Chapter 136: 136. I killed her
The world around them. They seemed to fade into nothingness as they stood next to their respective mates who bled without breathing. If anyone had told them that they would end up killing their mayes with their hands they would have probably laughed it off. Or maybe punched you in the gut for spouting such things when they knew how important a mate was to a shifter.
’Mate.’ The word sounded so distant to the two. Their beast howled at the sight of their mates lying lifeless on the ground and the knowledge that they were directly responsible for their deaths weighed heavily on them very suffocatingly.
Gaia saw Ezra and Amteo standing over them and remembered her vision her heart ached to see them like that but there was nothing that she could do to ease the pain that they felt. One was a brother figure while the other was her beta she felt his pain too and wished she could help them.
Darren felt his beta’s pain and wondered what was happening because the pain was not a result of a physical injury because it had many emotions mixed into one. ["Mateo?"]
["I am okay, Alpha."] He said and cut the link on his Alpha for the first time. He didn’t want to talk. All he wanted now was to do something to help him forget the pain even if it was just for a moment.
He looked up and saw where Kora was and went to join her tend off Dmitri and the witch whom Kora had pinned down to the ground with vines and roots protruding from the ground. The first that Mateo was to kill her before moving forward and attacking Dmiri.
On the other side, Exra still needed a little migraine to come to terms with what he had just done. He felt a giant hole form in his heart as he continued to share with her and wondered what it was that made her ignore the mate bond. Would he ever get a second chance? He could not place his hope in that knowing how rare it was to get a second chance mate.
"Are you alright?" Revan asked. He appeared behind Ezra and looked at the dead woman.
"I killed her." He said without lifting his gaze from her. Raven didn’t need much explanation to know what was going on. He didn’t know what to say to him because he finally understood what his friend was going through at the moment.
"I am sorry." Wase was all that he could say. He didn’t know what it felt like to lose a mate not to talk about killing your mate yourself and he wished to never feel it. Just imagining it was already hard enough. Why don’t you go to rest? We will take care of the rest." He said but Ezra shook his head.
"I need to do something or I might go crazy." He said and looked at where Mateo was and followed his lead. Kill as many rogues and vampires as possible and if a witch comes in the way, kill also, that was what was ringing in his head as he left Raven’s side.
Raven watched his friend walk away and he did not know what to do so he linked Lazarus instead. ["Ezra found his mate."] He said it was good until he continued. [" He killed her, she was a rogue."]
Lazarus was silent as he thought about what Kora had told him. Whoever they were that she had seen were Ezra and Mateo’s, mates. ["Keep an eye on him, don’t let be alone,"] Lazarus said and cut the link. He knew that Ezra’s mind would be a mess right now so he tried to reach through the link but he was blocked. He sighed and focused back on what was happening on his side.
With the help of Ezra and Mateo who looked like. They were ready to tear to shreds anything that came their way, Gaia found her way to her mate. He was in a terrible state but refused to back down. The root line veins had reached his face stretching and linking to each other all around his face leaving everyone who saw him wondering what was happening to the alpha.
He was in his human form having a loose pair of pants around his waist, he could not go full lycan so all he could do was use his claws. Blood dripped from the cuts on his body and mixed with the blood of the vampires, rogues, or Abominations in his hand or those that had splattered on him. The wounds had healed even after so long.
Even the witches did not know what was happening to him as it had never happened to anyone before. Whoever could not withstand the poison from the Abominations would die at once and not what was happening to him. He was alive but barely and the root-like veins threw them off completely. They were even afraid to go near him.
[’What happened to you"] Kora asked standing next to him. The warriors some a circle around them keeping all the attacks away from them. Some are in their human skins while others are in their beast skins.
["I don’t know."] He replied. He bent on his knees and held them by wrapping his hands around her neck. His body was hot and he was shaking.
He hugged her tighter as if holding on to his lifeline. He buried his nose in her shoulder and sniffed her scent. ["Let me try healing you,"] she said and nodded against her neck. ["It is not working."] Kora’s worried voice came echoing in his head. She tried even harder but nothing worked and panic started to get to her.
["I will be fine,"] He assured her but she was ready to hold on to any baseless assurance. She was losing him as he was telling her that he would be fine. How exactly does that work?
["You will be."] She said and poured more of her energy into him but nothing still changed. Everything remained and was even getting worse.
