Chapter 95: 95-Right Under My Bra Strap

Verity:

I’d done a great job. I’d created a situation where Gigi’s reaction was worth watching.

From lying to actually having a stalker, I could tell she was panicking inside.

Then Ragnar decided not only to leave but to drag me with him.

I followed him into the backyard.

The moment I stepped into the fresh air, I let out a deep breath.

He didn’t turn around to talk to me right away.

Instead, he became busy on his phone, speaking to his warriors

. I could tell he was pulling more and more people into this.

Of course he was. Gigi’s beloved brother had been attacked.

"I want CCTV footage from around the area," he demanded before ending the call.

My mind immediately began to race. I retraced my steps, trying to remember whether I’d seen any cameras around.

Did they catch me? I mean, wouldn’t they?

Did I make a mistake somewhere?

Yes, I did.

Even if they couldn’t identify who was under the hoodie, they’d easily figure out that I’d gone back there, checked on him in the street, returned to get a coffee, and then walked back out.

That would look hella suspicious.

Once Ragnar ended the call, he turned around and stared at me before walking over with his hands on his waist, his head tilted.

"Start speaking. I want every detail. How did you two meet at the office? What time did you work until? When did you leave? What made you go into the same street where you found him?"

The way he fired those questions at me, I could already tell he suspected me.

There was no way he believed it was my first time meeting Gigi’s brother.

And, of course, it wasn’t.

So I explained everything to him, leaving out the part where I went into the woods, the part where I beat the fuck out of him, and the part where I orchestrated the whole thing.

I stuck to my story as though I had memorized it by heart.

Once I was done, I took a deep breath, about to suggest that everyone around Gigi was in danger, when suddenly something struck the back of my neck, almost as if it had gotten tangled in my hair.

"What the fuck?" I screamed, running my hand through my hair as I jumped forward.

Without realizing what I was doing, I crashed into Ragnar’s chest.

"Get it off me," I said, grabbing his hand and shoving it into my hair.

I was panicking so badly that I didn’t realize he was the forbidden one, the person I wasn’t supposed to get close to because he would fucking kill me if I did.

As I started moving around and he still didn’t do anything, I pulled away from Ragnar.

He stood there like a brick wall, staring at me.

"What the fuck are you looking at? Get it off me!" I screamed at him, watching his eyes narrow.

He glanced behind me, and as I kept jumping up and down, I shoved my hand into my hair. Whatever it was slipped into my shirt.

Then I felt it.

The most painful pinch ever.

A sharp, needle-like pain exploded beneath the side of my bra strap, right along the curve of my breast. It wasn’t just a sting.

Then it moved to my back, right under the bra strap once again.

It felt as though tiny hooks had sunk into my skin and clamped down, refusing to let go.

I yelped, my whole body jerking as the burning pain spread through the spot.

Whatever had gotten inside my shirt wasn’t crawling anymore.

It was hanging onto me, its tiny jaws digging deeper every time I moved, making me panic even harder.

This had gotten completely out of hand.

I did not want to lose my composure, but here I was, struggling to reach my back and get the bat away from me.

"Wait, it’s stuck in your dress," Ragnar finally snapped.

But I was in such a state that I could no longer think rationally.

Nor did I want him yelling at me in this situation or acting like the sophisticated man he believed himself to be.

"I don’t fucking care! Get it off me!" I almost screamed at him.

The pain was unbearable.

Ragnar glanced around, and then I watched him turn as if he were about to head back to the mansion.

I realized he was probably going to call a maid or someone else to help me.

That was the last thing I wanted, so I rushed straight through the back exit.

It was the easier way out, and the woods were right behind that area.

As I ran out of the backyard, I briefly glanced back in the darkness and noticed Ragnar.

He had stopped midway. He looked at the mansion, then back at me before deciding to come after me.

He had probably realized it was going to take too long to get help.

He did come after me immediately.

The moment he started running, I sprinted even faster.

There was a road behind the mansion that led to the backyard. I crossed it within seconds.

"What the fuck are you doing?" I heard Ragnar scream after me, but I did not stop.

I ran straight into the woods, and the moment I did, I began to move around in my shirt.

I needed to get that fucking thing off my back.

I unzipped my shirt and felt the cold air hit my skin.

However, the bat sank its teeth even deeper, as if it were trying to cling to me.

"Fucking let me go!" I screamed at the bat.

That was when I heard a twig snap.

And I turned around and made direct eye contact with Ragnar.

He quickly looked away. Then he slowly scratched his forehead with the tip of his thumb.

"Is it off?" he asked, not looking directly at me.

"No. It is fucking clinging to me," I almost cried as I turned my back to him.

I twisted my neck and saw him close his eyes for a second before opening them again and looking at me.

I don’t know why, but the way he narrowed his eyes at my back made goosebumps spread across my skin.
