Chapter 138: 138-They Like Her More
Gigi:
That’s when I realized we had made a huge mistake.
I should have kept my mouth shut, and so should Ragnar.
Lady Lucille already didn’t get along with Ragnar.
The moment she found out that Ragnar hated Verity and that merely seeing her made his blood boil, she decided on the spot to hire her just to annoy him.
By then, I had already realized that Ragnar and his grandmother couldn’t stand each other.
So, of course, she made that decision simply to get on his nerves.
Verity smiled and gave her a small nod.
"So, are you feeling all right?" Lady Lucille suddenly asked.
Verity gently touched her cheek.
She was wearing makeup, but she had deliberately left the bruised spot only partially covered.
If she had applied more makeup, it would have been completely hidden.

I knew that because whenever I had a disagreement with one of my maids or friends, I was always the one who helped them cover the marks on their faces.
I would think, ’Okay, I made a mistake. Now I have to hide it.’ For their sake, not mine. It wasn’t like anyone was ever going to come after me.
Ragnar didn’t say a word.
He simply scoffed and stormed out of the room.
"Welcome on board," I said to Verity with a fake smile before turning to leave.
But that was when Jaguar and Theodore walked in.
They had heard everything.
So I stayed as well.
"You hired her?" Theodore asked, pointing at Verity.
"Yeah, I changed my mind," Lady Lucille replied.
I watched Jaguar smile to himself.
I paid close attention to their reactions.
Something was going on.
I didn’t believe the way they had suddenly started checking Verity out meant nothing.
I was sure something was running through their minds.
"I was just asking what happened to her face," Lady Lucille said, making me roll my eyes.
I thought about making up a lie so she wouldn’t tell them anything about my stalker.
"Actually," I began, but Verity spoke over me.
"I was attacked."
Lady Lucille’s eyebrows knitted together.
"It happened at the gas station. Actually, Gigi’s stalker came and attacked me. He beat me up. Then Ragnar came and dropped me off at my house."
Verity exposed everything.
She just kept talking without realizing when to stop.
Even Jaguar and Theodore started exchanging glances.
I glared at Verity, hoping she would look at me so I could silently tell her to shut up.
But she never did.
She just kept talking.

"Wait, what? First of all, she has a stalker who attacked you?" Lady Lucille asked, pointing at Verity.
Verity’s lips curved downward into a pout.
"Yeah, we’re afraid for her too because he’s attacking everyone connected to her," Verity replied softly.
But she didn’t understand.
Her empathy was going to get me into serious trouble.
"And which hospital did my grandson take you to?" Lady Lucille asked.
It was as though she wanted to confirm what she had heard because Verity had clearly said Ragnar had dropped her off at home.
I already knew about that.
One of the maids had told me the brothers were discussing how Ragnar hadn’t taken Verity to the hospital because of me.
Honestly, that had felt like a huge victory. The fact that he would do something like that for me meant a lot.
But now this old woman was going to ruin it because she looked genuinely disappointed.
"Oh, actually, the stalker didn’t want me to go to the hospital. Otherwise, he said he’d come after Gigi," Verity replied, looking down and fiddling with the ring on her finger.
"I’m so disappointed. My grandson chose to put his personal feelings ahead of the lives of innocent people," Lady Lucille said, shaking her head.
"Then we took her home to take care of her. Her boyfriend is a doctor, so he treated her. She’s fine now," Jaguar explained, glancing at me with concern because he knew Lady Lucille would have yet another reason to dislike me.
"You have a boyfriend?" Lady Lucille asked Verity.
Even I was stunned.
"Yeah, he’s a doctor."
The way Verity spoke about him made her smile widen.
I stared into the distance before letting out a deep breath.
Maybe it wasn’t that big of a problem.
She was already dating someone.
Still, I couldn’t help being shocked.
How had she managed to end up with a doctor?
Then my eyes drifted over her body, and I knew exactly how.
Nobody fucking cared that she was an Omega without a wolf.
Her body alone was enough to drive men crazy.
After the discussion, Verity left and said she would start working in a few days.
Meanwhile, I was ready to go home.

I had to talk to my mother about everything and sit down with Oliver to tell him about Verity and her boyfriend.
My mind was racing.
But before leaving, I wanted to say goodbye to Lady Lucille because I wanted to be the bigger person.
That was when I stopped outside her door after hearing her and Jenna talking.
"Grandma, she’s actually trying very hard," I heard Jenna say.
"So what? She can try. Anyone would try hard to be Ragnar’s girlfriend. She’s not doing us any favors."
As soon as Lady Lucille answered, I realized they were talking about me.
"And did you see the secretary? How the heck did my grandson think a woman like Verity Swan should be his secretary while someone like Gigi should be his girlfriend? Don’t you think it should be the other way around? Has he lost his mind? How have his standards fallen so low?"
It felt as though someone had stabbed me with a cold silver rod, ripped my heart out, and cut it into pieces.
Lady Lucille hadn’t just compared me to Verity. She had chosen Verity over me in the most brutal way possible.
The insecurity hit me so hard that I burst into tears.
Before I could even say goodbye to her, I turned and ran out of the mansion, crying.
