Chapter 106: 106. Dark Future
Morning at Blackstorm Pack.
The visitors of the pack woke up early and started to prepare to leave. Everyone except Kora who slept a little longer. She woke up because of a mind link from Emily who had sought her and could not find her among the others.
’Where are you, Kora we are getting ready to leave.’ Emily said through the link.
’I will be there soon.’ Kora said before ending the link with her friend. She opens her eyes and finds Darren awake and staring at her face.
"Good morning, love." He said and pecked a kiss on her lips. "Did you sleep well?" He asked picking her up from the bed.
"Good morning. " Kora replied and she made her head before saying, "Yes I slept well." Kora soon realised that she was without a fabric on her and she looked away from him. Wriggling out of his hands, she pulled the bed sheet to cover herself. "I need a bath," she said heading to the bathroom.
Darren was already dressed and before he came back to join her on the bed and waited for her to wake up. He knew that everyone was already awake but he could not bring himself to disturb her peaceful sleep and let her be.
After waiting for a few minutes, Kora stepped with new clothes her hair dripping water on the ground. She has a towel on her hand that she used to dry her hair. "I could not find the hair dryer," she said when she saw him and look at her wet hair.
"It’s over there," Darren said and pointed at the table that sat in a corner. She looked where he pointed her and walked over to the table and found the hair dryer on top of it.
She sat down facing the mirror and picked up the dryer to dry her hair. Darren came to stand behind her and took the hair dryer from her. "Let me help you." He said and she released her hold on it. He turns it on and started to dry her hair.
Kora closed her eyes, she did not know what to say to describe how she felt. The moment was blissful even though there was a blood bath just a day ago and Kora was happy about it. She knew that the days ahead of them would not be as relaxing and peaceful as the days now. What she saw in her vision of how her kind had always been hunted and used was a clear picture of what her future would be like. She would rather have the world soaked in blood than let them use and kill her as they pleased.
She was just worried for her mate now whom she would be dragging into her mess. She opened her eyes and looked at him through the mirror many emotions flashed through her eyes.
"What is it?" Darren asked. He had felt her eyes on him and had also caught the unsaid emotions in her eyes whwjnsheooked at him and he is not like that something was troubling her mind.
Kora shook her head, "Nothing." she said but he did not take his eyes off her. "I was just thinking about the future." She finally said knowing he won’t let it go unless she gives him an answer.
"The future isn’t here yet," Darren said. He turned off the hair dryer, placed it back on the table, and made her look at him. "Think about the now, not the later, or future. I am here with you and I will still be with you even in that future that you are worried about."
"The future is dark and bleak," Kora said and Darren’s mind went blank for a moment before snapping back to the present.
"We will go through it together," Darren said, he made stand up and held her hands in his. "What it is that the future has for us, we will go through it together," Darren remembered the other part of his curse and he felt his heart squeeze.
"You don’t understand," Kora said trying to make him understand where she was coming from.
"There is something that you should know about me. Something that only a few know about and those that know, they don’t know it in full detail." Darren said and led her out of the room.
Kora liked at him but no words were said. "I will tell you when we get to our home." He said to her she gave him a nod."Promise me you won’t leave and reject me after knowing it." Kora opened her mouth to speak and say the words ’I won’t’ when he stopped her. "Don’t do that now, I don’t want you regretting it later."
They reached outside where everyone was waiting for them. Kora’s eyes rested on Dana and the little life that she held in her hands. She walked over to her. "Can I hold him? I didn’t get the chance to do that yesterday."
Dana looked at the baby that would not have come into the world had it not been for Kora. She smiled and placed the baby in her hands. "Here you go," Dana said.
"He is so small," Kora said looking at the weightless baby in her arms. He was so light that she thought she was not holding a living person. "He is strong." She said knowing that he was not carried to full term and had to be born earlier.
If it was a human baby, he would have been in the neonatal intensive care unit for special treatment but here he was at home looking healthy but his eyes were still closed. "Congratulations," Kora said looking at Dana who had a beautiful alike her face.
"Thank you," Dana said looking into Kora’s eyes. "We both wouldn’t have made it if it weren’t for you," Dana said and Kora nodded without being flustered about it.
"Have thought of a name?" Kora asked Dana, she looked at where Lazarus was and then back at Kora with a smile.
"Aziel," Dana said and Kora looked up at her. "His name is Aziel."
