Chapter 92: 92-Interrupting Their Tea Party
Verity:
Within seconds, people started making their way toward me.
I was playing the part of a stressed, bewildered woman who had never seen something like this before.
A woman holding a little girl’s hand was the first to arrive, followed by an elderly man.
"What happened?" the woman asked urgently.
I pointed toward the street with a shaking hand.
"I —do–n’t —know," I stammered.
The woman turned her head to follow my gesture and immediately spotted the body lying on the ground.
"Oh my goddess!" she screamed, quickly covering her daughter’s eyes while pulling her away from the body.
"Don’t look, sweetheart," she told her daughter, who immediately hugged her mother in fear.
The old man hurried past us.
"What happened to him?" he asked over his shoulder.
I shook my head repeatedly.
"Do you know what happened?" he asked again.
I shook my head once more.
"No, I just arrived and found him here." My voice trembled as I gulped hard. "What is going on? Did somebody stab him? Is he dead?"
I let out a shaky cry, fully playing the part.
"No, no, it’s okay, child," the old man replied calmly as he crouched beside Oliver. "Let me check."
My heart was pounding so hard I was afraid somebody would hear it.
The old man reached toward Oliver’s neck.
A few seconds passed.
"He’s still breathing," he announced.
I immediately let out a shaky breath as a part of the plan.
"Oh, thank goddess," I said, placing both hands on my chest and silently thanking the Moon Goddess for saving this ’innocent, poor man’s life.’
The old man frowned as he looked at the trash bag covering Oliver’s head.
"What in the world?"
The bag had slipped down to his chin, but it was obvious that somebody had deliberately covered his face.
The old man carefully grabbed the edge of it and pulled it back.
I gasped dramatically, immediately drawing attention to myself.
The old man and the woman both turned to look at me.
By then, another young man had arrived after noticing the commotion.
"What happened here?" he asked, slowing to a stop beside us.
Nobody had an answer.
All of us were staring at the unconscious man lying in the middle of the street.
The young man looked between us before his eyes settled on me.
I guessed he could tell from my widened eyes and the way I was staring at the man.
"Do you know him?" he asked.
I swallowed hard before shakily nodding.
"Yes."
They all looked at me with hope.
"He is my boss’s brother-in-law."
The old man’s eyes widened.
The woman pulled her daughter a little closer.
Suddenly, everybody seemed a lot more interested in who the unconscious man was, what had happened to him, and how I was the one who had found him.
We had brought Oliver to the hospital.
I had acted like I didn’t know his phone’s passcode, so I couldn’t call anyone.
That was because I wanted to be the one to take him home personally.
Like he had said, I already knew his address. The new one, though.
"He doesn’t have any life-threatening injuries, but somebody really took their anger out on him," the doctor said as the old man and I stood in front of him.
"He’s all patched up, but of course, the wolfsbane injection is making him drowsy," the doctor explained.
"Then I’ll just take him home," I replied, watching the doctor stare at me in confusion.
Usually, that would have been strange, but the doctor already knew who Oliver was.
The future Luna Queen’s brother.
"I don’t want any attention. I don’t know who beat him up or why they did it," I whispered.
By that point, the old man had started walking away.
I had thanked him repeatedly for helping me.
After he left, I continued speaking with the doctor, and he eventually agreed that I should take Oliver home before the news outlets arrived.
One of the warriors got into Oliver’s car, the one he had parked on the street.
He placed the unconscious Oliver in the back seat while I sat in the passenger seat, and we drove him home.
This was where I knew I was going to see Gigi.
What I didn’t know was that there would be three cars parked outside her side of the house.
I knew enough about her.
I had done my research.
They had built a new home here on the island with a partition separating the two sides.
That was how she had always lived.
She always had her own side.
She was a princess.
Daddy’s little girl.
The three cars belonged to the three Alpha King brothers, so they had probably come over to discuss the trip and everything else.
Well, little did they know, their plans were about to become a lot more difficult to carry out.
I pulled my dress down slightly to reveal more cleavage before stepping out, waiting for the warrior to carry Oliver inside.
Another warrior standing at the door immediately rushed over.
The two men draped Oliver’s arms over their shoulders and practically carried the sleeping man into the mansion.
I followed behind them.
The first thing I heard was Gigi’s loud scream.
"My brother! What happened to him?"
She cried out while I remained hidden behind the large figures walking ahead of me.
As I slowly stepped out from behind them, I noticed the three brothers were having tea with her.
They looked completely relaxed. Their coats were off, and their shirts were almost untucked.
"What happened to him?"
Ragnar was the first one to stand.
His voice was commanding as he rushed toward Oliver.
His eyes briefly landed on me before returning to Oliver.
The other two, however, froze the moment they saw me standing beside the warriors.
After zoning out for a bit, Theodore and Jaguar approached Oliver.
For the next few minutes, it was complete chaos.
Gigi kept crying and repeatedly asking the warriors what had happened to her brother.
Then the warriors asked where they should put him.
I watched Gigi think for a moment before she pointed toward a guest room on the side.
The warriors began carrying Oliver away.
Gigi hurried after them, with Ragnar following closely behind.
Jaguar and Theodore, however, stopped.
The two looked at each other, probably wondering why the other wasn’t moving, before their attention returned to me.
"You were with him?"
That was the first question that came out of Theodore’s mouth.
The same man who had been acting like he was over me so he could block me out of his mind.
In a soft, fragile manner, I nodded my head.
I watched both their faces turn pale.
