Chapter 144: 144. I will be fine
Everyone was awake, those who were visiting the pack, who were not seriously hurt were ready to leave and head. Back to their respective packs. They gathered in the Alpha’s mansion and waited for the supreme Alpha and Luna to come out and address them before they leave.
They had lost a few alphas and lunas last night, some of them just wanted to home and mourn the loss of their mates, or leader. To report what had happened to them while away.
It was true that had anticipated an attack, but they were not ready to lose their loved ones. No one would ever be ready to say goodbye to their loved ones.
The Alphas, Lunas and the Council Elders were all seated with sad expressions on their faces. The pain of losing people was still fresh in them and they could not bring themselves to act like it was not there.
Levi and Mateo had returned a few hours ago, they came to the Alpha’s home to make sure h and the Luna were okay. They walked up the stairs and opened the study but he was not there. With that they knew where he was and no one bothered to go and look for him anymore.
It wouldn’t be right to disturb his moment, especially after what happened last night but they hoped he would come down soon before the Alphas start to fuss. Mateo and Levi headed downstairs again.
Before they could reach where the packs were gathered, the door to the Alpha and Luna’s bedroom opened and they both stepped out and they turned back and climbed the stairs again. "Alpha, Luna." They said that at the same time.
"Hood morning," Kora said to them.
"Meet me in the study later, Mateo," Darren said and they started walking down the stairs together.
"Yes, Alpha," Mateo said. They all knew what he was going to call him for. They reach the bottom of the stairs and all those that were sitting or standing turned towards them upon feeling the Alpha’s presence.
["How many were lost?"] He asked as they walked.
["Two Alphas and a Luna were lost last night from the following packs, Black Moon pack and Shadow Eclipse lost their Alphas and Quick Fang pack lost its Luna, and a few more packs lost either a beta or gamma. We lost fifty warriors from the pack and thirty from Ghora"] Lebi reported and Darren sighed.
Their eyes trained on both Darren and Kora. Everything that happened last came as a shock to everyone. From the Alpha dying and waking up again to Luna’s wolf. Her colour and her abilities were something that they did not expect at all. It was all unexpected. There was also Dana but that was not what they were concerned about right now.
"ALPHA, LUNA." They said with their heads bowed before standing straight again.
Darren gave a silent nod of gratitude to them. She had stood and fought with him even though most of them did it because it was expected of them and they didn’t want to get on his bad side, but they had lost a few of their people and some lost Alphas and Lynas or betas and gamma and that was a huge sacrifice made. He stood in front of them all and began addressing them.
"I want to thank you all for standing and fighting with me when it was needed of you." He began. "My condolence to those who had lost their loved ones,"
"Thank you, Alpha." Their reply was chorused.
"Their lives can not e replaced but I hope that you accept my compensation." He said and everyone was quiet. Though it was true that lives can not be replaced, the key was willing to accept compensation. It was the least they could be done. "This will be handled by Gamma Levi and his mate, Emily."
Everyone turned to look at Levi and Emily. She looked flustered with all attention and suddenly was called out in front of so many alphas and Lunas.
"Everything will be taken care of according to each pack’s needs," Darren said gaining their attention back to himself. " Have a safe trip back home." He concluded knowing that they were all waiting for him to say that before they could leave.
Soon the crowd of visitors left the Shadow Moon to pack leaving behind the Elders who wanted to have a few words with the Luna and Alpha.
Kora walked over to Exra who had been quietly standing at the back of the crowd. His high and free spirit seems to be on hiatus and Kora did not like the way he was. "Are you okay?" She asked.
Ezra faked a smile and laughed awkwardly while scratching the back of his head. "I am fine," He said.
"Lier."
"I will be fine." He rephrased his words.
"You said I could always talk to you and tell you anything, right?" Kora asked and he nodded. "You can do tie same you know."
"I know but...."
"But you don’t want to tall about it?" Kora completed his words. "Do you mind walking with me?" Kora asked. She wanted to elpnlift his spirit after all it was because of her that he killed his mate.
"Sure." He agreed and they both headed out of the mansion and into the words at the back. The walks deeper to where it was colder and light white Fogg could be seen on the floor of the woods.
"I am sorry," Kora said with an apologetic look on her face. "I am sorry for what happened, Ezra."
"Come here." He said and pulled in for hug. "There is nothing for you to be sorry about about, little sister, it was not your fault." He said and hugged him back. "She made her choice, I just need some time, that’s all." She raised her he’s from his chest see his face, "I will be fine... soon." He said and patted her back. It felt like he was the one consoling her and not the other way around.
"I don’t like to see you being so down and moody, that is Raven’s thing." Kora said and Ezra chuckled.
"So you like it when he is like that?" Ezra asked and Kora nods. They sepreated from their embrace and Kora smiled when she saw hum smile.
"I am used to seeing him like that." She replied and he chuckled again. "And you you being all happy go lucky."
"Thank you," He said and ruffled her hair fondly. "I am glad to have you." He said and she smile and nodded.
"I know that, anyone would be." She said without shame.
