Chapter 77: Chapter 77: We Can Still Bargain Down the Price

"This is Mr. Thorne. I’m Jasper Sterling."

Jasper Sterling and Jane Lancaster exchanged a glance, and he made a split-second decision. "Gavin, take Mr. Thorne to the car first."

Jane Lancaster breathed a sigh of relief.

God knows she had just broken out in a cold sweat!

’The male lead’s luck is just insane. I almost thought I wouldn’t be able to snatch this deal away from him.’

’Good job, Jasper Sterling. You’re so quick on your feet. No wonder you’re so rich.’

Caleb Lowell’s heart sank. ’Jasper Sterling is here too? What’s this about snatching a deal?’ He felt like he had missed something and couldn’t help but turn to look behind him.

’Oh no!’

Jane Lancaster hurried over to Caleb Lowell and grabbed his arm. "Zion, what are you doing here?"

She desperately shot glances at Jasper Sterling. ’Get out of here! When you get a bargain, you should lie low. Don’t you know how to quietly make a fortune?’

Jasper Sterling couldn’t help but chuckle. ’Is she really this worried about me?’

Caleb Lowell couldn’t resist and turned to look back again.

Just then, a confused Jared Thorne also turned to look in their direction.

In a panic, Jane Lancaster threw her arms around Caleb Lowell. "Zion, I’m so happy."

Caleb Lowell froze. His eyes met Julian Lancaster’s, and he felt particularly uncomfortable. He reminded her in a low voice, "Jay, we’re in public. Mind your behavior."

No matter how happy she was, she shouldn’t be making a scene like this regardless of the occasion.

Just as the quick-witted Gavin pulled Jared Thorne away, Jane Lancaster immediately let go of him.

"Oh, sorry. I’ll be more careful in the future," she said casually.

Caleb Lowell’s lips tightened into a thin line. He felt she’d corrected her behavior too quickly. ’I did tell her to stop, but couldn’t she at least act a little pouty about it?’

Three steps away, Jasper Sterling almost scoffed.

’Caleb Lowell really has some nerve. Jane Lancaster hugged him of her own accord, and he actually scolded her for it.’

’If it were me, I’d be over the moon. I’d pick her up, spin her around, and announce to the whole world what an honor it is.’

But thankfully, the other guy was enough of a killjoy. Otherwise, he couldn’t guarantee he wouldn’t lose his composure in a fit of rage and march over to snatch her away.

"Jane, you must be tired from the flight." He immediately stepped forward and pushed the bouquet he was holding into Jane Lancaster’s hands.

Only then did Caleb Lowell notice him. His expression changed abruptly, and the sight of Jane Lancaster holding that bouquet was particularly jarring.

He waited for Jane Lancaster to politely refuse the flowers and then take the bouquet from his own hands.

Jane Lancaster looked down and fiddled with the flowers in her arms. The color combination was pleasant, and she liked it a lot. "Thank you, Jasper Sterling."

’In any case, he’s so obedient. He deserves some encouragement.’

Jasper Sterling smiled without a word. Of course, he would listen to her. He treated her every word as gospel.

That was why he never once asked her why, not from beginning to end. He hadn’t even hesitated before rushing to the airport with his people.

Caleb Lowell: "..."

’She actually just accepted them? Then what about the flowers in my hands?’

"Jay, you should ride home with me," Caleb Lowell said, his voice a little stiff.

’I’m her fiancé. It only makes sense for her to be with me. That way, we can spend more time together.’

Julian Lancaster suddenly said, "That’s not necessary. Jay is riding with me. There’s enough room in the family car."

Fearing things would get awkward, Alvin Lancaster quickly said, "Caleb, I’ll ride with you. It’s been a while since we caught up."

He smiled and teased, "Are those flowers for Jay?"

He turned to call Jane Lancaster over to take them, but seeing her pull Jasper Sterling aside to talk, he felt a little guilty. "I’ll hold the flowers for you..."

Caleb Lowell didn’t agree, still clutching the bouquet.

Jane Lancaster pulled Jasper Sterling aside and quickly gave him a few instructions. In short: get the contract signed tonight. The sooner, the better!

And when he reaped the main profits, he had to remember to let others have a taste. Mama Knight was to invest a million as well.

But Mama Knight didn’t have the money right now, and neither did she. She told him to figure it out.

Jasper Sterling: "Is this another opportunity you’ve divined, Jane? In that case, I’ll just give you half the shares."

Jane Lancaster’s heart leaped, but after a moment’s thought, she forced herself to refuse. "Forget it, that’s not necessary."

’If I get involved, there’s no telling what kind of trouble it might stir up. It’s better to just let Mama Knight make a quiet fortune with Jasper Sterling.’

’It’s more realistic for me to keep my eye on my thirty billion.’

Alvin Lancaster’s thoughts stirred. ’My sister’s inner voice mentioned last time that she would arrange for Mama Knight to take the money and leave as soon as possible. Is she already paving the way for that?’

But if his sister was working so hard to help Mama Knight avoid her fate, why hadn’t she mentioned a single word about their eldest brother’s cancer?

Jane Lancaster said goodbye to Jasper Sterling and started walking, wondering how she was going to get enough money from her eldest brother for Mama Knight.

"Jay, were you just talking about work with Jasper Sterling?" Caleb Lowell couldn’t hold back any longer. "If you’re short on money, I can invest for you."

’We’re a team. Why look elsewhere and cooperate with others?’

Alarm bells instantly went off in Jane Lancaster’s head.

’He wants to invest too? Are you kidding me? You’re the one I’m trying to guard against!’

"No, thanks. By the way, are these flowers for me? They’re beautiful!" Jane Lancaster changed the subject stiffly.

But Caleb Lowell felt an emptiness in his heart. She had a secret, but she wasn’t willing to share it with him.

He wasn’t used to this distance and guardedness.

On the other side of the city, Jim Jenson swirled the wine in his glass, an expression of feigned profundity on his face.

His assistant walked in. "Young Master, the director has arrived in Stratton."

Jim Jenson was bored and looking for something to do. "Has he landed? Then call him over. We can have some fun."

He had only recently returned to the country and was eager to achieve something to prove himself to the old man back home.

When this project first fell into his lap, he didn’t think much of it. It was his friends who were optimistic and suggested he invest.

The other party had a funding gap of one hundred million, but he had no intention of investing that much. He figured he could haggle the price down and get a larger stake.

He had done his research. The film project was started by the director and a few friends. The previous investor had bailed, and now the director was selling his car and house to cover the crew’s expenses.

Clearly, the director was more desperate than he was.

If he was going to do this, he was going for a winner-takes-all approach. ’Someone wants to eat out of the same pot as me? Dream on.’

But he’d kept them waiting long enough. He decided to mercifully grant them an opportunity.

「 」

Jared Thorne saw the incoming call and hesitated for a moment before answering.

"Our boss is willing to see you. I’m sending you an address. Get in a taxi and come over right away." A cold voice came from the other end as soon as he put the phone to his ear.

Jared Thorne was taken aback. "Huh?"

"What ’huh’? As long as you can keep our boss happy, there might still be a chance for you."

"But... I don’t need the investment anymore."

The other end of the line went silent for a moment, then came a sneer. "Well, congratulations then. Don’t come begging us later."

A moment later, the film’s producer called in a panic. "Sinclair, if Young Master Jenson summons you, you go! What are you being so stubborn for at a time like this? If we don’t secure an investment, our production will go bankrupt, and you’ll be finished!"

Jared Thorne: "But I did secure an investment! Quinn, we have money now!"

He gazed at the freshly signed contract, sinking into a state of delayed euphoria.

Jasper Sterling smiled and extended his hand. "A pleasure doing business with you."
