Chapter 94: 94-The One I Crave The Most
Theodore:
So I crouched down beside her, taking her hand and rubbing the back of it with my thumb.
"My stalker," she uttered, pointing at her chest.
I don’t know why, but she looked even more frightened now than before.
I mean, she already knew she had a stalker.
Or maybe she had never imagined he would come after her brother and her family.
"I’ll take care of it," Ragnar said as he raised his phone to his ear and started walking away.
Then I noticed him pause when he passed Verity.
"You. Come with me."
His tone left no room for argument.
He motioned toward the backyard.
My head immediately turned.
I was a lot like Ragnar.
I wasn’t the jealous type either.
And certainly not when it came to my brothers.
Although none of my exes had ever been allowed to get that close.
By the time we started dating seriously, Gigi had already established healthy boundaries for our girlfriends.
She didn’t want any of them trying to come between the brothers or pulling sneaky shit behind our backs.
For that, I was grateful to her.
I once had a girlfriend whom Gigi suspected was being a little too friendly with Jaguar.
I noticed it too.
Eventually, Gigi told me it would be better if I completely cut her out of my life.
And I did.
I was glad I listened.
So why the fuck did watching Verity walk into the backyard with Ragnar trigger such a strong reaction in me?
For a moment, I completely forgot I was supposed to be comforting Gigi.
In other words, I was worried for Verity.
Whenever it came to Gigi, Ragnar could become very harsh.
And I didn’t want Verity to fall under his wrath.
"Is this how some people love these days? Even when the woman isn’t interested in them, they keep stalking her?"
Gigi had been crying for the past five minutes.
Although I was fully present for her, I couldn’t help glancing toward the backyard door every once in a while.
It had already been five minutes. What the heck was Ragnar even talking to Verity about?
Then Gigi suddenly grabbed my hand and gave it a gentle shake.
Jaguar was sitting on her left on the couch, holding her other hand.
"Do you think my beauty has become a curse?" Gigi asked, her lips curling downward.
I felt so bad for her. I couldn’t bear to see her cry, so I quickly looked away, shaking my head.
"You don’t need to think about that," Jaguar murmured.
"Nothing that belongs to you will ever become a curse," he added, gently cupping her cheek.
She closed her eyes and rubbed her cheek against his palm.
She was so cute, affectionate, and adorable.
"He’s right. We’re here to protect you. Whoever this motherfucker is, he’s going to be so sorry he even thought about you," I said, running my hand up and down her arm to comfort her.
She placed her hand over the back of mine, guiding the movement as I continued to stroke her arm.
Then she leaned over and rested her head on my shoulder.
I quickly wrapped an arm around her and gave her a gentle squeeze, holding her close.
That was when she rested her hand in my lap while sniffling.
She didn’t notice, obviously, because she was crying and completely overwhelmed.
I did, though, because her hand had landed directly on my crotch, resting over my shaft.
Every once in a while, whenever she cried a little harder, she would unconsciously squeeze it, completely unaware of what she was doing.
Her other hand was resting in Jaguar’s lap, and I saw his face turn pale as well.
We shared a brief glance before quickly looking away, neither of us acknowledging what had happened.
We didn’t want her innocent actions to become something embarrassing.
Then she slowly raised her head as I discreetly took her hand in mine, lifting it from my crotch.
I guessed Jaguar got the idea because he quickly did the same, gently freeing himself from her grip.
She straightened up and sniffled.
"Who could it be?" she murmured under her breath.
I noticed her zone out. The fear on her face was overwhelming.
Then she lowered her gaze and sighed.
"And to think Verity was the one who saw him. I can only imagine how she must be feeling."
As expected of Gigi, even at a time like this, she was worried about Verity.
It was even more heartbreaking because Oliver was Gigi’s brother, not Verity’s.
"It’s okay. I’m pretty sure she’ll be fine," I said.
Gigi shook her head.
"No, you don’t understand. How would you feel if the woman you’ve loved your whole life, the woman you’ve been desperate to spend even a moment with, was lying in the street, bleeding and badly beaten? How would you feel?"
Somehow, Gigi’s words made my heart skip a beat.
I understood what she was saying, but if I was interpreting it correctly, was she trying to say that Verity had a crush on Oliver?
It just didn’t make any sense.
She sighed, lowering her head.
"I think Justin had no idea he was ruining so many lives when he ruined mine," she uttered softly, shaking her head in disbelief, while my heart began to pound harder and louder in my chest.
"Wait, what are you trying to say?" I asked again, this time wanting a clear answer.
Because if I was right, it would change everything.
I’d started to think that maybe Verity had begun to like me. So where did Oliver fit into all of this now?
"Has there ever been anything between her and Oliver?" I asked, trying to hide my shock, but I failed.
Gigi looked at me before giving me a broken smile.
"They were dating back when Justin and I were together."
That answer didn’t just shock me. Somehow, Jaguar’s eyes widened too.
I could tell where his surprise came from.
He worked for the royal family, and now one of the royal betas turned out to be Verity’s ex.
But for me, it was worse. The woman I’d started to develop feelings for now had her ex back in her life.
