Chapter 234: Sophie Valen, You’re Ruthless!
After all, he was following Janice secretly, including the time when she moved to the lakeside apartment.
However, Rob just watched from a distance and didn’t dare to go near her.
"Ms. Gladwell."
Janice went straight to the point.
"Rob, can I ask you something?"
"Please go ahead, Ms. Gladwell."
Rob nodded.
Janice pursed her lips before asking.
"Where did you go with Christopher yesterday?"
Rob wasn’t surprised by her question. He had already guessed it when he saw her.
After all, Mr. Bateman was injured.
He replied bashfully.
"Ms. Gladwell, you should ask Mr. Bateman about it."
Janice knew that Rob was tight-lipped, so she didn’t continue probing.
"Rob, I know you’re ordered by Christopher to not reveal anything. How about this, I’ll guess and you only need to nod or shake your head in response to me. This shouldn’t be a violation of Christopher’s orders, right?"
Rob did not agree, but he did not refuse either.
Janice took it as he agreed to it. She paused for a moment before asking, "Did you go to the Batemans yesterday?"
Rob hesitated for a moment before nodding.
"Does that have anything to do with me?" Janice continued to ask.
Rob hesitated again before nodding.
"Then let me guess. Is it related to Sophie?"
Rob hesitated before nodding again.
With that, Janice knew what had happened.
So it really was related to Sophie.
The only thing she didn’t understand was what matter could involve Nathan, Sophie, and Christopher together apart from Sophie and Christopher’s romantic relationship.
A thought popped in her mind and she asked Rob.
"By the way, there’s one more thing I want to ask you. I recalled that you mentioned it to me in the hospital. You said you found some updates to the matters Christopher asked you to investigate. It was regarding my detention. So what is it?"
"I..." Rob didn’t expect her to ask him about this. For a moment, he hesitated and didn’t know if he should tell her.
Janice saw through his worries and said to him.
"Tell me, I won’t tell Christopher. Besides, I’m the victim of this incident. I think I have the right to know."
Rob hesitated when he heard her. But, in the end, he still told her the truth. "It’s Miss Valen."
"Sophie Valen?"
Janice was in disbelief. She knew that Sophie wasn’t as nice as she seemed on the surface, but she never would’ve thought that Sophie would be so cruel to do something like this.
"What about the accident Christopher got into? It must have had something to do with her, right?"
Janice spoke affirmatively.
This time, Rob was silent.
Even though he didn’t give a definite answer, Janice knew that she had guessed correctly.
Lucy had analyzed these two matters clearly before.
So when she found out her detention was caused by Sophie, naturally, she would relate it to Christopher’s accident.
She thought to herself, "Sure enough."
Sophie Valen, you’re ruthless!
Janice couldn’t help but clench her fists tightly.
Not only had Sophie framed her, but she had also almost killed Christopher.
She would never forget the scene of him lying in the pool of blood.
No matter what, she had to settle this score with her.
With that thought, her expression grew dangerously cold. Then she told Rob.
"Thank you, Rob. I’ll be leaving first."
She turned around and left.
Rob stopped her. "Ms. Gladwell, Mr. Bateman will handle this matter. Don’t act rashly."
...
Janice thought to herself, "Christopher wouldn’t have been slapped if he can deal with Sophie. Maybe Nathan is still defending her."
She didn’t voice her doubts. Instead, she said, "Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing."
Although she said so, Rob was still a little worried. After she left, Rob quickly called Christopher.
"Mr. Bateman, Ms. Gladwell came just now. She already knew about Sophie."
On the other side of the phone, Christopher was immediately awake after he heard Rob.
After leaving the lakeside apartment, Janice went straight to Sophie’s pet center.
However, Sophie wasn’t there. After asking around, she found out that Sophie had not gone to work for several days.
While Janice was confused, she quickly realized that Sophie was probably hiding at home.
After all, with Sophie’s personality, she would definitely hold on to Nathan since she was exposed.
With that thought, she drove to the Bateman family’s old mansion.
On the way, she received a call from Christopher.
Janice glanced at her phone but she didn’t answer it. She knew, Christopher definitely found out that she went to look for Rob.
This time, she did not want to hide behind Christopher anymore. Until now, whenever there was trouble, Christopher was always the one protecting her.
She only understood when he was on the brink of death when he tried to save her.
No matter what, you are only able to love someone when you are strong and confident.
She loved Christopher, but she shouldn’t just hide behind him.
Now, it was time for her to step up.
With that thought in mind, she muted the call. Then she opened the door and got out of the car.
She stood at the entrance of the Bateman family’s old mansion and stare at the villa at a distance. It was as though the villa was beyond her reach.
"Christopher, I won’t let you take that slap for nothing, not even from your father."
With that, she strode in coldly.
"I want to see Sophie."
Uncle Charlie stopped her at the door.
Uncle Charlie knew why Janice was here. Honestly, he admired Janice and he was happy that Christopher had found such a lovable person to be his wife.
He heard about the incident that happened yesterday and was shocked. But at the same time, he didn’t understand why Nathan still wanted to defend Sophie.
After all, Christopher was his biological son. Although Nathan favored Miss Valen all these years, he had no reason to defend an outsider.
But in the end, he was just a servant and his words carried little weight.
Having reached this point in his train of thought, Uncle Charlie sighed.
"Janice, you should go home."
"I won’t leave until I see Sophie today," Janice said.
It seemed that she wouldn’t back out so easily.
Just as Uncle Charlie was hesitating, Sophie happened to walk downstairs. From the corner of her eye, she saw Janice outside the door. With a mocking smile, she went forward and said, "Uncle Charlie, let her in."
Uncle Charlie had no choice but to step aside.
Janice walked in.
Sophie turned around and sat down on the sofa, assuming the role of a host as she sneered at her, "Janice, aren’t you brave? How dare you come and look for me here?"
Janice was surprised yet suspicious when she saw Sophie’s calm demeanor. There wasn’t any trace of fear on her face.
How did she manage to persuade Nathan?
Was it because she was Nathan’s adopted daughter?
That couldn’t be.
"What’s wrong? You dare to enter the house, but you don’t dare to speak?"
Sophie mocked when she saw that Janice was standing in a daze.
...
Only then did Janice come back to her senses. As she looked at Sophie, who could still mock her without scruples, she suddenly felt that Sophie was truly terrifying.
After doing so many bad things and being exposed, she still acted as if nothing had happened.
She thought, "Has she lost her conscience?"
"Sophie, aren’t you afraid of being punished for all the bad things you’ve done?" she said with a little anger.
Hearing her say this, Sophie snickered. "Punishment? I don’t know what you are talking about."
She appreciated the manicure she had just done as if nothing had happened.
Janice clenched her fists and resisted the urge to punch Sophie. And she said, "Sophie, God is watching us. You’ve done all sorts of evil, and karma will come for you one day."
"Karma? Janice, how could you say such superstitious words as a reporter? Do you really think that there’s a God in this world?" Sophie scoffed.
"It doesn’t matter whether there is a god or not. What matters is one has a profound respect for God. If one doesn’t even have that, it means that you’ve crossed your bottom line as a human being long ago. Sophie, do you really think that we can’t do anything to you with Mr. Bateman protecting you?" Janice gritted her teeth as she said.
Hearing her say this, Sophie looked up and slowly stood up with a sneer. She walked in front of Janice and said, "You guys really can’t do anything to me, not even my brother. Do you know why?"
"Why?" asked Janice.
Sophie didn’t answer right away. Instead, she laughed recklessly before saying, "Because I got something on my brother. If it were to leak out, not only would my brother suffer, but the entire Bateman family would suffer as well."
Janice was stunned. "What did you say?"
Sophie was very satisfied with her reaction and immediately said, "To tell you the truth, as long as I have that child in my hands, the Bateman family will protect me. And no one can touch me."
"What child?"
"Oh, by the way, you only know that he slept with me three years ago, but you don’t know that I gave birth to his child, do you?"
Janice’s words were like a clap of thunder in the sky, stunning Janice. She stared at Sophie in disbelief.
"What? Are you scared?"
Sophie’s eyes swept past her dazed face and laughed smugly.
When the laughter reached Janice’s ears, she felt chills running through her body.
"Just relax! This is just a piece of cake. What’s even scarier is yet to come."
After saying that, Sophie laughed recklessly and turned around to walk upstairs.
Janice was left standing there. She felt as cold as if she had fallen into an ice cave.
"Janice."
As soon as Sophie went upstairs, Christopher arrived.
He had called her before, but she had not answered. He had been so anxious, and it was Uncle Charlie who had called him to tell him that she was here.
When he found out that she came to find Sophie alone, he was extremely worried about her.
When he saw her standing there without getting hurt, he finally heaved a sigh of relief. However, he still could not help but scold her.
"You’re still pregnant. Why are you looking for her? Let’s go home." He said as he went forward and took her hand to go out.
However, he saw her standing there without moving. He was stunned and looked back. Only then did he notice that something was wrong with her.
"What’s wrong?" He reached out and waved his hand in front of her eyes.
Only then did Janice come back to her senses. When she met his confused gaze, what Sophie had just said suddenly rang in her ears.
"You only know that he slept with me three years ago, but you don’t know that I gave birth to his child, do you?"
