Chapter 204: Ch-204: Invasion (1)

Woosh

Victor and Amber immediately returned to Earth in their mansion, and the first thing they saw was the soldiers looking at their smartphones with nervous expressions.

"Lord Victor, you are back," one of the soldiers snapped out of his daze when he felt the portal’s activation and saw Victor and Amber emerge.

"The mansion has not been attacked, has it?" Amber asked immediately.

"No, Lady Amber. Currently, there have been no sightings of undead in this country, and if they arrive, they will most likely be dealt with by the army and Awakeners before they reach here," the soldier replied.

"How’s the situation?" Victor asked. He could not help but worry about the fact that if a Tier 4 Undead entered while he was away, the United Kingdom would have fallen, as there was no one on Earth who could defeat it except him. Even though he might not care about strangers or could remain indifferent to slaughter, he could not allow an entire country to be destroyed, as that would affect many of his future plans. Not to mention, he still needed to establish his own guild.

"You should see it for yourself, Lord Victor," one of the soldiers said as he handed him a tablet, which was currently showing live news footage from one of the battlefields.

The video was displaying live footage of the battlefield. The entire area had been reduced to rubble, and explosions rang out as Awakeners unleashed all sorts of attacks to kill the undead. There were also gruesome scenes where Awakeners were ripped in half by undead warriors and then raised as undead to join their army. The sight of this sent chills running down the spines of viewers at home.

A female news reporter, with sweat trickling down her forehead and a frightened expression, spoke into the camera.

[ Currently, we are live in Manchester, and the situation is extremely dire as thousands of civilians have died at the hands of the undead. The death toll was rising at an astronomical rate until our brave Awakeners arrived and started engaging the undead.

At first, the situation seemed to be under control, but later even more powerful undead arrived on the battlefield and began to overpower the Awakeners. The army tried to assist the Awakeners, but even the most powerful modern weapons have been rendered useless against the undead. The worst thing about these monsters, called undead, is that they can also turn the dead they kill into undead, swelling their army. Many of our brave soldiers and Awakeners have been turned into undead and joined their ranks, attacking their former human comrades.

The officials have not made any formal statements regarding how so many dungeons have appeared, but we only know that the dungeons are a danger to planet Earth and need to be contained immediately.

We have received insider information that the large portal above Big Ben has broken, and a terrifying entity has emerged from it. It appears to be the leader of the undead army, but no Awakeners have managed to get close to the area, as it is heavily guarded by the undead.

The Awakeners Association has requested all of the top-ranked Awakeners to come and assist the Association.

The Association has also requested the mysterious top player, Faceless, to help them, but there has been no response.

If Mr. Faceless is watching this, the people need your help. Even if you are selfish, don’t let millions die ]

"Hmm, the Awakeners have been calling him Faceless." Victor blinked. He could not be blamed, as he had turned off the in-game messaging function because there were millions of messages sent daily by players who wanted to leech off him.

"Oh, by the way, Lord Victor, during your absence all the Awakeners were called to the front lines, and someone came to deliver the message to us. They told us to inform you," one of the soldiers said.

"Oh, someone from the Awakeners Association came," Victor muttered with a raised eyebrow, then nodded. "Amber and I will go. You guard the place."

Victor said as he left the mansion with Amber.

"Partial Transformation – Flaming Claws."

Valerie’s upper body transformed as fur appeared on her face, and her hands transformed into large claws.

Bang

With a swing of her hand, she immediately bisected two undead that tried to sneak attack her.

"Damn, these undead are disgusting. They are endless," Valerie complained as she killed an Awakener of the Valemont Family who had turned into an undead.

"Devouring Vines."

Thick vines emerged from the ground and rushed toward several heavily injured Awakeners who were on the verge of death or could no longer fight.

"Ahhhhh!"

"What are these vines?!"

"Damn, were these created by the undead?!"

Valerie looked at Ruby, who calmly retracted her bloodline power.

"What?" Ruby asked innocently as she looked at Valerie, who was staring at her.

"Why are you killing the Awakeners and soldiers instead of killing the undead? You know the helicopters above have filmed this," Valerie said with a smirk as she pointed at the cameras aimed at them.

"Of course, I know... who do you think hired them, and do you think they would air this?" Ruby said with a smirk, and Valerie’s smirk froze as she clicked her tongue. Valerie knew Ruby was right, as even though they were live reporters, they knew which family they belonged to and would never air something that would tarnish the image of a top family.

As heirs and members of the top families, there was no reason for them to participate in the fight and risk their lives; even the Association could not force them. The reason they came was to gain prestige and publicity. They could use it to showcase their power and attract more talented people to join their guilds.

"And the reason I did this is because I need to heal and recover my stamina. The undead... I can’t absorb anything from them, and the soldiers I killed were already going to die anyway," Ruby said with a shrug.

Another Place

Manchester was one of the most important cities in the UK, and at that moment, it was filled with destruction, while people hid in various places—in their homes or in makeshift shelters—as the undead roamed and clashed with Awakeners throughout the city over the past few hours.

In a corner of the city, a mother and daughter hid amid the devastated scenery.

"Do you think Daddy is okay? He still hasn’t come back..." the six-year-old girl could not help but ask her mother.

"Your father is okay. He will come back soon..." the woman said, trying to calm her daughter.

They were hiding inside an apartment on the third floor. There was no one else in the building. This was the family’s own apartment, where they had stayed for the last few hours.

And it was at that moment that a man unlocked the door and quickly entered the place with a bag of food from the abandoned market.

The woman immediately stood up and looked at her husband with relief. "You finally arrived," she said, holding their six-year-old daughter in her arms.

"Daddy!" the girl said, relieved to see her father enter their home safely.

"I managed to get into the market, but the place was more devastated than yesterday... The food will run out soon if more people keep taking things... And the city is completely empty now. Everyone is hiding. Most of the undead and Awakeners are far away, and I could see and hear explosions," he said with some concern.

"Anyway... I brought some food. We’ll have to wait for rescue until this food runs out. Otherwise, we’ll need to leave here and look for another shelter..." the man murmured, never taking his eyes off the devastated city through the open bedroom window.

This family was one of those who ended up trapped. They had been there for more than three days, while the giant had been devastating the entire city since it arrived.

The woman took the package, looking for something for her daughter and herself to eat, while the man opened a bottle of water and began drinking as he looked toward the window. He continued to watch the city with caution.

"I wonder if we’ll get out of here... This feels like hell," he murmured, placing the transparent water bottle beside him as he sighed and said with regret, "Damn, I should have played the game. If I hadn’t looked down on it, I would have been an Awakener and had the ability to protect you two."

"Don’t worry, honey. It’s not your fault. Who would have thought this would happen?" the woman said, trying to comfort her husband.

"When we get out, I am definitely playing the game. No, not a game... this isn’t a game anymore," the man said.

"I will too," the woman said.

"Me too, me too! I will also protect Mommy and Daddy," the six-year-old girl said as she clenched her small fist.

"NO..." the man suddenly murmured, looking toward the building’s window as he saw dozens of undead heading in their direction and launching an attack.

"Get down!" the man shouted hurriedly as the woman’s and girl’s faces turned pale in fear.

But suddenly, a cold voice rang out.

"Freeze."
