Chapter 140: 140. You need me more

Outside the Alpha mansion, Ezra stood and gaze upon the fading moon. When he heard that Darren was dead, he felt even more broken because he knew that it won’t be easy for her, especially since their bond had been strengthened and they had marked each other.

What he felt after seeing his supposed mate’s dead body was nothing compared to what Kora felt and he didn’t know what to say to her so he didn’t bother approaching she was not in the best mindset to listen to anyone or talk to anyone.

At that moment, it was only right that they followed her lead wordlessly, and that we what they all did. When Darrrn appears in the scene again, alive, though surprised, she was happy for their little sister. She wouldn’t end up mateless like him.

"I thought I’ll find you here," Lazarus’ voice came into his earshot. Ezra turned around and found him walking towards him.

"Alpha," Ezra said bowing his head. Lazarus knew he was doing all that because he didn’t want to talk and didn’t know how to express his emotions.

"I am sorry for what happened," Lazarus said placing his hand on Ezra’s shoulder.

"She ignored the mate bond," Said Ezra. He closed his and breathes deeply. "She attacked me and wanted to kill Kora."

Lazarus did need to hear more to know why he killed her after that last statement. With his hand around him, Lazarus hugged his friend who close bus eyes and allowed himself to be comforted. "So you think I will ever get a second chance?" Ezra asked and Lazarus did not know how to respond, he could hope his friend does because this could break him and he didn’t wants that to happen.

"I know you will," Lazarus replied. H had to get another chance. With his eyes strained up he stared at the faint glow of the moon and prayed to the goddess. She had to give him another chance.

"I second that," Raven said coming to join the two. "It is only right that you do." He patted Ezra’s shoulder.

"I hope so too." He said and the three men stood side by side with Ezra in the middle and looked at the sky with their hands in their pants pockets. "How is Dana?" He asked Lazarus because he had heard a bit of what was spoken to them by Cillia through the link that was accidentally left open by Dana in her struggle to save her mate.

"She doesn’t want to talk about it," Lazarus said with a sigh. "Not yet." Ezra and Raven nodded at him and they stood there in silence.

Mateo decided to keep himself busy with one thing or another trying to make sure his mind doesn’t go back to what happened hours ago when he had killed his intended mate. Hus beast was still in agony. Being all restless inside him trying to claw its way out.

Now that there were no more troublesome creatures he could take his pain on, it was best to keep him at bay and not let him lose it he might hurt innocent people.

Mateo could have just stayed back in his house and rested or slept but he chose to go with the warriors who had gone to get those who were in hiding because he couldn’t trust himself alone.

He met Levi who stood with Emily and Rosie who held a baby in her arms. A woman stood a few feet away from them whom he eevignusee to Emily’s mother, Scarlet.

He saw Emily hug Levi and planted a soft kiss on his jaw while smiling brightly. He felt a hole in his heart, knowing he won’t have the opportunity to experience something like that.

Feeling his presence, he turned ariundbandbsmuled at his brother but the smile died the moment he noticed something was off with him. "You should go with them," He said to Emily and nodded towards the pack warriors. "I have something eale that needs my attention." with a smile and peck on her lips, he nodded at Rosie and gave a small bow to Scarlett before turning and walking over to Mateo. "Care for a run?" He asked.

"Now is not a good time, Levi," Mateo said shrugging off Levi’s hand that was on his shoulder. He was not in the mood to talk.

"I can see that, and that’s why I am asking you for a run," Levi said and stepped away from Mateo. He shifted and waited for his brother who looked more reluctant to shift than ever and that made the questions in him grow in numbers. ["Brother,"] Matei sighed and shifted.

They both ran into the woods behind the safe house. The trees stood impossibly towering up above them the earth and grass were moist from dew drops and felt cold under their paws.

They shifted back to their human skin after running for quite a distance. Leaning against a tree with thick bark, Levi waited for Mateo to do the same but he seem to be struggling with his wolf to take back control.

After many attempts, Mateo was in his human skin again and they both stood naked facing each other with no one saying a thing. "What’s wrong brother?" Levi asked breaking the cold silence.

"There is nothing wrong," Mateo said and he looked away from his brother when he knew could read him like an open book.

"Lier," Levi said. He stepped away from the tree he was leaning on and walked to stand beside him. "There are two ways we can do this," He said Mateo looked at him. "You can either tell me on your own or punch it out of you. Which is it gonna be?"

Mateo ran his fingers through his hair and let out a tired breath. "Fine, I’ll tell you." He said and Levi gave him a nod. Marie agreed to talk rather than having a series of thrown at him first not because he could not a few punches from his little brother but because his wolf might take advantage of that attack Levi and forsake their blood relationship just to relieve himself of the pain of losing his mate. "I found my mate, and I killed her," he said.

Let’s who was about to smile at the first half of the sentence, had his happiness killed by the following words. "Why?" He asked with a serious look on his face. What happened to his brother out there that made him kill his mate?

"She was a rogue." Mateo began and earned a frown from Levi. That shouldn’t warrant killing one’s mate. "She didn’t want me and went after Luna." He explained. "I had no choice."

Levi’s heart ached for him. He was rejected and he had to choose between just loyalty to his Alpha and Luna and his mate who didn’t even want him. It was no wonder her killed her but now, he was suffering because of it. "Brother..."

"I am fine, Levi, I just need some time alone." He said and turned to face his brother. "You can go back now..."

"I am not leaving," Levi said, cutting him off this time.

"Alpha might need someone," Mateo said and Levi glared at him for trying to get rid of him.

"Alpha is with Luna," Levi said.

"Then what about your mate? She would need you." Mateo pressed on.

"She is with her parents, I am sure she will be fine," Levi said and stared at his brother. There was a swirling storm of emotions inside his ways which he was suppressing. "You need me more now than anyone else."
