Chapter 231: Mr. Bateman, Do You Remember Me?
Christopher nodded. "Okay."
After hanging up the phone, he walked back to Sam and said, "I’m sorry, I just received a call. Can you give Nino to me?"
Sam replied "Of course."
She was just about to pass Nino over when she suddenly remembered Janice’s explanation. She quickly retracted her hand and asked, "Aren’t you allergic to dogs?"
Christopher was stunned. "Who said I was?"
"Miss Gladwell."
Sam said, "The reason why you suddenly felt uncomfortable that day was because you were allergic to dogs, right?"
Christopher didn’t expect Janice to play such a trick.
He paused and said, "In fact, it’s not that serious. She’s exaggerating. Give me Nino."
He reached out his hand and said.
"No," Sam said with a smile, "since I promised Miss Gladwell to take care of Nino, I should be responsible. Well, let Miss Gladwell pick Nino up herself."
As Sam spoke, she turned around and carried Nino back to the room.
Seeing this, Christopher hurriedly stepped forward to stop her. "You really don’t have to do that. I’m really fine. Please give Nino to me."
"No."
Sam insisted.
The two of them began to argue.
At this moment, the door suddenly opened from the outside.
When Rob walked in and saw this scene, he couldn’t help but be stunned, especially when he saw Christopher.
Christopher also noticed Rob.
He was a little surprised, and didn’t even try to snatch Nino.
He just asked in confusion, "Rob? Why are you here?"
Upon hearing this, Rob was instantly stunned. He looked at Christopher incredulously and asked, "Mr. Bateman, do you remember me?"
Christopher frowned. "You’re my assistant, of course. How could I not remember you?"
Rob was overwhelmed by his unexpected words.
Back then, he heard that Mr. Bateman couldn’t even remember his own wife.
He thought that as a mere assistant, his boss naturally wouldn’t remember him.
As such, he didn’t dare take the risk of meeting Mr. Bateman, but he never thought that his boss would remember him.
Rob was a little excited.
"That’s great, Mr. Bateman. I heard you lost your memory and thought you wouldn’t remember me."
Christopher glanced at Rob and then at the picture frame hanging on the wall. He instantly understood.
"So, you’re the person who helped us move that day?"
Embarrassed, Rob nodded. "Guilty as charged."
Christopher’s face darkened. No wonder he felt that he looked familiar. It was really him.
However, he recalled that Rob had disappeared during this period and then suddenly reappeared.
He snorted and said, "Where have you been all this time? Who allowed you to resign?"
"I..."
Rob didn’t know where to start.
Christopher snorted.
"You’d better give me a reasonable explanation, or I’ll make you tell me."
Christopher walked to the sofa and sat down.
Seeing this, Rob nodded with a smile.
"Yes."
Seeing the situation, Sam hurriedly said, "You guys talk. I’ll make tea."
As she spoke, she led Nino away.
In the living room, Rob stood in front of the seated Christopher respectfully and told him what had happened to him some time ago.
It turned out that not long after Christopher ’s incident, Rob was targeted. He couldn’t stay in the company any longer, so he was forced to resign.
"Mr. Bateman, I wanted to go find you, but later, I heard rumors that you lost your memory and forgot a lot of people and things. You even forgot Miss Gladwell, so I didn’t dare to find you."
After Rob finished saying that, he stood rooted to the spot as if he was at Christopher’s mercy.
...
Christopher paused for a moment and said, "I won’t be pursuing this matter any further."
After all, he had lost his memory and forgotten a lot of things. Rob’s actions were only natural.
"Thank you, Mr. Bateman."
Rob was relieved, as though a heavy burden was lifted off his shoulders.
But Christopher narrowed his eyes dangerously.
"Looks like a lot of things had happened in the company when I was injured."
Rob nodded in response. Suddenly, a thought struck him.
"By the way, I’ve gotten some updates regarding the matter you had asked me to investigate before you were injured."
"Really? Who is it?"
Rob was about to respond.
Suddenly, Christopher’s cell phone rang, and Rob was interrupted, forcing him to stop the conversation.
Christopher picked up the phone. Rob didn’t know who was on the other end of the line. Christopher replied, "Okay, I’ll be right there."
Rob saw that Christopher turned serious after picking up the call, so he asked. "What happened, Mr. Bateman?"
Christopher put away his phone and glanced at Rob. "I’ll tell you in detail on the way. Now, come with me."
"Okay." Rob did not ask any more questions. He turned around and followed him to the door.
Sam had just finished making tea and was about to serve it. Seeing that the two of them were about to go out, she asked, "Are you going out?"
Rob nodded. "Yeah, I’m going out with Mr. Bateman."
"Oh."
Sam nodded.
Christopher was at the door when a thought suddenly came to him. Christopher walked to the door and suddenly remembered something. He turned to Sam and said," Please take care of Nino for me. By the way, don’t let my wife know that I came here today."
Sam paused for a moment before nodding her head in understanding.
Little did she know that right after Christopher and Rob left, Janice arrived at her house.
Sam was stunned when she saw Janice. She wondered if they had met downstairs. "Ms. Gladwell, why are you here?"
Janice saw Sam’s surprised look and thought that her presence was unwelcomed.
She explained.
"I came to fetch a document. I left it here when I moved last time. So I came here to fetch it and visit Nino. Is it alright?"
Sam replied, "Sure, why not? Of course, it’s alright. Please come in."
She moved away to allow Janice to step inside the house.
Janice nodded. Then she removed her shoes and went inside the house.
This was the first time she had entered Sam’s house. She had never entered her house before this as she had always stood outside Sam’s house.
She realized that even though they were neighbors, the layout of Sam’s house was completely different from hers. She glanced around and realized that Sam’s house was at least half the size of her house.
"Take a seat."
Sam glanced at the cups that she hadn’t put away in time, feeling a little anxious.
"I’ll get you a glass of water."
As she spoke, she was about to turn around when Janice said, "Don’t worry about it. I’m just going to take a look at Nino before leaving. Right, is your brother here? I haven’t had the time to thank him for the incident last time."
Sam replied, "No worries, it’s no bother at all."
"No, he helped me a lot. How about this? When Christopher recovers, we’ll treat you and your brother to a meal. You must come."
Sam felt guilty as she heard Janice. After all, her brother had already met Christopher.
And she also promised Mr. Bateman to keep it a secret.
Would Janice blame her if she found out?
So she quickly changed the topic and said, "I’ll go and get Nino."
"Okay."
Janice didn’t notice her strange behavior.
Subconsciously, she glanced around the house.
The house was cozy even though it wasn’t big.
Especially the photo wall behind the sofa, the pictures looked very homey.
However, in the next moment, her gaze was fixated on one of the pictures.
...
Sam came out with Nino in her arms. She panicked when she saw Janice staring at Rob’s photo.
She hurried forward and called out, "Ms. Gladwell."
Janice turned around after she heard Sam’s voice. She asked, "Is the person in the photo named Rob Hanson?"
Initially, Sam wanted to change the topic. But she froze after she heard Janice.
"I’m doomed. The secret is out," She thought.
At this time, some muscular men stood guard in an abandoned factory in the suburbs. The fugitives they had apprehended were been detained inside.
Some of them had their hands and feet tied, and there were different injuries on their bodies.
They were wailing in pain when Christopher and Rob arrived. "Please let us go. Tell me how much money you want. I’ll pay!"
Hearing their cries, one of the muscular men stepped forward and stopped them. "Money is nothing to us. If you want us to let you go, you’ll have to ask Mr. Bateman first."
As he spoke, the man moved aside.
"Mr. Bateman, please."
Christopher walked past the man and took a step forward. Then he looked at the flustered men condescendingly.
It seemed that they had been roughed up quite a bit.
He retracted his cold gaze and threw a look at Rob.
On the way here, he recounted the story to Rob.
Rob understood Christopher’s intention and took a step forward.
Christopher retreated to the side.
"Who ordered you to kidnap her? Tell me!"
Rob walked over and stared at the men menacingly.
The men couldn’t help but shiver when they heard Rob’s intimidating voice.
They all shook their heads helplessly.
"Not me."
"Not me, either."
Seeing this, Rob chuckled and his lips curled into a devilish grin. "Looks like you won’t be convinced until I do some persuading. In that case, I won’t need to be so considerate anymore. I heard that the police have been looking for you guys for quite a while. Looks like I should direct them your way."
The men panicked when they heard Rob. After all, none of them wanted to go to prison.
"No, please don’t. We’ll tell you."
"Alright, tell me, who instructed you to do this?"
Rob questioned.
"It’s... a woman."
"A woman?" Rob frowned. "What’s her name?"
"We don’t know. We communicated through the phone, and she was the one who called us."
"What about the phone number?" Rob asked.
The man told him the number.
Rob wrote the number and went over to Christopher.
Christopher ordered, "Investigate."
"Yes."
Not long after, Rob reported, "Mr. Bateman, the number belongs to Miss Valen. There’s still a record even though the number was deleted."
"So it’s her?"
Christopher paused for a moment when he heard that the number belonged to Sophie. But he wasn’t too surprised.
Rob continued, "Mr. Bateman, regarding the matter I told you earlier? That was related to Miss Valen too."
Christopher wasn’t surprised. After all, he knew that these two matters were related to each other.
He just didn’t expect Sophie to be so ruthless.
She tried again after she failed. It was obvious that she wanted to take Janice’s life.
He narrowed his eyes menacingly at the thought of this.
"Let’s go."
Suddenly, he took a step forward.
Rob quickly walked and catch up with him.
"Where are we going?"
Christopher replied, "You reap what you sow. It’s time to get even."
As he spoke, he opened the door and got in the car.
In the Bateman family’s old mansion, inside the study.
Sophie was sharpening a quill. Nathan loved watching her as she sliced through the quill skillfully.
"Sophie, your quills are the best. My calligraphy is the best when I use your quills."
