Chapter 182: Nino Disappears
She checked the time and walked to the back of the line.
In front of her was a middle-aged man wearing sunglasses.
Just as Janice walked behind that person, Nino jumped down from her arms as if it was frightened.
Janice was startled when she saw that. She let out a sigh of relief when she found out that Nino wasn’t injured.
She squatted down and tried to carry Nino from the ground. She didn’t know what was going on, but Nino didn’t cooperate at all.
Janice didn’t think too much about it. She thought Nino wasn’t used to an unfamiliar environment.
Seeing that it was only walking around her feet and didn’t run around, she decided to leave the dog be.
When Janice stood up, she saw the sunglasses man turned and staring at her.
After making eye contact with her, he turned back in a hurry.
Janice felt that this person was a bit odd, but she didn’t think too much about it and continued queuing.
She stepped forward and consulted the receptionist at the front desk when the sunglasses-wearing man left.
However, when she finished asking, she found that Nino was gone.
She tried to look around but didn’t find Nino.
"Strange, it was here just a moment ago. How did it disappear in the blink of an eye?"
"Nino..."
Janice looked around the store but didn’t find anything, so she walked out. Until she had searched the whole area and didn’t see Nino’s figure that she realized something was wrong.
Nino had always been very well-behaved and wouldn’t go anywhere.
Moreover, when it was at the TV station, it didn’t run anywhere.
Why did it disappear in this place?
Janice felt that this matter was not simple and immediately returned to the store.
Christopher arrived at the repair store 10 minutes later.
He couldn’t find Janice inside, so he made a call. However, he only heard a system voice.
"Did her phone run out of juice?"
Christopher frowned and wondering. "Weird, where did she go? Didn’t we agree to meet here?"
As he was wondering, a staff member approached him. "Excuse me, are you Mr. Bateman?" "Yes, I am." Christopher nodded.
Hearing that, the staff him a slip of note and said, "A lady just asked me to give this to you."
Christopher reached out to take the note and found that it was written by Janice. It said: "Hubby, Nino is missing. I’m going out to look for her. Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon."
Christopher caught up with the staff and hurrily asked, "When did she write this?"
"Then which direction did she go?"
"Probably over there..." He thought for a moment and pointed to a direction.
As soon as he finished speaking, Christopher vanished.
The staff shrugged and returned to his work.
Christopher searched in the direction that the staff had pointed out, but didn’t find Janice.
"Where did she go?" He frowned.
While Christopher was worrying, his phone suddenly rang.
He picked up the call from Rob.
"Mr. Bateman, we found those two people. They were in contact with a pet store."
"A pet store?" Christopher was puzzled.
"This pet store is located in the suburbs. It hasn’t been open for long and has a dubious owner. We haven’t found out his identity yet." Rob continued.
Christopher was focused on Janice right now and didn’t have much energy to deal with this matter.
...
"Tell them to continue investigating. I have something urgent here. I’ll hang up first." Christopher replied.
He hung up the phone, but his mind was in a mess.
Where did Janice go?
For some reason, a trace of uneasiness suddenly rose in his heart, as if something was about to happen.
He turned to the car shop immediately and asked the manager to show him the surveillance video of that time.
He had discovered from the video that Janice left after watching the surveillance footage.
He then asked the manager to show him the video she watched. In the video, Nino was following a man wearing sunglasses. "Who is this man? Is he a customer here?"
The store manager carefully examined the man, and asked the service desk to check the appointments list.
He realized that this person wasn’t on the customer list.
He wasn’t a customer, but why did he appear here?
Christopher frowned and stared at the figure on the screen. He suddenly thought of something and said, "Let’s see from the beginning."
The manager dragged the video backward according to his instruction. They realized the man was following Janice to the store, just that she had not noticed it.
When Christopher saw this, he immediately thought of something.
His face paled and he immediately made a call while he walking out.
During a jewelry shop, Rob was accompanying Amelia to inspect the outlets of Eternal Jewelry. Suddenly, his phone rang. He walked aside to answer the phone.
"Mr. Bateman."
"Rob, Janice is missing. Ask your men to find those two people now."
Christopher’s anxious voice came from the other end of the line.
Rob was very familiar with Christopher’s character. He had always been calm in difficult situations. This time however, he seemed to oddly flustered.
He didn’t hesitate and immediately responded. He called the people who were tailing them according to Christopher’s words. After that, he turned around and was about to tell Amelia about the matter.
Before he talked, Amelia sensed something and asked, "What’s wrong? Whose call?"
"Mr. Bateman just called and said that Ms. Gladwell has disappeared," Rob replied truthfully.
"Disappeared?" Amelia didn’t quite understand the meaning of "disappeared".
Rob didn’t have time to explain and could only say, "Mr. Bateman suspects that Ms. Gladwell was kidnapped."
"Have you called the police then?" Amelia startled.
Rob shook his head. "This is just Mr. Bateman’s guess, and the police need the person to be missing for 24 hours before they can file a case."
Upon hearing this, Amelia became anxious. "Then what are you waiting for? Let’s go and find her together."
As she spoke, she turned around and was about to leave.
However, Rob stopped her. "Chairwoman, I can handle this. You won’t be much help even if you go. You’d better stay here and wait for my update."
Amelia thought for a moment and nodded. "Alright, notify me if you got anything."
"Okay."
Rob turned around and left briskly.
After he left, Amelia had lost the mood to continue inspecting. She took a taxi back to the villa.
Old Mr. Allson frowned when he saw Amelia return with a solemn expression. "What’s wrong? Aren’t you attending a jewelry exhibition? Didn’t get anything you like?"
...
Amelia glanced at her father’s pale face. She knew that he should not get agitated due to his condition. So she chose not to tell him about Janice’s disappearance. Instead, she said, "Nothing. I’m just a little tired. I’ll be fine after a short rest."
Old Mr. Allson paid no mind to it and instructed her to rest upstairs.
Amelia didn’t decline and called Christopher after returning to her room.
"Son, how is it? Have you found Janice?"
When Christopher received her call, he was parking at the entrance of an alley.
Previously, he had asked Rob to get the surveillance video of nearby roads from the police station. He discovered that Janice had been dragged into a van.
The van was driving toward the suburbs.
After driving for a while, it disappeared.
Christopher was at the place where the van disappeared.
There was a rural area in Tomaville which about to be developed. Most of the buildings here had been demolished, leaving only a few dilapidated houses.
Those houses were located within an alley.
The alley had a narrow entrance that was blocked by bricks and tiles. Christopher’s car couldn’t drive in at all, so he could only park the car outside the alley.
"I found something." He comforted anxious Amelia over the phone.
He hung up the phone without saying anything else in detail.
After Christopher kept his phone, he opened the car door and got out.
He stood at the entrance of the alley, observed the surroundings carefully, then walked toward the alley.
On the other side.
When Janice woke up, she found herself in an unfamiliar location with low visibility.
She could only vaguely see that she was in a room.
Furthermore, it was a very shabby room.
The entire space smelled like rotten wood.
She wanted to get up and look around, but both her hands and feet were tied with ropes. There was even a sharp pain ringing in her head.
Only then did she remember what had happened just now.
After watching the surveillance video, she followed Nino’s direction, trying to find it. However, as soon as she reached the entrance of an alley, she was attacked from
behind.
When she woke up, she was already here.
She had no idea where she was at.
"Is anyone here?" Janice yelled.
"Shut up!"
A wooden door creaked open from the outside. Along with the entrance of a tall man, an extremely unpleasant stench assaulted her nose. She was about to throw up from this rotten meat smell.
Janice vomited a few times uncontrollably, but nothing was spat out. She felt terrible.
A pair of black pointed leather shoes stepped over. They were covered with mud.
Janice looked upward, and a sinister face appeared in her sight.
"Let me go! Who are you people? Why did you bring me here?" She said while struggling helplessly against the ropes.
"Look who I am." The man said.
He bent down and moved his face closer.
Janice finally realize that he was one of the two people who tried to catch her earlier on.
"It’s you?"
"That’s right, you escaped this morning. Now you are back."
The man laughed grimly.
Seeing his action, Janice instantly calmed down and asked, "What are you guys trying to do?"
"Don’t worry. You’ll know when those people come." Right after he finished speaking. Someone knocked on the door.
