Chapter 2939 - The Yitian Eternal Throne, Great Sorrow
Heaven and earth lay in ruin. All was desolate and bleak.
A grand battle had destroyed most of the boundless landscape, leaving everything covered in scars.
A group appeared out of midair.
Their leader was a young man in black robes. He carried twin sheathed sabers on his back, one as red as fire, the other as dark as ink. The blades crossed, and both hilts jutted out past his shoulders. He was beautifully handsome, tall and thin, and he held his arms across his chest, resting his head in his palm as he surveyed the battlefield.
A group of Immeasurable Realm Dao Lords and three Heavenly Monarchs stood behind him.
No one spoke. It seemed they dared not disrupt the white-haired young man’s thoughts lightly.
After a while, the young man let out a long breath. “Impressive, impressive. With his Silent Realm cultivation, he actually managed to suppress Heavenly Monarchs. Su Yi really is an anomaly. You really can’t judge him by his cultivation base.”
The group behind him visibly relaxed. One of them, a thin, black-robed elder, said, “Young Sovereign, it seems to this man that you’re at least as strong as he is, if not stronger!”
“That’s right, Young Sovereign. Heavenly Monarchs’ strengths are highly variable. Su Yi might well be heaven-defying, but if he runs into you, he’s sure to lose!”
“It’s a pity that this wasn’t the right time for us to act. Otherwise, Su Yi could never have escaped!”
The others chimed in as well, all of them complimenting the young man with white hair. They were all flattering him, but it never seemed inappropriate.
Because their young master was Heavenly Sovereign Ling’s son!
In the Eternal Heavens Domain, Heavenly Sovereign Ling was known as the Master of Divine Punishment and presided over one of the five celestial capitals of the Eternal Heavens Domain, the Xuanli Celestial Capital.
The white-haired young man was called Ling Wenxuan. He was Heavenly Sovereign Ling’s only son.
In the Xuanli Celestial Capital, everyone called him “Young Sovereign!”
Ling Wenxuan lived up to the expectations people had for the children of Heavenly Sovereigns, too. He was born with extraordinary talent and an incomparably heaven-defying bloodline power.
His path through Eternity was full of legendary flair. He’d placed in the top three in Divine Reverence Pavilion’s Unfettered Ranking, Divine Wandering Ranking, Silent Ranking, and Immeasurable Ranking.
In the Immeasurable Realm, he even suppressed all others of the same level, claiming first place and holding it for a full thousand years!
Throughout the ages, everyone in the Eternal Heavens Domain had known that Ling Wenxuan was blessed with great fortune, the type of genius to dazzle the ages.
However, he’d kept a low profile since becoming a Heavenly Monarch, living deep in seclusion and seldom venturing out. Thus, of late, there’d been few rumors surrounding him.
It had been that way for a full eight thousand years now!
“Don’t underestimate the world’s heroes,” said Ling Wenxuan, extending his arms and stretching. He said distractedly, “If Su Yi were a small fry, why would my father have sent his clone to deal with him personally during the God Domain’s Battle for Order?”
He paused, then said solemnly, “It’s true that not all Heavenly Monarchs are created equal, but don’t forget: Su Yi is capable of killing Heavenly Monarchs while still in the Silent Realm. How strong will he become upon entering the Immeasurable Realm?”
The others exchanged glances. None had anything to say to that.
Ling Wenxuan continued, “And what will happen when he becomes a Heavenly Monarch? How strong will he be then?”
The atmosphere was stifled. No one said a word. None of them were stupid; they naturally knew that Su Yi was a true anomaly!
“During the battle in the Literati Continent, multiple Heavenly Sovereigns personally participated in battle, yet failed to capture him. Now, he’s come to the ruins of the Heart-Tempering Sword House strong enough to fight and kill Heavenly Monarchs single-handedly.” Ling Wenxuan sighed. “How could I possibly underestimate Jiang Wuchen’s reincarnation knowing all this?”
Suddenly, he shifted tack. “I didn’t attack earlier in part because I wasn’t fully confident, and in part because the situation really wasn’t right.”
Here, he turned and gazed into the distant dome of heaven. “Yan Xiaosheng, don’t you think it’s about time you came out and said hello?"
His voice was like metal boring through stone. It echoed throughout heaven and earth.
Everyone was startled.
Yan Xiaosheng!
He, too, was a Young Sovereign. He was Heavenly Sovereign E’s ninth son.
Heavenly Sovereign E was known as the Ruler of Bloodshed. His Laws of Calamity were the most mysterious power of the Grand Dao among the nine Heavenly Sovereigns.
Moreover, unlike most of the others, his whereabouts were always a mystery, and he traveled alone, never founding any kind of sect or faction.
But it was also common knowledge that he had nine sons, the most children of any of the Heavenly Sovereigns.
And Yan Xiaosheng was his youngest, as well as an unparalleled monster. They called him the Heavenly Monarch of Calamity!
He was infamous throughout the Five Great Continents.
“Hmph! I have no interest in meeting with you, Ling Wenxuan. If we do, I’m afraid I won’t be able to resist the urge to smack you to death!” A cold voice emanated from the distant skies, booming like thunder throughout the dome of heaven.
“If you really can’t resist, why haven’t you attacked me yet?” Ling Wenxuan chuckled, then shot into the air and gazed into the distance. “How about we seize this opportunity to play together? We can fight to victory and defeat if you like, or to the death if you’d prefer. Either way, I promise to accompany you to the bitter end!”
Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, Ling Wenxuan’s aura surged, boiling over with murderous intent and shaking both heaven and earth.
“You think I don’t dare?” Yan Xiaosheng’s icy voice emanated from afar. He made no attempt to disguise his murderous intent.
But then, a listless, indolent voice rang out. “Enough. Quit squabbling. If you two were really going to fight to the death, you’d have done it by now.”
Ling Wenxuan’s gaze focused. He exclaimed, “Yun Du? You’re actually here, too?”
Yun Du! Everyone gasped.
A certain Heavenly Monarch had always been extraordinarily controversial in the Eternal Heavens Domain.
That was Yun Du! He was a sword cultivator, and one of the strongest Heavenly Monarchs around.
He was controversial because he’d once gotten drunk and announced that he would one day surpass Jiang Wuchen and become the new Greatest of the Unthroned!
That was the start of the controversy. Some criticized his brazen impudence, while others thought he might well succeed one day.
No matter how you felt about him, there was no denying that Yun Du was strong, strong enough that even Heavenly Sovereigns had sought him out and tried to recruit him. That was all but unprecedented.
But Yun Du refused them all.
His refusal had become a popular tale spoken of throughout the Eternal Heavens Domain.
“The Heart-Tempering Sword House has met with disaster, and the Malevolent Sword Venerate is dead. How could I not come have a look?” said that languid, indolent voice. “Fortunately, I didn’t come in vain. I got to see Jiang Wuchen’s reincarnation for myself, and he didn’t disappoint me!”
“If you saw him, why didn’t you attack?” asked Ling Wenxuan.
“Why should I have attacked?” Yun Du said listlessly, as if none of this interested him at all. “I never even considered seizing the opportunity to kill Jiang Wuchen’s reincarnation. But enough of that; we cannot possibly understand each other, so talking to you is just a waste of breath. I’m leaving.”
As Yun Du’s voice echoed through the air, Ling Wenxuan sensed that he had indeed left.
This mighty, mysterious sword cultivator had always been like this, coming and going unpredictably; his behavior was strange and unorthodox.
“Ling Wenxuan, have you heard of the Yitian Eternal Throne?” Yan Xiaosheng asked suddenly.
Ling Wenxuan blinked, stunned. “I heard about it.”
There were thirteen Eternal Thrones during the Devastation, but during the battle that brought the era to a close, two Eternal Thrones were destroyed and lost to the world.
The Yitian Eternal Throne was one of them!
Prior to that battle, Heavenly Sovereign Wanmiao had controlled it. However, he ultimately died in battle, and even his Eternal Throne was destroyed.
Heavenly Sovereign Wanmiao’s lost Eternal Throne had been a legend ever since.
“If you know about the business with Heavenly Sovereign Wanmiao, I trust that you’ll be participating in the Struggle for Heavenly Fate, too?” said Yan Xiaosheng. He’d remained hidden all this time, and no one could sense where he was hiding himself.
However, every word he spoke boomed loud and clear throughout heaven and earth.
“The Struggle for Heavenly Fate?” Ling Wenxuan’s gaze was strange. He shook his head. “It’s too early to discuss all that. There’ll be no Struggle for Heavenly Fate if we can’t piece the Yitian Eternal Throne together again.”
The experts gathered around Ling Wenxuan were flabbergasted. The Struggle for Heavenly Fate? What’s that? And how is it connected to the Yitian Eternal Throne? The Yitian Eternal Throne was lost during the end of the Devastation. Don’t tell me it’s reappeared?
The crowd suddenly realized that the Struggle for Heavenly Fate Ling Wenxuan and Yan Xiaoling spoke of was likely top secret!
“You’re mistaken.” Yan Xiaosheng’s voice boomed once more. “According to my father, so long as we find Great Sorrow, we have a shot at rebuilding the Yitian Eternal Throne. Naturally, that would mark the start of a Struggle for Heavenly Fate!”
Astonishment greeted this declaration. Rebuilding an Eternal Throne!? Wouldn’t that mean a tenth Heavenly Sovereign would appear in the Eternal Heavens Domain? Does that mean that the so-called ‘Struggle for Heavenly Fate’ refers to the competition to see who becomes the next Heavenly Sovereign?
Most unbelievable of all, they hadn’t heard of any of these secrets before. They hadn’t even heard the barest hint of a rumor.
Yet now, Young Sovereign Yan Xiaosheng was revealing them without holding anything back. It seemed he wasn’t the least bit afraid of being overheard.
Ling Wenxuan furrowed his brow. “Yang Xiaosheng, what exactly are you trying to say?”
Yan Xiaosheng didn’t answer. All he said was, “Do you remember that just a few years prior, someone deciphered the Divine Hunt Edict and acquired Great Sorrow, which had previously been sealed in the mundane Huaihuang Empire?”
Indeed, everyone knew exactly what he was talking about.
A few years prior, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan found the sword Great Sorrow in the Blue Peak Continent’s Huaihuang Empire. This incident caused an enormous commotion.
Great Sorrow was, after all, a weapon fit for a Heavenly Sovereign. During the battle at the end of the Devastation, it destroyed Heavenly Sovereign Wanmiao’s Eternal Throne, Yitian!
Who wouldn’t have paid attention?
“I naturally heard about that,” said Ling Wenxuan. “What, surely you aren’t planning to target Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan?”
“I’m not frenzied enough to duke it out with a Heavenly Sovereign,” said Yan Xiaosheng. “But I heard that several Heavenly Sovereigns decided to meet with Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan. They wanted to work with him and use Great Sorrow to recreate the lost Eternal Throne!”
Shock followed this declaration.
Even Ling Wenxuan was stunned.
If this was true, the Yitian Eternal Throne might well soon re-enter the world!
