Chapter 137: 137. He died
Kora cried and he could hear her through the mind link while Gaia whimpered and snuggled closer to him as if asking him to draw strength from her. She could hear his breathing and heartbeat slowing down and getting shallower. "I love you" he whispered.
Levi came at that moment and he nearly stumbled on his footing at the sight of his alpha. He had never seen him look so vulnerable as he did now. He could not understand what was with veins and their color. Knowing that something was not right because he could see Kora trying to heal him but nothing seem to work. ["Get Lucy and Lucinfa here right now."] she yelled through the link for everyone to hear.
["Beta Mateo had already sent for them, Gamma,"] A warrior nearby answered but still received a fierce glare from Levi.
As if on cue, Lucy and Lucunfa materialized right at that moment and we’re met with Levi’s glare. Lucinda was about to report when she saw the state in which the alpha was. His skin and gone pale and cold and his heartbeat was only a faint sound that could he hear once in a while and he had stopped breathing. Kora looked so broken that she looked nothing like the girl whom they knew her to be.
"What happens to him?" Lucy asked. Kora shifts back and she helped her with some clothes. She and Lucinda stretched their hands towards the alpha trying to heal as Kira did the same.
"I don’t know," Kora replied, tears stained her face when she saw her mate’s chest no longer moving. She just got a mate now, was she going to lose him so soon? At such a young age. ["Open your eyes, Darren,"] She tried to reach him with the mind link but there was the response.
"There is nothing we can do, Luna," Lucy said in a solemn tone. She moved her hands keeping them back to her sides, and Lucinda did the same. They saw as the color drained from the alpha and his heartbeat finally stopped. Levi came to stand behind her knowing the amount of pain she was going through. He placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.
A lone tear streaked down Kora’s cheek while she closed her eyes. She cradled his head in her arms feeling the coldness of his once warm body. When she felt the bond snap, that was all that she needs to know that he was gone and no longer with her. More tears fell but she refused to let go of him. She was in pain, feeling her heart cave in painfully that it was unbearable.
Once he died, every shifter who was connected to him felt the bond snap and they needed no extra detail to know that he was gone. Howls of pain and agony followed the snapping of the pact bond with the Alpha supreme as they all mourned his death.
The turn of events shocked even the vampires and the witches because they did not expect that to happen. They didn’t like him but they did not expect him to die either. But the sound of the shifters’ howls was pleasing to their ears. The death of the supreme Alpha was a good thing for them. It meant no leader for the shifters. It would be easier to kill single Alphas and take their territories.
When Mateo felt the bond snap, he fell to his knees and shot his eyes close. The night could not get any worse than this. First, it was his mate whom he killed with his own hands and now it is his alpha who is gone. If I had known this would happen then he would have never ended the last mind link received from him but kept it going as long as possible. Je joined the howls of the other wolves and the sound encompassed the whole territory and even beyond.
Kora opened her eyes and they were of bright gold like the burning coal in a furnace. The blue stripes on the tips of her hair turned red. The ground around her started turning hot and hotter until steam could be seen coming out from the ground. Those near her including, Levi, Lucy, and Lucinda quickly jumped away from there.
The change did not stop there and continued until the earth around her turned red with the color fire. Soon, they saw Lava appear in a circle around her and started to spread and increase itself covering the grounds quickly. Leaving Kora and Darren on a little island in the middle of it. She created a bed of wood and vines and placed him on it before standing up.
She fell forward and landed on all fours. Everyone stares at her with shock when they saw her. Her fur was completely red matching completed by her red eyes. She looked like a fireball with legs as she stood. Her eyes scanned the place around her and she took in all the faces before taking the first step.
When her paw touched the surface of the lava, it turned solid and it continued like that she stepped on solid ground without the lava but it continued to spread driving many away.
As she moved, the shifters created a path for her while at the same time moving along with her, both to follow her lead and also to avoid the lava that was still in hot pursuit.
When the enemy saw the state she was they tried to run but were stopped by the roots that came out of the ground right in time before they could leave and held them still and in place to be killed by the wolves around them. While some were burnt on the spot before they could lift a muscle to leave the place.
She stopped moving when she came face to face once again with the lord of vampires trying to claw himself Lose from the vines that held him. This time, she did not hold back and launched an attack on him turning the place where he stood into lava he leaped in the air and landed on safer ground. Wigjoutwasting time, the shifter attacked him too. Transferring their anger into their attacks.
Gaia got hold of him with a whip made of for and pulled him back to her. She was more than determined to kill him without caring about anything.
