Chapter 165: 165-The Attack That Separated Me

Verity:

It appeared Ragnar was going neck and neck with the lycan.

It went on for the next ten minutes before I realized Ragnar was badly injured.

His wolf was covered in claw marks and bite marks.

I even saw Ragnar bite into the lycan’s skin. I don’t think it ever bled.

As for me, I kept running from one side window to the other, trying to see what was happening.

The driver had his eyes tightly shut, his hands pressed over his ears.

He had curled up on the seat. He screamed every once in a while.

Then my heart skipped a beat when the lycan finally got a hold of Ragnar’s wolf’s neck.

The advantage was that the lycan was on its two feet. It could use both hands to grab and fight in a way a wolf couldn’t.

Then it tossed Ragnar into the woods.

I’m not sure how far he flew, but I saw the trees shaking far ahead, as far as the car’s headlights could reach.

Then everything went silent.

"Do you think the Alpha King is dead?" the driver asked me.

I placed my hand on the seat in front of me.

"I’m not sure," I whispered.

There was silence.

Then suddenly, a claw came through the driver’s side window.

Right before my eyes, I watched the biggest hand with enormous claws grab the driver’s head and start dragging him out of the car.

The driver started screaming, and so did I.

I immediately reached for my purse, grabbed a pocket knife, and lunged forward. I don’t know why.

I started attacking the lycan’s hand.

The moment my fingers touched its rough skin as I grabbed one of its fingers, goosebumps prickled across my skin.

It was the weirdest burning feeling.

I started stabbing the back of its hand.

But its grip was far stronger.

I’m not even sure why I was fighting back. I didn’t even have a wolf.

But the thought of an innocent man being killed had taken over me.

Before I even realized it, I had started stabbing the lycan until it pulled the driver out through the window, with the pocket knife still embedded in the back of its hand.

The next thing I knew, I heard a skull crack, and at that point, I realized there was no point in trying to save the driver.

The lycan did it right in front of me.

With my heart thundering in my chest, I lifted myself from my seat and saw the lycan sitting on the road beside the car, eating the driver.

"Ah!" I screamed, kicking away from that side.

I opened the other door and threw myself out, heading into the woods to look for Ragnar.

I couldn’t stay here. It seemed like the lycan’s appetite was huge.

Even after eating the driver, I wasn’t sure it would just leave.

The minute the hot surface came in contact with my body, I started to crawl away.

Then I heard another loud screech from the lycan.

Then I saw him stand tall above the hood of the car.

He was snarling until his eyes landed on me, and I watched them turn completely white.

I screamed, got to my feet, and ran toward the woods.

Before I could get away, its claws wrapped around my body and threw me back onto the road.

My body erupted with pain unlike anything I had ever felt.

My dress rode up until my panties were visible.

I wasn’t even thinking about that until the lycan started moving toward me and stopped right in front of me.

I saw its body pulsating. The rise and fall of its chest showed that it was still intensely searching for prey.

Its claws were huge. Its skin was terrifying, it looked nothing like a normal werewolf.

Then I noticed the way it slowly lowered itself onto all fours.

That was not how it walked.

Its hands were more like a human’s, yet it started to crawl toward me, and I began to crawl away.

Its hand reached for my ankle and dragged me across the rough road toward it.

Then its fingers touched my bare thigh, and I immediately had a very bad feeling.

The lycan was in heat.

"No!"

I screamed as I lifted my leg and drove my heel right into its eye.

It let go, and I began to run toward the opposite side of the woods.

Not the right side where Ragnar had been thrown.

The left side was an even bigger mystery because it was much denser.

But I kept running.

The branches scratched my arms and my skin everywhere.

But I kept running.

In my head, I knew that if I didn’t run now, I’d be in a lot of danger.

After what felt like five minutes of running, and when I could no longer hear the monster’s screeching, I finally came to a halt beside a big tree.

I slid my back against it and tried to calm my breathing.

I was breathing so loudly that all I could hear was my own heartbeat in my ears.

Once I began to calm down, I thought maybe the lycan had left.

But I was wrong.

I was wrong when it suddenly stepped out from between two trees in front of me, coming face to face with me in a hunched position.

It opened its mouth wide and screamed in my face.

It snarled and growled while I screamed back, throwing myself to the ground and trying to crawl away.

I felt its claws wrap around my head, and it lifted my body off the ground without any effort.

As it shook my body like I was nothing but a sack of blood and skin, I felt like that was it.

Maybe this was how my life ended.

Then the fucking monster opened its mouth, trying to pull my head closer as if it were about to take a bite out of me.

I wasn’t sure what it was trying to do, and I didn’t want to find out.

My struggles were futile.

I screamed with my eyes closed before I felt a tremendous force that made the lycan pull away from me, and my body hit the ground.

That was when my eyes shot up, and I gasped.
