Chapter 111: 111-Not Ailing My Wounds

Verity:

I did not understand, but he was no longer driving me to the hospital.

He was taking me somewhere else, and I was in complete shock.

He took a much longer route, driving recklessly without stopping anywhere, and then I realized we were heading back to the omega community.

I tried to speak, taking deep, heavy breaths.

"I need to g–o to the hos—spital," I pleaded, my ribs tightening as I nearly screamed in pain.

"Plea—-se," I uttered.

But he did not stop. He just kept driving.

At that moment, it hit me. I was doing the right thing by these people.

They did not deserve any mercy. The way he was driving me made one thing clear.

He had read the letter.

I slowly reached for it, but my vision blurred, and I passed out again.

When I opened my eyes this time, I found myself in his arms as he carried me into my home.

How he had gotten inside, I could only guess.

He must have gone through my pocket, taken my keys, and unlocked the door.

How did he know the passcode to the other lock? That I couldn’t guess.

He carried me inside, and I fully woke when he dropped me onto the bed.

It was a rough landing, almost as if he had thrown me onto it.

The force jolted me awake.

"I’m so sorry," he immediately apologized, though it did not sound sincere.

It felt more like he was apologizing because his aggression had slipped out.

"I need to go to the hospital," I uttered, slowly forcing myself into a sitting position on the bed.

He paced back and forth at the foot of the bed, running a hand through his hair.

That was when I realized the letter had landed on the bed with me when he had laid me down.

I slowly reached for it, and as soon as I opened it, my heart dropped.

It was written for Gigi.

’Dear love,

I know you will find her body here. This is a token of my love for you. I’ve done this for you. But please, try not to take her to the hospital. Try not to tell anyone. Don’t go complaining to the Alpha King brothers. They cannot protect you like I can.

Because if you do, Gigi, I’m sorry, but I’ll have to come for you next. I’ll finally have to steal you. And you know I can do that. If I can wander around without getting noticed, I can be right behind you next time.’

My eyes filled with tears as I looked up at Ragnar.

"Oh, don’t look at me like that," Ragnar hissed, clearly realizing I had read the letter.

I mean, he had let me read it so I would understand why he had brought me here instead of taking me to the hospital.

"The letter clearly warned me against taking you to the hospital. If I did, he’d come for Gigi," he grunted, making me smile weakly to myself.

"And you decided to put your personal— personal benefit above the people you’re supposed to protect?" I asked through a shaky breath.

He stared at me, then tilted his head before letting out a loud chuckle.

"Don’t expect any mercy from me. If anything, you’re lucky Gigi let you off the hook. Because every time I look at your face, I remember your fucking brother. And if you know, you know. You’re not getting punished because of Gigi. You’re getting punished because of your own brother. So if you have to yell at anyone, go dig up his grave and yell at his face."

He hunched over the bed, pointing at me as he spoke every word.

I remembered every one of them, engraving them into my memory, just like everything else. The list kept growing.

I sniffled, taking long breaths as the pain hit me even harder.

"I’ll get you some medicine. Patch yourself up," he hissed carelessly. "But you’re not going to the hospital. Not until I find out what kind of monster we’re dealing with."

As he said that, I realized they were scared for Gigi.

These were the Alpha King brothers.

They were never scared of anything.

If someone challenged them, they would openly accept it.

But because the letter had been addressed to Gigi, she was their weakness.

They were under immense pressure to protect her, which was why an Alpha King was forced to act like a coward for the first time in his life.

I knew the brothers. Their egos were enormous.

Just thinking about how much they were forcing themselves to stay in control, that a single letter, a single threat, had pushed them into taking such a step, I could only imagine how frustrated Ragnar was deep inside.

But I also knew I had to play my part. I had to get to him.

At the very least, I had to leave him with words I would remind him of when I was at the top of my game.

"If that’s the case, then—well—" I paused before continuing through a shaky breath. "Would you put your own lover in the same category after finding out what her brother do to women?"

The moment I said that and drew the comparison, I watched Ragnar’s fists clench.

He strode over to the bed and hunched over me, making me flatten myself against the mattress in fear as I clasped my hands tightly against my chest.

"Fuck. Don’t fucking say another word," he warned, leaning so close over me that I could feel the anger radiating from him.

"You don’t get to say that. You’re lucky you’re beaten up right now, or I would’ve taught you a lesson for trying to manipulate me against Oliver."

He straightened and started to walk away.

However, he stopped after a few steps, turned around, and glared at me.

"Especially when you were the one begging for him to get between your legs."

The moment he added that, my breath caught.

A second later, he walked out.

He could leave a dying person behind for his beloved Gigi.
