strange, why is no one answering?

Forget it. I’ll tell him when he comes back.>

Christopher arrived at the place Rob told him.

The two of them went to Joey’s residence again.

The door was still tightly shut. Rob stepped forward and pressed the doorbell.

However, no one opened the door.

At this time, a middle- aged woman came downstairs with a bag. When she saw them, she asked, "I’m the landlady here. Who are you looking for?"

Rob said, "We want to find our friend who lives there."

The landlord looked at them up and down and said, "He’s gone. He just left with his child."

Hearing this, both Rob and Christopher were stunned.

"Where did they go?" Rob hurriedly asked.

The landlord responded, "How would I know? Anyway, stop knocking on the door. You’ll wake up some of the residents."

After that, she went upstairs with her things.

Rob looked at Christopher and asked, "Mr. Bateman, should we send someone to find them now?"

Christopher paused for a moment and said, "He might know that we are looking for him. You send someone to guard the airport and train station and don’t let him run away."

"Yes, Sir."

Christopher returned to the car and saw that there was a missed call from Janice.

He frowned and dialed the number.

However, no one replied on the other end.

While he was wondering, Rob got in the car, saying, "Mr. Bateman, I just saw that Ms. Gladwell had called me before. But when I call back, she didn’t answer."

Hearing his words, Christopher’s eyes darkened, and then he ordered, "Take me back first."

"Yes." Rob replied.

Christopher returned home in a hurry, but he didn’t see Janice. His face instantly turned pale. "Did something happen?"

Recalling his mother’s reminder, he immediately picked up the phone. Just as he was about to call, Janice returned.

When he saw her coming back, he rushed over and hugged her. "Where have you been? Why didn’t you answer the phone?"

Janice was briefly stunned by the tense atmosphere. Then she raised the bag in her hand and said, "I went to the supermarket and bought something. It might be too noisy, so I didn’t hear my phone ring."

Only then did he heave a sigh of relief. He took the bag from her hand and asked, "You called me before. What’s the matter?"

Only then did Janice remember what she had discovered earlier. She said, "Wait a moment."

After that, she went into the study. Soon, she emerged with a photo.

"Is this person named Joey Charlie?"

She handed the photo to him.

Christopher took a look at it and nodded.

Janice thought, "So it really is him..."

She paused for a moment and said, "I have something to tell you."

"What is it?" Christopher put the photo aside and asked.

Janice looked at him and hesitated for a moment before saying, "Actually, I already knew why your father was helping Sophie."

Hearing this, Christopher looked at her.

Janice continued, "The day I went to find her, she told me that she gave birth to your child. I thought your father probably defended her because of it."

Hearing her words, Christopher stared at her without saying a word.

Janice thought he was angry and immediately explained, "I wasn’t hiding it from you on purpose. I didn’t tell you because I was afraid that you might feel uncomfortable about it."

As soon as she finished speaking, Christopher stepped forward and grabbed her hand.

"I’m not. But have you ever doubted me?"

...

Janice shook her head. "I know best what kind of person you are. If you really did something like that three years ago, you wouldn’t deny it. Also, if that child was really yours, Sophie wouldn’t have waited until now to tell me. So, I don’t believe her at all."

"Thank you, Janice."

Christopher held her in his arms, his heart full of gratification.

"By the way, I may have seen that child."

"Really? Have you seen her before?"

Christopher was confused.

Janice nodded. "The first time I saw that child was the time you disappeared from the hospital. At that time, I couldn’t find you, so I searched every hospital for you. Later, I met the child in one hospital. At that time, I felt that she looked familiar. Now that I realize it’s because she looks like Sophie."

"The second time I saw her was the time when you refused to see me. That day, I was in a bad mood, so I wandered on the street alone and met her by accident. By the way, Nino was found there. At that time, I should have thought that Sophie had something to do with this. After all, Nino had always been with her."

When Janice finished speaking calmly, she realized that Christopher was just looking at her without saying a word, as if there was something on her face.

She touched her face subconsciously. "What’s wrong? Why are you staring at me?"

Christopher didn’t speak. He stepped forward, held her little face in his hands, and kissed her on the lips.

This sudden kiss surprised Janice as she stood there stiffly, forgetting to respond.

After a long while, Christopher let go of her, but his eyes were still cloudy.

He didn’t know that Janice had suffered so much because of him during that period of time.

His heart ached at this moment.

"I’m sorry." He said in a deep voice.

Janice froze for a moment and then understood what he was referring to.

She had mentioned those things unintentionally just now, but she didn’t expect that

he would...

"Don’t say that. I’m just recalling the scene where I saw that child. Don’t think too much. It’s all in the past."

However, Christopher thought to himself, "For me, it isn’t past yet. In the future, I’ll make it up to you."

He slowly collected his mind. "I know that."

"You know?" Janice was surprised.

Christopher nodded. "I went to find him with Rob before. He has left with the child."

"Left? Where did they go?" Janice asked in confusion.

Christopher shook his head. "I have already asked Rob to send someone to look for them. I believe they will find the two soon."

Janice finally relaxed when she heard this.

"What are you going to do when you find them?"

Christopher said, "Do the paternity test."

Janice nodded. "That’s the most effective method."

"By the way, I have a photo here, and you can see if you can recognize the person inside."

As she spoke, she handed over another photo.

He took it and looked at it. "It’s too blurry, I can’t tell."

"Really? I feel that the person inside looks familiar."

"Familiar?"

Christopher frowned.

"Don’t you think that she looks like Sophie?" Janice asked.

Hearing her words, Christopher looked at the photo again. "It does look a little similar, but why do you have this photo?"

Janice responded, "Lucy gave it to me. She said that the police asked the TV station to send out a missing person notice. She also felt that the person was like Sophie, so she came to ask me."

"A missing person notices?"

Janice nodded.

"By the way, do you know if she still has other family members?"

He frowned and thought for a moment. "I don’t think so. Otherwise, my father wouldn’t have brought her back."
