Chapter 203: Ch-203: Return to Earth

Victor took more than half of his army and marched toward the Brightflame Duchy, leaving the other half behind to guard the Hall Duchy in case of an enemy attack.

"This place looks far too desolate," Victor mumbled as he stepped into the Brightflame Duchy, which was littered with corpses and rubble. The buildings and castles seemed to have been destroyed by a stampede of monsters.

"It’s not surprising. Many nobles have fallen due to the sudden evolution of the world. If you had not come to our aid, the Hall Duchy would have been history as well," Hilbert said with a sigh as he looked at the scene before him with a complicated expression.

Amanda and Bianca, on the other hand, remained completely silent, their gazes fixed on the bloodstained Mechs. Their minds were occupied by what they had witnessed just a few minutes ago.

"No wonder... I felt a sense of danger from the Mechs, and Duke Hilbert chose to submit to him. With these Mechs, he will become one of the strongest and is almost guaranteed to establish a Kingdom," Amanda said as she looked at her trusted guard and friend.

"You are right, Miss. It seems your decision to ally with him was the correct one. It would be even better if you considered what I said before," Bianca said as she looked at Amanda with a serious expression.

While they were marching through the Brightflame Duchy, they had witnessed the combat power of the Mechs firsthand and had been left speechless. They doubted that even the most talented squadron in their army could accomplish even half of what a single Mech had achieved.

Victor then stopped at the center of the Brightflame Duchy, where the Duke’s castle had once stood, and a new notification popped up on his retina.

[Do you wish to connect the City of Dawn with Silver City? Yes / No]

"Yes."

As soon as those words left Victor’s mouth, strong winds began to blow, and...

Whoosh!

A swirling red portal appeared right where Victor was standing.

[City of Dawn has been connected with Silver City.]

"Let’s go." Victor looked back at the group and gestured with a smile.

The others looked at one another as they watched Victor enter the portal. After a moment of hesitation, they followed closely behind.

---

"Holy..." Hilbert’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets when he emerged from the portal and stepped into Silver City.

"This..." If Amanda had thought that seeing the Mechs meant she could no longer be surprised, she was mistaken. She was once again left speechless by the towering futuristic high-tech buildings.

Amber and Rina were also a little surprised, as the place had changed dramatically in just a few days. Previously, when they had seen the buildings, they had only been half completed, but now the futuristic skyscrapers had all been finished, and they could only stare at them in awe.

Bianca walked forward and placed her hand on one of the buildings. Her body instantly stiffened.

"Hey, what happened?" Amanda asked, noticing her reaction.

"Miss... these buildings are all Epic-rank," Bianca looked at Amanda and said in a stiff voice.

"What?!" Amanda and Hilbert both exclaimed. They hurriedly placed their hands on the building, and information appeared on their retinas.

---

Multi-Functional Civilian Buildings

Description: A civilian skyscraper with a built-in defensive laser system capable of dealing area-of-effect or single-target damage. It has built-in sensors that automatically detect enemies and fire laser beams.

Rank: Epic

---

"Civilian buildings? More like war fortresses," Hilbert blurted out as his lips twitched while reading the description.

Amanda stiffly turned her head toward Victor, who merely smiled at them. A chill ran down her spine as she wondered what else he was capable of creating.

"Hmm?" Victor raised an eyebrow when he saw Edward signaling him with his hands to come over. There was a look of panic on his face. Amber also noticed this and frowned.

Amber stepped forward, looked at the guests, and pointed at Sophie.

"Guests, Sophie will act as your guide. If you have any questions, you can ask her."

With that, she followed Victor and left the place.

"What was that about?" Hilbert asked with a raised eyebrow, while Rina narrowed her eyes as she watched the pair leave.

A few moments later...

"What happened, Edward? Why did you call me over like this?" Victor asked with a frown.

"Lord Victor, something major has happened in the other world—Earth," Edward said anxiously, and Victor immediately felt his heart skip a beat.

"What happened?" he quickly asked.

"Lord Victor, a huge portal has appeared in the real world, and there has been an invasion by the undead. The place called the United Kingdom has suffered heavy casualties."

"What?!" Victor exclaimed as his eyes widened in disbelief while processing Edward’s words. Even Amber looked shocked upon hearing this.

"What about the soldiers and our place?" Amber asked.

Victor’s eyebrows twitched as he thought, ’You are worried about the house in a situation like this...’

Amber seemed to understand what Victor was thinking and replied nonchalantly, "Of course I would think about the mansion. You paid for it, and the soldiers belong to us. Why should I care about people dying who have no relationship with us?"

’As expected of the former cold-hearted bitch... but this isn’t necessarily a bad trait,’ Victor thought.

"For now, the country where we are is safe. It seems the invasion is only in the UK for now, but the Awakeners Association summoned all available Awakeners a few hours ago."

"I see," Victor said. He paused for a moment before continuing, "Amber and I will go back. You stay here and entertain the guests."

Edward did not say anything and simply nodded obediently.

Real World

A few hours ago...

A few hundred Awakeners were stationed near the large portal above Big Ben.

One of the Awakeners could not help but nervously say, "Hey, do you think the portal is going to break?"

"Shut up. Don’t jinx us. Didn’t Headmaster Lance say that the portal, which was about to break, stabilized? We are here to observe, so do your job and stop jinxing it," another Awakener angrily retorted.

"But what if it breaks... I mean, didn’t more portals appear all around England, and some undead creatures started attacking?" the Awakener retorted.

Hearing this, all the nearby Awakeners felt their faces turn dark.

Indeed, Headmaster Lance, who had seen cracks appear on the portal, felt a wave of panic, but he was relieved when the portal did not break and the cracks even healed. However, his relief was short-lived when smaller portals appeared and undead creatures started emerging and slaughtering cities. He had no choice but to leave this place and deal with the crisis. He thought this portal above Big Ben was a distraction from the other attacks, even though he still left a few hundred Awakeners to guard this place in case something went wrong.

Suddenly, one of the Awakeners who was looking at the portal noticed something, and his expression changed.

"L-Look! The portal... cracks are appearing!!!"

The Awakener who noticed it first immediately shouted to alert the others. However, they only slowly turned toward him with unimpressed expressions, clearly not believing a single word he said.

"I swear on my soul! Just look!" the guard frowned, hurriedly pointing toward the portal.

Yet the others still remained unconvinced. Shaking their heads, they began lecturing him instead.

"I know you’re scared, but Headmaster already told us this portal is a distraction."

"Fuck! I am not joking! Just look! There are cracks on the portal! If I am joking, you can take my head!" the Awakener shouted angrily.

Hearing this, the others finally used their mana to scan the portal, and their expressions changed immediately.

At first glance, the portal itself appeared perfectly intact. However, the moment they inspected it more closely, their expressions changed when they noticed cracks the size of fingernails.

"I-It’s true! There are cracks on the portal!" The Awakeners immediately began to panic.

"Fuck! What should we do?!"

"There’s only one thing to do! Contact headquarters!"

Two of the guards swiftly retrieved their phones and contacted their respective superiors.

"We have an emergency! Cracks have started appearing on the portal. I repeat, cracks have started appearing!"

"Damn, why now? We are already occupied by the undead. Later, this must be a false alarm. Like the last time, it will repair itself."

"So what should we do?" the Awakener asked.

"Nothing. Just keep doing your job and watch over it."

"I understand..."

"No, wait! The portal is about to break!"

"What?"

The person at the other end of the call turned pale after hearing this, but before he could say anything, the call disconnected.

Bang!

"No..." the Awakeners screamed in terror when they saw the portal collapse and an elegant female undead appear.

The Awakeners, feeling the terrifying aura, felt their legs turn to jelly as they looked at the undead in fear.

"Ah, is this portal connected to some other world? I read that there are other worlds in the starry sky... looks like it’s true. And the mana is so impure and low here," the undead said and frowned. "The residents feel too weak. They can only serve as slaves or workers. No matter, I will make this world a part of my empire."

The undead looked at the trembling Awakeners and said with a gentle smile, "Can you all become slaves?"

The next moment, screams rang out.

"Ah, no!"

"Please, ahhh!"
