Chapter 108: 108-Embarrassed
Oliver:
I had woken up, and I’m not very proud of it.
The way things ended, I would have rather not woken up at all.
On second thought, no. I have to live. I have a beautiful life.
I have a lot to do. There’s no way I would ever wish to die.
The truth was, I was extremely annoyed when I woke up and Gigi told me I had been found beaten up with a trash bag over my head by none other than Verity.
It felt as though the Moon Goddess hadn’t just slapped me. She had punched me too.
First, I got beaten like a dog, and then the very person I always acted like a big shot around was the one who found me.
So, yeah, I was annoyed.
Now my sister’s boyfriend and his brothers were staring at me.
What did they expect me to say? That I couldn’t even land a single punch?
That I had begged this person to stop, only to be beaten to a pulp?
So I chose my words carefully.
Then I said the only thing that seemed appropriate for my situation, especially knowing those words would eventually reach Verity’s ears.
I don’t know why I cared. Maybe I didn’t. Maybe it was just my ego.
"Who was it?" my sister asked after hearing my confession.
"It was a big guy. Someone with crazy strength," I replied, not wanting them to think I had been beaten up by someone whose face I hadn’t even seen. "I put up a good fight, but every time I tried to hit him, he would just vanish. It was like he had powers I couldn’t even fight against."
As I said that, I watched the brothers’ expressions change.
Maybe not pale. Red. From anger. From competitiveness. I’m not sure.
Every time someone claimed another person was more powerful than the brothers, they made sure to prove that wasn’t the case.
After all, they were the most powerful people in the world at the moment.
So I could tell they were becoming unhinged because of what I had just said.
"What do you mean he had some kind of power?" Gigi asked, looking far more nervous than I had expected.
I mean, sure, she was worried about me, but why did this person’s abilities seem to shock her so much?
"It was almost like he was giving off an aura that stopped me from letting my wolf out. It was like he was blocking my wolf. It was magical," I explained, once again reminding myself that I had to choose my words carefully.
Otherwise, they would see me as too weak to be their royal beta.
I still wanted to remain Ragnar’s royal beta, and maybe, hopefully, I would become the fourth no, the fifth strongest werewolf in the world someday.
Since I wasn’t born an alpha and didn’t possess abilities like theirs, I wanted to earn that position through the power I did have, money, status, and influence instead of physical strength.
"Magic?" Gigi’s voice cracked. "So he has magic?"
She immediately got up from her seat, turned around, and buried herself in Ragnar’s chest, breaking down.
I stared at her in confusion. Why was she being so dramatic? Did she really love me that much?
"I don’t think he specifically targeted me," I mumbled, trying to reassure her so they wouldn’t go looking for this person. "I think he was just hiding in the shadows, looking for a victim. Since I’m very strong, he probably decided to attack me."
The last thing I needed was for them to find him.
The last time I saw this person, he wasn’t even as tall as I had described him.
He wasn’t anything like I was making him out to be.
If they found the real culprit, I would be shunned for lying.
Then again, didn’t I want to know who the hell had dared to attack me?
Maybe I should find out. Just me. Not everyone else.
"No, you idiot. He was specifically targeting you."
The moment Gigi said that, I forced myself to swallow.
"What do you mean?" I asked, turning to Jaguar, then Theodore, before looking back at Ragnar.
She sniffled, then slipped her hand into Ragnar’s coat and pulled out a crumpled piece of paper.
She tossed it onto the bed. Before I could unfold it or even read it, she began reading it aloud herself.
"This is for not protecting me," she read. "This is from my stalker."
The moment those words left her mouth, I was stunned.
Her stalker?
Wait. So I got beaten up because of her stalker?
But he wasn’t that strong. Or was he?
He was calculative, though. That much I could tell.
His punches had hurt like hell. It had felt as though his fists were made of steel.
Now that I was thinking more rationally, I knew this person was powerful. Definitely not magical.
I just stared at everyone.
"So he’s going to attack me again?" I asked, and my voice cracked. I hated that it did.
"No, not really. We won’t let that happen," Jaguar replied immediately.
Before all this, even being in the same room as the Alpha Kings would have been nothing more than a dream.
But thanks to my sister’s relationship with Ragnar, I could sit with them, share a drink with them, and do so much more alongside them.
All my friends were incredibly jealous of me.
"This is the same guy who attacked Verity before," Theodore commented, and my heart started to race.
"So this crazy psycho who’s obsessed with my sister is going around attacking everyone?" I asked.
My sister nodded before burying her face in Ragnar’s chest again as she cried.
I couldn’t really say much. All I wanted to do was slap my sister because why the fuck were we the ones suffering because of her?
Then again, of course she was so special that she had a stalker like this.
But what was my fault? I had tried to protect her from Justin. I had told her to leave him.
Now I could see the real concern on the brothers’ faces.
They had probably never imagined there could be someone more powerful than them, someone with the magical abilities I had stupidly claimed he possessed.
A person who could enter their own pack and go after the Alpha King’s girlfriend.
