Chapter 88: 88. Impossible
The Wolf spoke shocking not only Leroy but even Kora herself who couldn’t believe that her wolf could talk, and freely too!
The vampire took a few steps back to take a proper look at the wolf that was able to speak to him as a human would. The shock in him was in no way hidden from the eyes of others.
"I am here now, what did you want?" The wolf asked still walking towards him while he took more steps back. Knowing he was going to be backed into a corner, he stood his ground. His eyes turned red and bared his fangs and claws.
Sizing her up, launched at her using his vampire speed which she countered by using the vines of the nearby trees as obstacles and knocking him down.
He got up and looked in the direction of the witches and saw that Darren and Lazarus had led other Alphas to where they were and they were fighting and creating the potion at the same time which proved difficult for them. He gritted his teeth and growled at Kora, his face twisting in distaste. "You said you wanted to talk," Leroy said standing straight. "Shall we talk now?" He said, silencing and hiding his anger and irritation.
"I never said I wanted to talk, and even if I did, I changed my mind, I want you dead now," The voice that came out of the wolf was that of two people, one was playful like it just want to have fun and torture the soul out of the man slowly. While the other sounded like it couldn’t wait to put him through the worse.
The different voices he heard confused him once again. She stalked him while he still moved back and this time, to a clearer path to avoid the trees and plants that could easily be used against him.
Leroy looked back again and saw that more of the witches were falling and he had lost most of his vampire comrades. "It is ready, captain." The old witch said, gaining his attention. He smiled and looked at which who appeared beside him. She handed a vile to him which he took quickly from her.
Kora looked at the vile in his hand and her eyes flashed, lighting up the place and eliminating the darkness of the night. She growled at it and ran toward where Darren and Lazarus were and stood between them. A shield of water and fire surrounded them.
Her actions caught them off guard as they didn’t expect Kora to step in between them out of nowhere and put up a shield around them.
Though her actions looked strange to the others, it was not strange to the old witch who stood next to the captain. To her, it proved that the potion that she made was the right one and the wolf had recognized it but at the same time, she wondered how it could recognize something like that when it has not lived long enough to know what that was or what it does to her kind.
"It will affect you." The wolf spoke making the wolf and lycan by her sides narrow their eyes on her. Standing between the two of them, she was small but her presence still stood out.
Leroy opened the vile and took a sip from it, root-like veins appeared on his hands, neck, and face as if he was being possessed. His eyes got even redder than they were before, and his canines and claws also grew longer. A sickening smile appeared on his face and he threw what was of the potion in the vile which was more than three-quarters of it at the shield that Kora had raised.
An explosion was heard when the potion came in contact with the shield. It created a purple smoke that rose like a mushroom cloud before spreading around the area. The earth shook and her powers collided.
The explosion was enough to bring the fight between the others to a stop, separating both sides from each other and they turned to look at where their alphas were standing going up in flames. The shifters let out a pained howl thinking they were gone. But after some time had passed and they did not feel the snapping of the bond with their alphas, they were filled with hope that Kora was able to protect them and they turned to attack the vampires again.
The witches and the vampire Leroy who did not notice the abnormality in the situation in time started making their way toward the explosion with victorious smiles on their faces. They stopped a few steps away from them and waited for the smoke to disperse.
The older witch stood next to Leroy while the others stood in a circle around where Kora stood with the alphas. The smoke dispersed and the sight that welcomed them sent another shock to them all.
The shield That Kora created had grown tentacles that spread around them in waves, roots, and vines with thorns sprouting from the earth around them and the three people inside looked at them with slaughter intent. Darren and Lazarus released the full weight of their alpha aura that scared even the vampires and witches making them take a step back. While Kira’s eyes shone when brighter and her fur turned bright red making her look like a fireball.
The burst of aura from the two alphas and the power from Kora forced the other wolves to look in their direction.
"Impossible!" I claimed the witch with wide eyes at what she was seeing. "That shouldn’t be possible." She turned and looked at Leroy who is showing the right signs as he still has the potion in his system. The next second, she disappeared from the scene leaving Leroy all alone where they stood. He cursed under his breath wondering why the potion did not work on them while it did on him.
The rest of the witches also withdrew from the fight after they saw that their leader was gone. They could easily understand that something was wrong which she had figured out before them and they didn’t want to get caught in its backlash
