Chapter 163: 163. A moment of peace
At the Shadow Moon Pack,
The reversal portion was made and given to Mateo and Ezra who went into deep sleep after taking it. They all left the room so the room wouldn’t be too crowded and they wouldn’t be suffocated and have a proper rest.
Lucy or Lucinda will vine by now and then to check on them to make sure everything was going as predicted.
Darren and Lazarus left the pack house and give it to the mansion, it was getting and it was also possible that they will wake up by morning. They also needed rest and couldn’t wait all night for them to wake up. Upon reaching the mansion, the first thing he noticed was the scent of his mate that lingered in the air enveloping his senses and forcing the day’s stress to leave his body.
He did not expect her to be back so soon although he did not doubt her capability and now that they had marked each other, her strength and command were similar to his, but he was still surprised to see her back but glad nonetheless, because she was his stress reliever.
Lazarus also caught her scent and have a side glance at him and said, "I will be in my room." He then walked into the house and headed for the guest room.
Darren walked over to where Kora was and to his surprise, she was in the kitchen. That was the first time because she was not the type to go to the kitchen but right she had an apron in her with a spatula in her hand. He leaned against the door and watched her until she turned to face him.
She had picked up his scent and felt his presence a while ago but she did not turn and focused her attention on the chocolate pancakes. She smiled and turned back to the frying pan and he finally walked in and hugged her from behind, placing his chin on her head.
"Are these for me?" He asked with a smile. He had completely forgotten about the day’s unpleasant event as he breathed in the scent of his mate and the pancakes and relished the sparks from their bond.
Out of instinct, she leaned into his body, her back pressing against his chest. "Mhm, do you like it?" she asked.
He smiled and kissed her temple. "I love whatever you make." He said and grabbed a piece from the ones that were already kept aside for their dinner. He took a bite and she lightly hit his arm he feigned hurt and clutched his arm making her giggle. And he could not help the smile that appeared on his face as he heard her giggle.
This was the first time she had ever giggled since he knew her and it was pleasant to his ears. He wondered what happened that she decided to chase the servants away and cook by herself today but he did not comment on it. She seems happy and he did not want to ruin the moment.
Hearing her giggle made him realize just how busy he had been and had failed to have some quality alone time with her. Besides their nights together, they were rarely seen in the same space during the day. She was young and needed freedom, to feel loved and have all the attention in the world but the time had not been right and he realized that it would never be unless he made it possible.
Being the Alpha and Luna supreme had stolen the time that would have used to spend with each other and strengthen their bond and build love and trust for each other even though he knew that was not a problem in their case because they knew how they felt about each other and they trusted each other too. It was still not a bad idea to take her somewhere, where they would be alone in each other’s presence for a few days.
He picked another piece and she shot him a glare. "They are delicious," He said with an innocent look on his face.
She shook her head and turned to face her pancakes again and try to finish up before he finished eating them first. "Just don’t finish them all before they are ready."
"What would you like me to help with?" Darren asked already folding the sleeves of his shirt.
"You want to help?" She asked with a look of disbelief.
"If I told you I can cook, will you believe me?" He asked and raised an amused brow at her.
She nodded because it was natural that he should know how to cook having lived alone from childhood without an adult to help with that aspect of life. "Yes, I will."
"So what can I help with?" he asked again.
"Syrup." She said and pointed at the things arranged at the island counter, "I haven’t made it yet."
"Okay," he said with a nod and pecked a kiss on her lips before running off to make the syrup.
The atmosphere in the kitchen was warm and comfortable. The couple inside looked beautiful together, their laughs and smiles, and giggles were very soothing. All these were seen by Lazarus, who stood on the bottom step of the stairs when he came down to grab some water.
"Beautiful aren’t they, Alpha Lazarus?" Lazarus turned and saw Leo walking over to where he stood with his hands in his pockets.
"They are." He admitted. He was glad to see that even amidst the chaos and troubles around them, they could still be happy like that with each other. "We should leave them alone for a while."
"I will stay and eat the meal prepared by Luna," Logan’s voice came from behind them and they turned to look at him d he offered an innocent smile. "It smells really good." He defended himself.
"I don’t even know what to do with you," Leo said and dragged Logan out of there to a couch far away from the kitchen before he says something that will annoy their alpha because they all knew that he had heard them no matter how low their voices were. While Lazarus turned around and went back to his room. He didn’t want to disturb the peaceful and loving moment the couple was having because it was rare and very difficult to have such moments for all that was happening around them. He could not even remember when he had such a moment with his mate. To cook together like this.
Giving an east glance at the kitchen, he saw Darren tapping Kora’s nose with his finger and the syrup sticking on her nose before he finally climbs up unable to see them again.
Inside the kitchen, Kora pouted at Darren for rubbing chocolate syrup on her nose even after she had licked it off her. He ruffled her and packed her cheek. "You are adorable when you pout." He said. "Now, help me taste the syrup, I want to know if I did it right." He dipped his finger into the syrup and placed it on her lips.
She then opened her mouth and takes his finger in and closed her eyes. "It is not bad," she said and licked the rest of the finger.
"so I did I good job? I deserve a reward, don’t I?" He said with a mischievous smirk.
"What would you like for your reward?" Kora asked as she turned off the stove and untied her apron.
He walked over to her and circles his arms around her waist and kissed her deeply. "You," she said and she blushed lightly. "I want you as my reward."
"This is a kitchen," She said turning her face to the side. She was shy and Darren found her cute. She had never shown this aude of her before and today he gets to see and have it all for himself.
"You are saying if we love from the kitchen to anywhere else, I can have you?" He asked and nodded to himself. "Alright, he picked her up and threw her over just shoulder, and walked out of the kitchen while she struggled to break free. He chuckled at her attempts and stopped to put her down when they were in the living room. "What about here? Is this okay?"
Kora looked at him and then at Leo and Logan who were seated opposite them and watching them like they have become their favorite show.
"I don’t mind as long as you don’t mind having witnesses around." She said with a smirk.
Darren growled and turned to glare Leo and Logan who immediately averted their gaze to the TV screen as they had always been looking there the whole time. "I need to set the table, Darren," Kora said as she tried to stand up because he still had her pinned to the couch.
"No, you have done enough, let them take care of it," Darren said and those he was referring to didn’t need to be told that it was them as they quickly stood up and left for the kitchen.
As soon as they left, he sealed her lips in a passionate kiss. He kissed her as if was the first time tasting her.
