Chapter 205: Ch-205: Invasion (2)
"Freeze."
As soon as the words fell, the entire temperature around the area dropped, and the attacks moving toward the family, along with all the undead, froze into ice sculptures. The entire ground was covered by a layer of blue frost.
"What?!" Both the wife and husband were petrified by the scene before them.
"Giant Earth Hammer!"
A voice roared across the battlefield, and a giant warhammer made of stone slammed onto the ice sculptures, which shattered into countless pieces instantly.
"Olivia, Andre, look! There seem to be civilians trapped inside!" Rachel shouted as she pointed toward the family.
"Awakeners!" the father’s eyes lit up with joy upon seeing them, and he wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. Even though he had shown a brave attitude in front of his wife and little girl, inwardly he had been completely terrified and was planning to act as bait to draw the undead away so that it would buy enough time for reinforcements to arrive and rescue his wife and daughter. But it seemed God had not abandoned him.
"Dear... quickly get up, rescue has arrived," the man said with relief.
Just as the little girl, who had been trembling in fear a few moments ago, along with the woman, was about to rise—
The little girl, still receiving her mother’s affection and encouragement, looked at the bottle of water her father had placed beside them on top of a desk in her parents’ bedroom. Suddenly, it began to shake slightly, the water rippling on its surface.
The girl stared at it as the water continued trembling rhythmically.
"Mama..." the girl called out immediately.
"What is it?" the mother asked, worried, seeing her daughter begin to tremble, her eyes fixed on the bottle.
Suddenly...
Rumble
"Ahhhh!" the little girl screamed in fear as the building started to shake.
"Wait, something’s not right." Olivia frowned as she felt the mana in the surrounding area begin to rise dramatically.
"I’m scared, Mommy..." the girl murmured as she looked outside. The woman could not help but look worried.
"Everything will be okay, my love..." she said, stroking the girl’s hair as she held her in her arms.
The sound of a helicopter emerged above them in the next moment. Everyone looked up, watching the aircraft move toward the center of the city. At first, they assumed it was an army helicopter searching for the undead.
Just as the helicopter moved forward to scout—
Boom!
The helicopter suddenly lost control, crashed into the ground, and exploded instantly.
"This... another portal?" Andre’s brows furrowed when he saw a portal opening in the middle of the city. He suddenly had a bad feeling about the situation.
The portal kept growing until it surpassed every other portal in size and was second only to the humongous portal above Big Ben.
"This is bad..." Olivia said with a nervous expression as cold sweat dripped from her forehead.
"Damn, you three stay hidden. We will go check it out," Olivia said in a serious voice, looking at the family. Andre and Rachel nodded with solemn expressions.
"No, wait! Please don’t leave us alone!" the man’s expression changed, and seeing the little girl’s frightened expression, Olivia’s cold face softened a bit. She tossed an armor and a bow toward the man.
"I can’t stay, but these should come in handy if you find yourselves in danger."
The man saw them vanish the next moment. Even though he was reluctant, he did not say anything and took the armor and bow like a last lifeline.
Bang
The next moment, the dungeon broke, and an even larger and stronger army of undead poured out from it. The man could see this from the window of his house.
"Nooo!" Seeing this, the man turned pale and hurriedly instructed his wife and daughter.
"Stay silent. Don’t make any noise," he said urgently as he closed the windows, leaving only a small gap to see outside.
His wife and daughter felt fear overwhelm them while the man continued watching the undead pour out, and the next moment, explosions rang out.
------
Rumble
A bolt of lightning fell onto the ground and formed the shape of Victor as he landed in a secluded place near the outskirts of the city.
Woosh
"Looks like we are a bit late. It seems the fight has already started," Amber said as she landed on the ground, the ice wings on her back dissipating.
From the distance, they could see and hear explosions in the city. They could also see that the city had almost been reduced to rubble, with only a few buildings still standing and civilians hiding inside while Awakeners protected them.
They walked forward and saw the entire city barricaded, with the armies of the UK and its allies stationed there, preventing any non-Awakeners from entering. There were hundreds of military vehicles and helicopters hovering in the sky, and everyone looked nervous as they stared into the distance.
The soldiers noticed Victor and Amber approaching and immediately raised their guns, pointing them toward the pair.
"Halt! Identify yourselves!" one of the soldiers shouted in a nervous voice.
Victor was not surprised by their vigilance. To the soldiers, even with firearms, they were no different from children facing adults in front of an Awakener. Moreover, Victor knew that during these times many criminals who had gained powers and become Awakeners would seize the opportunity to kill soldiers and other figures of authority for their own benefit. They only cared about themselves and did not care how many innocents died. In fact, such incidents had already occurred, which was the reason for the soldiers’ wariness.
"Here, these are our IDs." Victor calmly handed over the identification cards issued by the Association.
Taking the IDs, they looked at Victor and Amber suspiciously. Only after verifying them did their vigilance ease a little, and they looked at the pair respectfully.
"Sir Victor, Miss Amber," the soldier saluted, and Victor was not surprised, as Awakeners were considered superiors to most ordinary soldiers.
"Can you tell me the situation inside?" Victor asked, and their faces turned grim.
"It’s not good. We have lost contact with many of the Awakeners who went inside, and they are presumed dead. The city is currently being overwhelmed by the undead. Since this city is in the most critical situation, many top-ranked Awakeners arrived a few hours ago, and only then did the other Awakeners get some breathing room," the soldier replied.
Just as Victor was about to say something, the soldiers’ communicators started ringing.
The soldier hurriedly answered the call, but before he could say anything, a panicked voice came from the other end.
"Ahhhhh... Quickly evacuate! A portal suddenly appeared, and thousands of undead are pouring out from it... click."
The soldier’s face turned pale, but before he could react, the call abruptly disconnected. He exclaimed, "Heavens, another portal! Sir, you should... huh?"
The soldier raised his head, and his expression froze when he saw Victor and Amber had disappeared. He turned to his colleague and asked, "Where did they go?"
"They went in as soon as the call disconnected," the soldier said with a pale face as he pointed toward the city.
----
"Ah, damn!"
"No! Why did a dungeon appear here all of a sudden?!"
"Damn, their numbers are too high! We will die!"
"Hurry, run away! We can’t fight them! The city is lost!"
The Awakeners, who had gotten some breathing room thanks to the arrival of the top-ranked Awakeners, now found themselves in an even worse situation due to the sudden appearance of the dungeon. Endless undead were pouring out of it, killing the Awakeners effortlessly. They could not even resist, as the undead were much stronger than them. Only a few with Warlock Bloodlines could fight them, but they too were struggling against the endless horde of undead.
Thud
"Damn..." One of the Awakeners who was trying to run away tripped and fell to the ground. When he looked back, his face turned pale as he saw that not only he, but even the others who had been running away, were surrounded by the undead.
All the undead, with grotesque smiles on their faces, raised their hands as all sorts of attacks began to form in their palms.
"Is this the end?" the Awakener said with a bitter smile. He had come here after receiving the Association’s summons. He had participated not because of his noble heart or anything like that, but because the benefits and money offered were too tempting to resist. He could earn as much here as he would in two lifetimes.
Just as all the Awakeners were about to die—
Swoosh
A blue fireball shot out from the distance and struck the undead surrounding them, reducing the entire group to ashes.
"Who?" The Awakeners looked around but could not find anyone until one of them shouted,
"Look above!"
Everyone whipped their heads toward the sky and saw an extremely handsome man and a beautiful woman hovering in the air.
