Chapter 2938 - The Wangshu Jade Pendant

Heavenly Monarch Shui Ni had a pleading look on her face. Granny Snake was visibly enraged, while Lian Yue pursed her lips but said nothing.

These three starkly different reactions reflected their starkly different mentalities.

Su Yi took all of this in, but he just looked at Heavenly Monarch Shui Ni and said, “Leave on your own.”

Heavenly Monarch Shui Ni’s heart sank. Doesn’t that mean that he has no intention of letting Granny Snake or the Young Mistress go?

Granny Snake’s expression darkened. “Su Yi, this old woman in no way appreciates what Shui Ni has done here, and I wouldn’t sink to begging you for mercy. Still, I must remind you that if not for Shui Ni, Wen Feng and Fei Qiu would be dead already!”

“You’re mistaken,” said Su Yi. “First, I never asked her for help. Second, Wen Feng and Fei Qiu would have been fine with or without her.”

Heavenly Monarch Shui Ni froze, stunned. Her heart sank.

Granny Snake said without the slightest politeness, “Nonsense! You were locked in combat. If not for Shui Ni, how could the two of them possibly have survived the aftershock?”

Su Yi said nothing, but an altogether different, cold voice rang out. “With me here, they were never in any danger.”

A black sheep appeared accompanying this voice, hovering beside Wen Feng and Fei Qiu. It gazed coolly at Granny Snake. “If you doubt my capabilities, why not spar with me?”

Granny Snake felt a thrill of terror course through her. She was thoroughly ill at ease. When she looked into the black sheep’s eyes, she felt as if she were gazing through twin portals into hell. The sheep was like a demon deciding who to devour next.

Meanwhile, Heavenly Monarch Shui Ni understood why Su Yi had seemingly disregarded Wen Feng and Fei Qiu’s safety. He arranged for an expert to protect them before the battle even began!

The black sheep was, of course, Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep.

Innocence was still cultivating in seclusion and couldn’t help at the moment, but Su Yi didn’t mind. He estimated that when she emerged, she’d be far stronger than before. When the time came, Innocence wouldn’t be afraid of any Heavenly Monarch beneath the heavens!

“I won’t leave.” Heavenly Monarch Shui Ni shook her head.

Granny Snake snorted coldly. “So you aren’t entirely spineless. You haven’t brought shame upon the sect!”

She then looked at Su Yi. “Su Yi, go ahead and try it! See if you can kill us all!”

Her gaze was cold, her tone unyielding. “I dare say with certainty that if you try, you’ll pay dearly for it!”

Su Yi’s eyebrows rose. The old crone is obviously relying on something. She wouldn’t dare to be so ruthless otherwise.

But then, Lian Yue suddenly broke her silence. “Fellow Daoist Su, I have no right to request your mercy. Instead, I’d like to cut a deal with you.”

A deal? Su Yi’s eyebrows rose, and a jade pendant floated into the air. It was highly extraordinary, and it resembled a glittering, snowy full moon. Its surface was inscribed with a mysterious palace diagram.

“Young Mistress, you cannot!” Granny Snake looked stricken and instantly tried to stop her.

“Step back, Granny Snake. Let me handle this,” Lian Yue said coldly. An unprecedented, majestic aura emanated from her, holy and ethereal.

Granny Snake tensed, then instinctively lowered her head.

Su Yi was stunned, too. He could keenly sense a deeply hidden, mysterious power. Moreover, it was extraordinarily dangerous!

Even the Contented Heart Scepter and Book of Destiny seemed startled. Both treasures quivered as if they’d sensed something.

This change happened so quickly that Su Yi couldn’t help but look solemn. There’s more to the ‘Princess of the Moon Palace’ than meets the eye!

At the same time, he recalled his first incarnation’s heart devil’s warning. “When the Book of Destiny and Contented Heart Scepter enter the world, other taboo treasures will inevitably appear, too. She spoke casually, but her words left the sheep unwittingly stunned. A pendant is enough to defend her against even a Heavenly Sovereign?

Lian Yue then looked at Su Yi. “Fellow Daoist, if you’re willing to show mercy, I’ll be sure to repay the favor one day. In the meantime, I can entrust the Lunar Goddess Pendant to you as collateral. Look after it for me, then return it to me when the day comes that I repay my debt to you.”

Su Yi didn’t even look at the pendant. Instead, he said, “If the pendant is so precious, how can you bear to entrust it to me? Aren’t you afraid that something will happen to it?”

Lian Yue shook her head. “I trust you, Fellow Daoist Su. Even if something does happen, I know it won’t have been on purpose.”

Granny Snake was frantic. “Young Mistress, you absolutely cannot give him the pendant. He...”

But Lian Yue didn’t let her finish. “Granny, I’ve made up my mind.”

In the face of that staunch gaze, Granny Snake dared not say anything more. She just felt incomparably stifled and ill at ease.

Lian Yue had an incomparably transcendent position in the Court of the Southern Heavens. Even their founder, Heavenly Sovereign Changhen, thought extremely highly of her.

Lian Yue, Granny Snake, and Heavenly Monarch Shui Ni were stunned. It seemed they dared not believe their ears.

Even Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep couldn’t help but take another look at Su Yi. Even disregarding the mysterious power hidden within that pendant, taking it would be like holding Lian Yue’s life in his hands. Why on earth did he refuse?

“Hurry up and leave before I change my mind.” Su Yi waved dismissively.

Lian Yue’s gaze was strange. She stared intently at Su Yi for a moment, then solemnly clasped her fist and expressed her gratitude. “Fellow Daoist Su, I’ll remember your kindness ‘til the end of my days. One day... I’ll be sure to repay you!”

With that, she turned to leave, her white dress swaying around her, ethereal and extraordinary.

Granny Snake and Heavenly Monarch Shui Ni exchanged glances, then hurried after her. Before they left, Heavenly Monarch Shui Ni expressed her gratitude to Su Yi with the utmost politeness, while Granny Snake just glowered in silence.

But how could Su Yi possibly concern himself with any of that?

He watched as Lian Yue and the others faded from view before turning away, taking out a jug of wine and taking a sip.

“You sure are soft on beauties,” grumbled Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep. “Don’t tell me you let lust muddle your senses? What, did the mysterious Princess of the Moon Palace bewitch your heart?”

Su Yi was in no mood for jokes. He said gravely, “If I’d attacked just now, I’m confident I would have lived, but I couldn’t have guaranteed your safety, much less Wen Feng and Fei Qiu’s.”

The black sheep was stunned, then solemn. “Are you saying that the power you sensed on Lian Yue made even you sense a threat?”

Su Yi didn’t deny it. “She wasn’t lying. The power within the Lunar Goddess Pendant really was terrifying enough to contend with Heavenly Sovereigns. The part I really don’t understand is that from beginning to end, she showed no sign of hostility. Given the cards at her disposal, she might not have been able to kill me, but she could certainly have ensured her safety.

“But she did nothing of the sort, nor did she try to threaten me. Instead, she took an enormous step back and willingly took on a favor. Her decision was truly outside of my expectations.”

The black sheep pondered for a moment. “When you put it like that, Lian Yue really does seem strange. No wonder you’d let things end here.”

Su Yi shook his head slightly. “That’s not the only reason I didn’t strike to kill.”

The sheep was stunned. “What other reasons did you have?”

But Su Yi just grunted and didn’t explain. All he said was, “Someone is watching us. Let’s leave first, then talk.”

Only then did the sheep understand. Su Yi didn’t attack, in part because of Lian Yue, and in part because he knew they were being watched.

Su Yi waved his sleeve, and the Soul Prison Body Lock binding Wen Feng and Fei Qiu blurred into a beam of black light and landed in Su Yi’s palm.

The two of them had effectively been granted new life. Both struggled to their feet.

“Many thanks, Fellow Daoist Su!” The two Heavenly Monarchs of the Heart-Tempering Sword House practically wept with gratitude.

“You could have saved them a long time ago, couldn’t you?” the sheep couldn’t help but ask.

“No, I only just acquired means of helping them,” said Su Yi. In the earlier battle, he immediately suppressed Heavenly Monarch Bi Hu of Sevendeaths Court and stuffed him into his sleeves.

He then used his heart power to extract Heavenly Monarch Bi Hu’s soul and imprison it in the Divine Punishment Destiny Ruin on the first page of the Book of Destiny.

There’d been no need for him to search Heavenly Monarch Bi Hu’s soul. When the Monarch of Endless Tribulations threatened him, Heavenly Monarch Bi Hu obediently offered up the secret method for controlling the Soul Prison Body Lock.

That was how Su Yi managed to remove the seal and free Wen Feng and Fei Qiu so easily.

“Let’s go.” Su Yi got straight to work. He summoned a little boat, which carried him, Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep, Wen Feng, Fei Qiu, and the others off.

In the blink of an eye, they’d vanished over the horizon.

From beginning to end, Su Yi didn’t spare the ruins of the Heart-Tempering Sword House so much as another glance.

In truth, the ruins had been destroyed completely during the battle. Nothing remained of them now but scarred, scorched earth. It was now a barren place devoid of all life.

There was no longer anything worthwhile to be learned there.

Su Yi didn’t regret this. Saving Wen Feng and Fei Qiu meant he hadn’t made this trip in vain.

Not long after he left, a group appeared out of nowhere in that barren stretch of ruined earth.
