Chapter 78: Chapter 78: The Heartless Capitalist Won’t Even Pay This Small Amount?
Jim Jenson couldn’t believe it when he got the news.
The prize was right in his grasp, and it just flew away? Unacceptable!
He was so angry he swept the fruit bowl off the table. "Tell me who it was! Who dares to snatch something from my grasp? Are they tired of living?!"
His assistant was completely stunned. He had tried calling Jared Thorne again, but the man wouldn’t even pick up anymore.
He was used to having the upper hand and had never been treated with such disrespect. It wasn’t just Jim Jenson who couldn’t stomach it; his assistant couldn’t either.
"I’ll go find out right away! Don’t be angry, Young Master Jenson. This project will definitely come back to us. Just think, if you just put the word out that no one is to touch this project, who would dare? All those film and television companies in the industry have to give you face!"
The Jenson Family had a reputation for being tyrants in the film industry. For years, they would stop at nothing to acquire any project they set their sights on.
And if they couldn’t get it, they would make sure to ruin its reputation, preferring to destroy it rather than let anyone else have it in peace.
Thanks to this aggressive style, many small and medium-sized production companies did their best to avoid the Jenson Family.
It wasn’t that they couldn’t afford to offend them, but that it was pointless to invite so much trouble.
Jim Jenson thought about it and agreed. Some company executive was probably duped by Jared Thorne, completely unaware that he had his eye on the project.
"Hurry up and find out who it is. I’m going to call them myself and ask what the hell they think they’re doing!"
Before the assistant could reply, Jim Jenson’s phone, which was on the sofa, suddenly rang. He picked it up and saw it was an unknown number.
"Hello, who’s this?" Jim Jenson answered casually.
"I’m the investor you’re looking for."
The voice on the phone sounded somewhat familiar and far too young. ’This should be easy,’ he thought.
"I suggest you don’t get involved in this mess. Be careful you don’t end up with nothing." Jim Jenson paused. "However, if you pull your investment and apologize right now, I’ll let it slide."
The person on the other end let out a soft chuckle.
Jim Jenson shot to his feet. He recognized that voice. It was fucking Jasper Sterling!
"Jasper Sterling, what are you doing here?" He suddenly felt a stinging pain on his face again.
"It seems Young Master Jenson remembers me, so I won’t bother with introductions. I’m calling to tell you that I’m diving into this ’mess,’ and not only will I not come up empty-handed, I’m going to make a fortune. As for you, Young Master Jenson, you should be careful not to overreach. One day, someone might just chop off that hand of yours, and you won’t even know it happened."
Jim Jenson’s heart sank. He hadn’t been very optimistic about the project himself, but since his friends said it could make money, and now Jasper Sterling was saying the same thing...
Who was Jasper Sterling? He was the investment prodigy who hadn’t had a single failure since taking charge of the Sterling Group at seventeen!
He was regretting it so much now. He shouldn’t have toyed with Jared Thorne. If he’d known, he would have sent someone to pick him up at the airport.
He was powerless against Jasper Sterling. After all, when he’d come home after getting beaten up that day, his mother had dragged him to complain to the old man.
Not only had the old man shown no sympathy, he had turned around and slapped him again.
After hanging up, Jim Jenson was so furious that he slapped his assistant, who had just walked in, twice across the face. "Useless!"
The assistant’s head snapped to the side from the blows. A flash of venomous hatred crossed his eyes, but he quickly said, "Young Master, I found out that Jane Lancaster might have had a hand in this too."
Jim Jenson slowly sat down on the sofa.
He couldn’t afford to offend Jasper Sterling, but Jane Lancaster was a different story.
With this new grudge piled on top of old ones, there was no way he could just let this go!

When Jane Lancaster received the news that the contract had been signed, a great weight was finally lifted from her shoulders.
She picked up the documents on her desk, got up, and knocked on Julian Lancaster’s door.
"Big Brother, I think Mama Knight’s recent performance has been outstanding. I plan to give her a big bonus to motivate everyone."
Jane Lancaster had thought it through carefully. If she directly gave her a large sum of money or an expensive gift, Mama Knight would definitely refuse it.
Despite having a sharp-looking face, Mama Knight was an exceptionally honest person. She wouldn’t even dare take things the family was throwing away.
At her previous employer’s home, a gold necklace went missing. The lady of the house insisted that Mama Knight had sticky fingers and even called the police.
Mama Knight was detained for seven days. When she was released, she thought the truth had come to light, but it turned out her family had paid a large sum of money for the mistress to drop the case.
Later, she confronted the family’s middle-school-aged son, who smugly told her that he had sold the necklace, but since the money was all gone, she had no proof.
Furious, Mama Knight dragged him to confront the lady of the house, but the woman, without hearing her out, slapped her twice and demanded, "Are you trying to ruin my son?"
Mama Knight’s heart went cold. The mistress clearly knew everything but still pinned the crime of theft on her.
After that incident, her reputation was completely ruined. No one would hire a thief as a nanny.
After leaving that family, Mama Knight walked the streets alone, crying for a long, long time in the cold winter wind. A little girl with a backpack, passing by for the third time, finally couldn’t help but sigh and brought her home.
That little girl was Jane Lancaster.
Perhaps being locked up for those seven days had left a deep psychological scar. Ever since then, Mama Knight had been exceptionally careful, never taking so much as a single needle from anyone.
Whenever she was entrusted with shopping, the accounts were always accurate down to the last cent.
Because she was so upright, she never asked for special treatment.
It was a rare occasion for Jane Lancaster to try and get her a reward, and she was sure Julian Lancaster would have no objections.
But Julian Lancaster simply set the documents aside. "Jay, I’m planning to sort out the household staff soon. It’s not a good time for you to suggest rewarding a single person. It could easily make her a target for everyone else."
Jane: "???"
’This heartless capitalist won’t even part with such a small amount of money?!’
Julian Lancaster sighed and took out another file from under his desk.
"Do you remember Felicia Everett? This is the evidence I had someone dig up of her taking kickbacks. In the last two years alone, she’s embezzled more than three hundred thousand."
Jane Lancaster wasn’t particularly interested in the matter, but if Julian Lancaster was unhappy, then she was happy.
’So Mrs. Everett was that bold? I thought she only dared to fool Alvin Lancaster. I didn’t expect she’d dare to mess with the accounts too.’
’Now this is going to be a good show. Julian Lancaster is in charge of all the other household expenses. This is like stealing money right out of his pocket!’
"Big Brother, where it’s possible to forgive, one should forgive. Mrs. Everett only took some kickbacks. Doesn’t the fact that her daughter is sick deserve some understanding?"
She suddenly covered her mouth in feigned shock. "Big Brother, you’re not going to call the police and have Mrs. Everett sent to jail over such a small amount of money, are you?"
Outside the door, Alvin Lancaster’s heart tightened when he heard this. He didn’t think twice before pushing the door open. "No, Big Brother, you can’t do that!"
A matter like this could be treated as major or minor. Most people wouldn’t be so ruthless; they would just demand the embezzled money be returned.
But Alvin Lancaster wasn’t so sure. After all, his big brother had been ruthless enough to scheme against and fire Special Assistant Cole, a trusted subordinate who had been with him for many years.
Julian Lancaster frowned. "Nonsense. Get out!"
But Alvin Lancaster looked at him stubbornly. "Big Brother, Mrs. Everett has already been sent to grow vegetables in the back hills. Isn’t that enough? If it’s not, I’ll pay you back the money, okay?"
Julian Lancaster: "You think this is about money?"
"Isn’t it?" He had heard it himself—his brother wasn’t even willing to give Mama Knight a bonus.
’Fight, fight, come on, fight!’
’Is the great drama of brotherly strife about to begin this soon?’
