Chapter 183: Caught In A Crisis
Janice’s first reaction upon hearing the knocks on the door was to call for help. But before she could do so, a rag was stuffed into her mouth.
She couldn’t make any sound.
The man glanced outside the door warily, then gave Janice a fierce warning. "Stay put."
After warning Janice, the man turned and walked out. The door was closed and the room returned to darkness.
Soon, a voice came from outside the door.
"Where is she?"
"Inside."
"Very well, you all can leave."
"That won’t do. You have to tell the Valen woman that we’ve got her."
Their conversation wasn’t loud, but it was enough for Janice to hear.
However, she could no longer hear what was said after that.
Sometime later, the door was opened once more. This time, a short bald man walked in.
As soon as he entered the room, he dragged her up from the ground and walked straight out without saying a word.
As a strong light shone in, she was dragged into a bright room.
The harsh light made her close her eyes tightly. When she reopened them, she saw many dog cages in the room. They were stacked up layer by layer. At a glance, there were at least a hundred of them.
Each dog cage was filled with dogs.
Those dogs were staring at her with their big round eyes, either whimpering or howling in pain.
Their eyes were filled with tears.
As if they were praying to her for help.
Janice felt suffocated.
What sort of place was this?
An ominous premonition filled the air, and the answer seemed to be at hand.
She couldn’t imagine it.
Suddenly the door was opened, and several tall and strong men came in. They all looked fierce and seemed to have bad intentions on their minds.
Janice stepped back instinctively.
Those people were approaching step by step.
"What’s wrong? Are you afraid now? Aren’t you going to investigate us?"
The leader said with a sneer.
"Bro, there’s no need to waste time with her. She was the one who ruined our plans and called the police."
"Right. brother, just kill her."
"Killing her? No, I’ll make her beg for death today."
The leader smiled evilly and said to Janice, "I heard that you’re a reporter who wants to investigate us?"
He moved toward Janice, his ferocious face made her shaking her head in horror.
"Don’t be afraid. It’s just an interview, isn’t it? How can we embarrass you for such a simple thing?"
After saying that, the guy signaled his men with his eyes. Someone then stepped forward and untied the ropes and rags on her body.
She regained freedom in an instant, air entered her mouth, and she couldn’t help but cough violently. She then looking fearfully at the few people in front of her.
"What... what are you going to do?"
"Do what? That’s a good question."
The leader stepped forward with a sneer. Soon after, someone walked forward with a dog in his arms.
Janice gaze carefully, that dog was Nino.
In an instant, she rushed forward excitedly, and snatched Nino from the man’s hand.
Seeing her like this, the men burst into laughter.
...
That laughter made her felt uncomfortable.
Janice hugged Nino and crouched at the side. In front of these people, she and Nino appeared exceptionally weak.
After a burst of laughter, the leader gave an order.
Immediately, someone came forward and took Nino from her arms.
Janice refused to let go, but she was pushed to the ground for her efforts.
There was something wet on the ground. She felt that her hands were stained with something dirty. Her face turned pale when she saw the blood on her hands.
"What is this?" She cried out in horror.
"You’ll know soon enough."
They spread out as they spoke. Some were boiling water on a stove, others sharpening their blades.
There were even people waving knives in front of her. "Take a good look. I’ll do a live broadcast for you now."
The guy grabbed her by the shoulder and dragged her to the side of a large wooden barrel before lifting its lid.
Along with a stench that was ten times worse than the previous one, many animals’ organs and flesh were reflected in her vision.
Janice couldn’t hold it in anymore. She shook off the man’s hand and ran to the side to vomit.
She had been a reporter for three years and had seen all kinds of awful things, but she had never seen anything like this.
She almost threw up her intestines.
"What’s wrong? Can’t you stand this? I’ll let you see how we kill this dog later."
Janice was stunned when she heard this.
Her eyes were swollen and filled with disbelief as she stared at the man talking.
How could they be so inhumane?
Suddenly, a sound of fighting came from outside and a young man rushed in.
"Boss, someone is coming from outside."
"How many people?"
"Just one."
"What’s there to be afraid of? Go and settle it."
The leader’s face was full of disdain. However, as he finished speaking, the door was open by a strong force.
Dazzling light spilled over. At the door, a tall figure came against the light, like a hero in a movie.
A face hidden in the light was getting clearer, and that person was none other than Christopher.
When Janice saw him, tears rolled down her cheeks uncontrollably.
Christopher also saw her. Her hair was messy, and her body was full of vomit, looking terrible.
Christopher was enraged when he saw Janice like this, and his punches became even more fierce.
The leader didn’t expect him to be so good at fighting, and they quickly surrounded him.
Instantly, they started fighting.
However, they couldn’t stop Christopher. He broke free from them and came to Janice.
"Are you okay?" He asked worriedly.
Janice was frightened and could barely talk. She only shook her head robotically in response.
"I’ll take you out of here." Christopher was a little relaxed.
Christopher grabbed her hand and put her behind him. Ignoring the people in front of him, walking towards the door.
"Don’t let them leave." The leader ordered.
Several men swiftly surrounded them in the middle.
Looking their advantage in numbers, Janice persuaded, "Hubby, just leave me, there’s too many of them."
...
She had witnessed the viciousness of these people.
"We will leave together." Christopher replied.
Everyone who tried to brawl with him was beaten down.
Soon, all the aggressors lay bruised on the ground.
The leader was left alone. When he saw that all his men down, he was scared and didn’t dare to go forward.
Christopher didn’t even look at such a coward. He held Janice and walked toward the door.
However, the moment they stepped out of the threshold, the man behind them rushed forward with a long knife in his hand.
It was already too late when Christopher saw that. He could only block the attack for Janice.
The knife stabbed into his back, and blood immediately flowed out.
The man probably didn’t expect that he would bleed so much, so he jumped back in a panic.
Janice was tightly held in Christopher’s arms, she didn’t know what was going on.
She felt all his weight was on her back.
She called out softly, "Hubby..."
However, there was no response from the person behind her.
Some liquid flowed down her neck and dripped onto the back of her hand.
She was stunned and realized something. Just as she was about to turn around, she was blocked by Christopher’s arms.
"Don’t... look back..." He spoke with difficulty.
He slowly reached into his pocket and took out an exquisite box.
"This... is... for... you..."
Janice wasn’t in the mood to accept a gift. She just wanted to turn around and see what had happened. But Christophe was very stubborn.
The gift box was in front of her. It seemed that he wouldn’t give up until she took it.
Janice could only accept it. She ignored his obstruction and turned around. His white shirt became red completely.
She was shocked.
"Honey... you’re injured... I’ll call an ambulance."
As she spoke, she was looking for her phone in confusion. She then realized all her devices were confiscated.
She could only look for his phone. Janice’s hands were trembling when she saw the blood all over his body. Her heart was aching as if she was in great pain.
"Stop, just listen to me..." Christopher grabbed her hands.
Janice’s vision was blurred by tears.
"No, I don’t want to hear anything. I want to take you to the hospital." She shook her head defiantly.
Her eyes were filled with panic and tears continued to roll down her cheeks.
Christopher used all his strength to hold her in his arms. He wanted to hug her tightly, but his body was too cold to move. He could only feel the warmth of her body.
Christopher realized that the relationship between him and Janice was love.
He didn’t know what she was thinking, but for him, it was pure love.
Yes, he loved Janice. He had understood that when he blocked the strike for her.
He was willing to protect this woman with his life.
Thinking of this, a gratified smile slowly appeared on his pale lips.
"I... love... you..."
He used all his strength to say this.
He fell down on her shoulder after he finished his sentence.
"No!" As he fell, a loud cry tore through the house.
