Chapter 230: What’s Going On?
After all, when she left, she only brought a few pieces of clothing.
But when packing up, she found that there was far more than she had imagined.
She sat there and looked at Christopher packing her things. She had already turned on the air-conditioning, yet his forehead was covered with sweat.
Her heart ached.
"Are you tired? Sit down and have some water."
Janice poured a cup of water and handed it over to Christopher, wiping his sweat with a towel.
Christopher gulped it down and said, "I’m not tired."
Janice felt helpless. If she had known, she wouldn’t have bought so many things.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Janice stood up to open the door and found Sam outside.
"I heard movement just now, so I came to check things out. Are you moving?"
Sam asked.
Janice glanced at the messy room behind her and said, "I’ll be moving out."
"Then, will you come back again in the future?", Sam asked.
Janice hadn’t thought about returning, but from now on, she would treat this place as her maiden home. If she had any conflicts with Christopher in the future, she could come and live here for a few days.
"Maybe."
She said with a smile.
However, as soon as she finished speaking, Christopher retorted.
"No, she won’t come back again."
Hearing his firm words, Janice couldn’t help but say, "Who said so? If you were to make me unhappy in the future, I will return to live here."
"I won’t make you unhappy. I’ll give in to you in the future."
Sam’s original intentions was to find out what was going on and ended up getting a display of affection.
"You have so many things. Do you want me to help? By the way, my brother is free, I’ll ask him to come help too."
Sam said enthusiastically.
How could Janice trouble him? She immediately refused, "No need, it’s too troublesome."
"It’s not troublesome. Anyway, he has nothing to do now."
Without waiting for Janice’s consent, Sam called her younger brother over.
Janice could not refuse Janice’s intention. However, when she saw who the brother was, he froze.
Although he was wearing a mask so that his whole face could not be seen, his exposed eyes were particularly familiar, as if she had seen them somewhere, but she could not recall.
Janice thought that they might have seen each other around in the community. After all, he was Sam’s brother, so it was normal for him to come here.
So she merely said, "Then I’ll have to trouble you." He didn’t speak, only nodded and walked in. "Let me do it."
After that, he nimbly took the things from Christopher and carried them on his shoulder.
Christopher narrowed his eyes as he looked at the man’s retreating back.
"By the way, I almost forgot about Nino."
It wasn’t until everything had been moved out that Janice remembered Nino.
When she went to work, she was afraid of Nino running around, so she had locked him in the small room inside.
"Nino?" Christopher was surprised.
"Have you forgotten that he’s a member of our family?" Janice explained as she walked in.
Just as Christopher was thinking about her words, he saw Janice coming out with a white Alaskan dog in her arms.
Was that dog Nino?
Christopher couldn’t help but look closer, and inexplicably, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his head.
He quickly hugged his head.
"What’s wrong?"
When Janice saw his reaction, she was startled. She immediately put down Nino and went to take a look.
...
Christopher looked extremely stiff, and his hands were cold, as if he had suffered an electric shock.
Janice panicked at the sight of this.
At this moment, Sam and her brother walked in and went up to them.
"What’s going on?"
Sam asked.
"I don’t know either." Janice glanced at Sam. "Can I trouble you to take care of this dog for me? I’ll take Christopher to the hospital."
"Of course."
Sam said.
"I’ll go with you.", offered Sam’s brother.
Janice needed help so she didn’t stand on ceremony.
The two of them helped Christopher into the car. Sam’s brother drove while Janice sat in the back seat to take care of Christopher. The car sped all the way to the hospital.
"Doctor, what’s wrong with him? He was fine just now. Why did he suddenly become like this?"
In the consultation room, Janice asked anxiously.
The attending doctor was familiar with Christopher’s condition. After listening to Janice’s description of his symptoms, he said, "Mr. Bateman must have been stimulated by something. It may have something to do with his amnesia. Please think about what just happened carefully. Did you provoke him just now? Maybe you can think in this direction."
Janice thought hard, but there wasn’t anything special about what happened earlier.
If there had to be one, it would be Nino.
Could it be Nino then?
"But I just saw him feeling very uncomfortable. Did his old injury recur?"
Janice was still worried.
The doctor comforted her. "I’ve had his wound examined. It’s recovering well, so you don’t have to worry about that. If you’re concerned, you can come back for a detailed examination in a few days."
In the end, Janice relaxed under the doctor’s assurance.
Back in the car, she asked Christopher "Are you still feeling unwell?" Christopher shook his head, recalling what the doctor had said before.
"Does it mean that as long as I am in contact with Nino, I can remember what happened in the past?"
"The doctor only said there was such a possibility, but I don’t want you to see Nino anymore."
"Why? Haven’t you always wanted me to regain my memories?"
Janice was silent. She wanted Christopher to regain his memories, but on the other hand, she was not willing to see Christopher in pain.
Just now, she had seen how much pain it caused Christopher.
"Christopher, listen to me. Compared with those memories, I don’t want you to be in pain again. We are very good now. It doesn’t matter whether we have those memories or not, really."
Janice held his hand.
Christopher did not speak and only held her hand.
Even though he heard Janice, he felt that it was still necessary to recover his memories.
He no longer rejected the past that sounded ridiculous because he was deeply in love with Janice.
Moreover, he also wanted to have the same memories as her.
He made a silent decision, but he didn’t tell Janice his true thoughts.
Because he was uncomfortable, Janice asked Sam’s brother to drive directly back to the villa.
"I’ll have to trouble you and your sister for the next two days. I’ll pick up Nino in a few days."
Janice helped Christopher into the house after entrusting Nino.
After they left, Sam’s brother silently took off his mask and showed his face.
"Robbie, how is your boss?"
After her brother arrived home, Sam hurriedly asked.
"Sis, don’t call me Robbie. I’ve grown up."
Sam said, "You grew up but you’re still my younger brother. Why? Haven’t you made it clear to your boss yet?"
...
"It’s not the right time."
Rob Hanson glanced at Nino, who was lying obediently on the floor, thinking about Christopher’s reaction.
It turned out that Christopher’s memory hadn’t recovered yet and he couldn’t take the risk for the time being.
After Janice took Christopher back home, she carefully took care of him as if he were a patient.
She forbade him to touch or do anything.
Christopher was really a little helpless.
"The doctor said I’m fine."
"That won’t do. You have to rest well now, what if your old wound relapses?" Janice disagreed.
Seeing that he couldn’t persuade her, Christopher didn’t say anything more.
He was treated as a patient for two days.
It came to Monday.
Janice had to go to work, and before she left, she reminded him to rest well at home.
Christopher agreed, but after Janice left, he drove to the villa by the lake.
He went to Sam’s house and rang the doorbell.
After a while, the door opened.
Sam poked her head out of the door and was stunned when she saw Christopher standing outside the door.
"Mr. Bateman, what are you doing here?"
Christopher paused and said, "I’m here to pick up Nino."
Sam was puzzled.
"Didn’t Janice say that she would come to pick Nino up in two days?"
"Oh, she changed her mind at the last minute."
Christopher said a little unnaturally.
Sam did not ask further. She moved aside and said, "Come in first. I’ll clean up." Christopher nodded and walked in.
This was a small two-bedroom apartment, completely different from Janice’s.
Sam poured him a glass of water. She said with some embarrassment, "It’s a little messy. Please take a seat. I’ll go and take Fanny out now."
As she spoke, she turned around and left.
Christopher stood there and put down the glass of water, he did not like to use other people’s things. When he looked up, he saw a photo frame hanging on the wall.
It was probably Sam and her family in the photo frame. His eyes fell on a young man in the photo. The young man was wearing a blue school uniform. He stood straight and looked very young.
However, for some reason, he felt that this young man looked familiar.
At this time, Sam came out of the room with Nino in her arms. When she saw Christopher staring at the photo on the wall, she paused before she walked forward.
"That photo was taken when my younger brother was in his teens."
Christopher returned to his senses. He felt that he had pried into someone else’s privacy, so he looked away awkwardly.
Sam stared at his expression and paused for a moment before asking, "Mr. Bateman, do you have a sense of deja vu?"
Hearing this, Christopher was stunned. "I do indeed feel a little bit of deja vu. However, I should be mistaken."
A hint of regret flashed across Sam’s face, but she didn’t say anything else. She handed Nino over.
Christopher hurriedly reached out to pick them up, but before he could do that, his phone rang.
It was Janice calling, probably to check up on him.
Christopher signaled to Sam and walked to the side to answer the phone.
"Hello..."
On the other end, Janice tidied up the documents in his hands and asked, "How are you? Do you feel bored?"
Christopher replied with a guilty conscience, "Pretty... Pretty good."
"That’s good. I’ll bring you delicious food when I get home during my lunch break. Remember, don’t enter the kitchen, okay?"
Janice did not doubt him.
