Chapter 109: 109-Someone More Powerful Than Us

Jaguar:

Whatever Oliver told us left a huge impact on all of us.

We were already worried about Gigi’s safety because if this person was attacking so many people close to her, it was almost like he was sending a message that anyone could be next.

It could even be Gigi. Maybe he was trying to create the impression that he was always close to her, yet we still couldn’t get to him.

Those thoughts weighed on our minds as we helped Oliver lie back down and rest.

"He has magical powers. He’s a magical creature. That means he’s a monster," Theodore said immediately.

Ragnar stood with his hands in his pants pockets for the first time.

He never really put his hands in his pockets, so whenever he did, you could be sure he was deep in thought.

"I don’t know why this is happening," Gigi uttered, looking confused and lost.

She had lost all the color in her face. She looked so pale.

"Don’t worry. Monster or not, we’ll deal with him," I assured her, reminding her that only a few days earlier, I had encountered a monster in the woods and fought it.

In simple words, she looked like she could pass out at any moment.

"I have to go as well now," she uttered very softly.

"Go where?" Ragnar finally snapped out of his thoughts, sitting on a separate couch while Theodore and I remained on the same couch with Gigi, sandwiching her between us to remind her how protective we were of her.

"Remember, Verity’s phone was left in your pocket. I have to drop it off too," she replied just as softly.

"Oh, about that—" I immediately spoke up when I noticed she mentioned it.

However, my eyes shifted to Ragnar, and I decided to stay silent for now.

"You don’t have to go anywhere right now," Ragnar snapped. "Hand me the phone. I’ll drop it off to her."

I noticed Gigi hesitate before responding.

She was usually in a hurry with everything, but that hesitation reminded me that the way she had been acting as though she didn’t care at all was a lie.

Of course, she was a woman in love too.

Despite all this tension, she hadn’t asked about my brother even once.

That alone proved how special Gigi was.

She handed the phone to Ragnar and sat back down.

"There’s a piece of paper with the address written on it," Gigi replied, her voice duller than before.

Ragnar got up and walked away to collect his clothes and other belongings from her room.

He never really stayed at her house for more than a night.

Usually, Gigi would come and stay at our place instead.

He would spend one night at her house, but after they spent the night together, he usually moved to the guest room.

When he walked away, I turned to Gigi.

"I did some research," I told her, watching her eyes widen.

"Nothing happened between Ragnar, and Verity."

I watched her face light up almost instantly.

"How do you know that?" Theodore asked.

"Actually, I pulled a few strings to get the information out of Verity. Well, she had gotten something bit her, so she had stepped away to check under her dress. Meanwhile, Ragnar accidentally ended up with her phone because he was interrogating her before that. That’s all that happened. That’s how he ended up putting the phone in his pocket," I explained, making sure to tell the story in a way that wouldn’t make Gigi think Ragnar had gone out of his way for another woman.

I mean, just him holding the flashlight for Verity was already a huge deal.

Knowing Ragnar, he would have simply called one of the guards and sent him to help her.

Both Theodore and Gigi looked visibly relieved.

Then Gigi smiled to herself. It was the most innocent, genuine smile.

"I knew nothing had happened."

"But I had slowly begun to realize that the call Verity made was probably not just a dream." She pouted, silently telling me what was still worrying her.

"Anyway, now that everything has been sorted out, may I please have the most gorgeous woman accompany me to a coffee shop?" Theodore asked, holding his hand out to her.

I wanted to do that too. I wanted to steal her away from him, to earn more points with her.

But my mind was occupied now.

I had somewhere else to be, so I let him take her. It was okay even if I wasn’t the one taking care of Gigi.

As long as she was happy, that was all that mattered.

"You guys don’t have to accompany me everywhere," she joked, frowning at us.

It silently told us that she understood exactly what we were doing.

We had become overly conscious and overprotective of her.

Still, she accepted his hand while I got up to begin my own journey.

Now that I knew Verity wasn’t going home to retrieve her phone from Ragnar, I realized her house must be empty.

So I hurried there before Ragnar could even leave the house.

I headed to the Omega community and waited around the corner, wearing a long black coat and a cap pulled low over my face.

I thought I would go unnoticed, but everyone who walked past immediately bowed to me, probably because of my scent and my alpha presence.

I was a huge man. Sometimes I wished I wasn’t, because it made it so much harder to hide.

Finally, I watched Verity leave.

She was wearing a skin-colored trench coat, looking exhausted with her hands tucked into its pockets.

As she walked away, her body swayed gently, and the curls at the ends of her hair bounced with every step.

Just looking at her gave me a strange feeling.

It was always as though I was seeing something so beautiful for the very first time.

Even though I spent most of my days with Gigi now, and she was gorgeous, I still found myself comparing the two sometimes.

Maybe because I was afraid of the comparisons other people would make if they found out I was interested in Verity.

And I wasn’t sure how Gigi would feel about that.

Now that Verity was gone, I decided to break into her house.
