Chapter 232: Marry If You’ve Found Someone Right

"Dad, it’s your calligraphy skills that are excellent. Look at these writings. They are even better than those written by some famous calligraphers in ancient times."

Nathan roared with laughter after he heard Sophie’s flattering words.

"You think too highly of me."

"Not at all. I’m telling the truth."

Sophie was full of praises.

Nathan was in a very good mood.

He wrote a few more letters before putting down the quill.

"It’s a pity that I’m old and my wrist is not strong enough. Look at these letters. They are not as beautiful as before."

Nathan sighed with regret.

Sophie, however, thought otherwise.

"Dad, look at you. You’re not old at all."

Nathan laughed helplessly. Suddenly, a thought struck him and he asked.

"Right, how are things over in the pet center?"

"It’s alright." Seeing that Nathan was in a good mood, Sophie hesitated for a moment before continuing, "Dad, I have something to tell you."

"What is it?"

As he spoke, Nathan took out a new piece of paper, spread it across the table, and continued writing.

Sophie paused for a moment and said.

"I want to buy the pet center."

Nathan stopped writing when he heard Sophie. "Oh? I thought you went there for fun. Looks like you’re serious about it."

Sophie nodded guiltily. "I want to work on it full-time."

Nathan was full of admiration when he heard Sophie.

"It’s good that you know what you want. Since you are interested in it, just do it."

Sophie breathed a sigh of relief once she heard Nathan. Initially, she thought that Nathan wouldn’t agree, so she decided to ask him again carefully. "Dad, would you really support me?"

Nathan replied, "Of course, if you need my help, just let me know."

Sophie murmured in her heart, "This is what I was waiting for!"

She paused for a moment before replying, "Dad, I need your help."

"Tell me, what do you need me to do?"

Nathan decided to stop writing and focused on Sophie.

Sophie felt guilty under his stare. After all, she only wanted to ask for money and her excuse of taking over the pet center was a lie. Nevertheless, she couldn’t tell him straight so she was thinking of what to reply to Nathan.

Nathan spoke.

"Do you have financial issues?"

Since Nathan had initiated the conversation, Sophie quickly continued, "Yes, it’s about money."

Nathan was silent. He put down the quill, took out a check from the drawer, and handed it to her. "Fill in the amount yourself."

Sophie was ecstatic when she saw the check. But she had to keep up with her image as a nice girl so she pretended to look troubled.

"Dad, this..."

"Take it." Nathan placed the check on her hand.

Sophie was overjoyed but she continued her act.

"I’ll think of it as I’ve borrowed it from you. I’ll pay you bonuses when the pet center’s business is good."

Nathan smiled.

"There’s no need for that. You can keep it as pocket money."

After that, he thought of something and continued, "Sophie, just get married if you meet someone right."

"Dad, what are you talking about?" Sophie was slightly embarrassed.

Nathan spoke seriously, "Sophie, I meant it. Don’t bother about Chris. It’s my fault. I couldn’t keep my promise."

Nathan sighed. From the moment he heard that Christopher and Janice had reconciled, he knew that it was over for Sophie.

...

He thought it through. Instead of breaking them up by force, it was better to let them do what they wanted instead. Moreover, he was too old to meddle in their business. He only had one son, and he couldn’t bear to lose him.

On the other hand, Sophie was not ready to accept reality. After so many setbacks, she knew that she didn’t stand a chance with Christopher anymore. However, it was a bitter pill to swallow coming from Nathan.

To her, this was what Nathan owed her.

She could say no to his favors, but he couldn’t reject her requests either.

But even though she was unhappy, she still tried to feign obedience. "Dad, I don’t blame you. I won’t get married in the future. I’ll stay with you for the rest of my life."

"Silly child, I can’t stay with you forever. I promised your mom that I would take good care of you."

"Dad, why did you mention my mom again?"

Sophie pretended to wipe away her non-existent tears as she spoke.

"If it weren’t for your mother, I would have died long ago." Nathan seemed to recall the past and sighed deeply. "Although you can’t become my daughter-in-law, you will still be my daughter in the future. This will never change."

"Dad..."

"Okay, let’s stop talking about this. Let’s continue to write."

Nathan ended the topic. As soon as he picked up his quill, Christopher came in.

He charged in hastily, stunning both Nathan and Sophie at the same time.

"Chris?"

Nathan looked over in astonishment.

Christopher was silent. He stood in front of the desk and gazed at Sophie coldly.

Sophie was surprised but she put down the quill and called Christopher with a smile.

"Chris."

"Not a word!"

Christopher interrupted her coldly.

Sophie felt wronged as she lowered her head and stood there miserably.

Nathan scolded angrily, "Why are you being so curt to Sophie? Don’t take it out on her. I’m the one you should be angry with. "

As he spoke, he placed the quill down.

Christopher snorted. "We’ll talk about it later. She’s the one I’m looking for now."

As he spoke, he gazed at Sophie coldly. "Do you want to talk here or are you coming with me?"

Sophie was puzzled as she didn’t know what Christopher meant.

"Here is fine, " Nathan said. "Sophie, don’t be afraid. I’ll stand up for you."

Nathan spoke. He ignored Sophie’s hesitation and dragged her to the sofa to sit down. Then, he spoke in a stern voice, "Tell me, I want to know what happened too."

Christopher couldn’t help but to sneer. "Well, get ready to hear about what she’s done."

With that, he looked at the door and ordered, "Come in."

Rob walked in slowly.

Sophie and Nathan paled at the sight of Rob.

Sophie was like a cat on the hot bricks, and she started to panic.

Nathan looked much calmer compared to Sophie’s panicked expression.

"What is it? Are you here to get even with me? Rob, it was my idea to drive you out of the company. This has nothing to do with Sophie. Direct your anger at me. "

Nathan snickered.

Before Rob could speak, Christopher continued, "Rob, tell us exactly what you found."

"Yes."

Rob then recounted how Sophie had plotted to frame Janice, and how Christopher was injured because of her failed scheme.

...

By the time Rob finished, Sophie was as pale as a ghost. What should she do?

They already knew everything! She was racking her brains, trying to think of an explanation.

Nathan spoke.

"Sophie, is what Rob said true?"

Sophie was already very flustered, but after she heard Nathan’s question, she became even more agitated.

"It’s not me, it’s not me. It must be a misunderstanding."

She denied it.

"Misunderstanding?"

Christopher thought it was ridiculous that Sophie had the guts to quibble at a time like this.

He would show her that it wasn’t a misunderstanding.

He sneered and reached out to Rob.

Rob understood his intention and passed him a leather bag.

Christopher took the leather bag and lifted it up.

"Tell me if it’s still a misunderstanding after reading these."

Then, he tossed the leather bag in front of Sophie.

Sophie was terrified and she trembled in shock. As everyone was watching her, she had no choice but to pick up the leather bag while trembling, yet she hesitated to open it.

After all, she had no idea what was inside.

It was not until she met Christopher’s sharp eyes that she had no choice but to open the bag with trembling hands. However, when she saw what was inside, her face turned pale instantly. She knew that she couldn’t quibble anymore, so she immediately knelt down in front of Nathan and cried.

"Dad, I didn’t mean it."

Nathan was suspicious at first, but his expression changed completely after Sophie’s actions.

Nathan reached out to take the leather bag. He looked shocked after he saw the pieces of evidence inside.

He glanced at Sophie with slight disbelief as he would never imagine that the usually

gentle and obedient Sophie would actually do such a ruthless thing.

"Sophie, did you really do this?"

Sophie knew that she couldn’t lose Nathan’s trust, so she cried and said.

"Dad, I didn’t do it on purpose. I just wanted Janice to back out. I didn’t expect this to happen, Dad..."

"Sophie, you silly girl! How can you do such a thing?" Nathan lamented. "Dad, I really didn’t do it on purpose."

As she spoke, she got up and ran to Christopher.

"Chris, I really didn’t do it on purpose. Please believe me!"

She reached out towards Christopher, but he dodged her hand coldly. "Explain it to the police."

Sophie was stunned when she heard Christopher. How could he send her to the police station?

"No, I can’t be sent to the police." With that thought, she turned around and went back to beg Nathan.

"Dad, save me. I don’t want to go to the police station."

"Sophie, you’ve gone too far."

Nathan chided.

"Dad, please save me for the sake of my mother."

Nathan wavered when he heard Sophie.

"Chris, look..."

Without waiting for him to finish, Christopher interrupted him coldly, "There’s no room for discussion."

As he spoke, he shot a look at Rob.

Rob understood his intention and went to stop Sophie. He dragged her towards the door, ignoring her struggles.

Sophie struggled free when they reached the door.

She quickly ran back and whispered to Nathan.

Nathan was stunned when he heard her.

"If you don’t believe me, you can send someone to investigate."

Sophie added as Nathan looked suspicious.

A look of determination flashed across Nathan’s face. He then stood up and told Christopher, "No one can take Sophie away as long as I’m here."
