Chapter 2412: Chapter 2412: Will the Baby Be Born Tonight?
"He’s with you now, right?" Jasmine Yale finally spoke.
But she didn’t hear a response; on the other end, the call was disconnected.
Jasmine Yale silently put down the phone, her gaze still fixed on the lake before her, with indescribable depth in her eyes.
For a long time.
She took out the SIM card and threw it into the water.
Out of sight, out of mind.
She couldn’t endure this iceberg-like coldness, nor his silence; this was neither the love nor the marriage she wanted.
Her long eyelashes fluttered as she turned away from the park.
The sunlight was still nice, and a faint scent wafted through the air, perhaps from blooming plum blossoms.
The new year was approaching, and she would be happier than him.
The Christmas spirit hadn’t faded yet, and streets were already preparing for New Year’s Day.
The streets were bustling with colorful lights and cheerful laughter.
She walked aimlessly through the streets, wandering with little brightness in her eyes, only boundless dimness remaining.
Here and there, traces of white snow could still be seen on the streets, though scarce, like decorations.
That night.
Late at night.
Jasmine Yale’s stomach began to ache unexpectedly, in waves.
"Butler Santana..." she called out in panic.
During this time, Butler Santana had been sleeping lightly for fear she might not hear Jasmine Yale calling her.
As soon as Jasmine called twice, she heard from the next room and quickly came over, draping a coat over herself.
She turned on the bedroom light.
Butler Santana saw Jasmine Yale’s face pale, with tiny beads of sweat dripping from her forehead.
"Miss Yale, is your stomach hurting? Don’t move, I’ll take you to the hospital right away!"
Though Butler Santana had never had children, she had experience.
Jasmine Yale nodded, lacking the strength to speak further, and silently closed her eyes.
The feeling of pain numbs people.
She was experiencing it.
The pain grew until she couldn’t feel anything, leaving only a faint consciousness in her mind.
The baby in her stomach moved, kicking her forcefully.
Jasmine Yale placed her hands on her stomach, furrowing her brows in pain, but the corners of her mouth curved upward.
The journey to the hospital was filled with memories of dreams she once had, dreams of vibrant flowers and gently stirring warm breezes.
It was the early hours, and everything was quiet.
Butler Santana took good care of Jasmine Yale, covering her with a warm blanket, keeping her from catching a cold.
Upon arriving at the hospital, the doctor performed routine checks.
After half an hour, the female doctor in the white coat took off her mask and addressed Butler Santana: "It’s just contractions. Stay in the hospital for a few days; the baby could be born at any time."
"Will the baby be born tonight?" Butler Santana asked worriedly.
"It’s hard to say; it could happen any day now. The due date is close, and considering the mother’s weak constitution, early birth is normal."
"That’s good, thank you."
"You should prepare some items for the mother and baby; it’s best that a family member is present every day for the next few days."
"Alright, alright."
The doctor explained some things to Butler Santana, who noted them down carefully.
Jasmine Yale fell into a hazy sleep from the pain, clutching the bedsheet tightly, her brow furrowed, her small face pale as paper.
She heard the doctor and Butler Santana talking, but she had no strength to respond.
It was truly late at night, with absolute silence, not a sound to be heard.
She only knew that Butler Santana later helped her change clothes, seemingly saying something, but she didn’t hear it.
Butler Santana wiped her sweat, staying by her side without leaving.
